Seriously, guys, converting it to an addon was the worst idea ever. It worked perfectly bloody fine as a gamemode.
And it works perfectly bloody fine as an addon. (:
Except perhaps there might possibly be a moment when we DON'T want to play spacebuild? It makes a lot more work for people to have to remove the folder from addons to just play regular sandbox. Having SB3 as an addon makes the assumption that we want to play spacebuild every time we play gmod.
I thought you still had to activate the gamemode when you want to play spacebuild though...
I thought you still had to activate the gamemode when you want to play spacebuild though...
You now have to activate addon using CAF menu.

And I still have to put the option into the addon so you can actually disable the autostart...
people, just go back to Spacebuild 2. that will solve all issues with it autostarting (unless you make it your default gamemode)
people, just go back to Spacebuild 2. that will solve all issues with it autostarting (unless you make it your default gamemode)
No.
people, just go back to Spacebuild 2. that will solve all issues with it autostarting (unless you make it your default gamemode)
If you forget to set gamemode you have to restart server, currently you can always enable or disable withouth need to restart.
I have to admit, that is a pretty good point
T_T i thought this mod died long ago. There's so few players, everyone's going Dark RP now.
Everyone's going Dark RP now.
Because they don't know what's good and what's not.
Okay, first of all, don't take this personally, but I think this desperately needs to be said, or perhaps said again. The resource system in Spacebuild 3 is THE most supertarded clusterfrack I have ever seen. Now, allow me to qualify that statement: Part of the fun of spacebuild for me anyway is having the ability to survive in hostile environments. Spacebuild/Spacebuild 2 achieved this by requiring generic resources such as air, coolant and energy to survive in space and on other planets. Spacebuild 3 builds on this with its multi-gas depleteable atmosphere system. Now, while this is a great idea, SB3 trips over its own air tank and falls flat on its face: There are a ridiculous amount of resources available, and most are either unused or are redundant. Take nitrogen for example, what the hell is nitrogen used for, except to be drained off into space to make room for oxygen that you've shipped in from another planet. And steam? Why would I bother heating up water to make steam to run the turbine to generate electricity when I have a hydro generator, or even better: solar panels. And then If I'm on a planet with nitrogen and hydrogen, how do I get oxygen? BY SHIPPING IT IN FROM A PLANET WITH OXYGEN, or better yet, get the gas systems 2 addon, which has even more resources and tools to convert to oxygen! This especially should NOT be neccessary. Now, I'm not going to make all this criticism without having a suggestion for improvement. That would be rude. First Rule: Don't have resources for the sake of having resources. It over-complicates things, which reduces the fun value. One of the biggest criticisms of SB3 that I've seen and experienced is its over-complication. ALL RESOURCES MUST HAVE A PURPOSE! Second Rule: All resources must be able to be generated in one form or another ANYWHERE the player goes, in ANY atmosphere. This does not mean you should be able to use an air compressor in space. It may take a few steps to get these resources, but the self-sufficiency of an outpost/station/spaceship is a must. Now, this is all easily corrected: Resources Needed To Survive: Oxygen - To breathe Energy - For heat Water - For coolant Now, how do we get these resources? Oxygen Generation: Air Compressor Water Splitter -Creates oxygen and hydrogen Hydrogen -> Oxygen converter Nitrogen -> Oxygen converter Hydrogen Generation: Hydrogen Compressor -For atmospheres Water Splitter -makes Hydrogen/oxygen as seen above Hydrogen Ramscoop -generates hydrogen when moving forward, can be used anywhere, even in space Nitrogen Generation: Nitrogen Compressor -really only used to convert nitrogen to oxygen Water Generation: Water Pump -used in water HydroCreator -combines oxygen and hydrogen to create water Energy Generation: Solar Panels -can be used anywhere there is light, low power wind turbine -can be used in any atmosphere, not in space, medium power fusion reactor -needs hydrogen, heavy water, and water, tons of power Heavy Water: Heavy Water Electrolyzer -makes heavy water from water and energy See? that wasn't so hard. Now with a few easy steps we can make any resource we need to survive, even in the dead of space. For example In space, we use the solar panel to collect energy. we then use the ramscoops to collect hydrogen, which we can convert to oxygen. We can then use some of the hydrogen and oxygen to make water using the hydrocreator. Now, lets say we suddenly need a lot of power. We can take the water, make heavy water, and then be able to use the reactor! This example is not overly complicated, all resources are used (even nitrogen, who's purpose is really to convert to oxygen) and most importantly it is FUN TO PLAY.

You choose my friend, simplicity or complexity.
Erm... That post made no sense. All you actually changed was hydrogen - oxygen and nitrogen - oxygen, essentially making them all the same gasses...
Erm... That post made no sense. All you actually changed was hydrogen - oxygen and nitrogen - oxygen, essentially making them all the same gasses...
hmm Scientifically how would nitrogen turn into oxygen o.O but then again... you have to decide between all out realism vs. fun/playability. We have to do a vote on that, some people are hardcore realism and bitch at the slightest thing of fiction.
SB3 I guess is more "in-depth" by adding more and more and more. You choose my friend, simplicity or complexity.
Sure, there's more and more, but to what end? I suppose you can throw in useless resources and clunky distribution methods and call it "in-depth," but does that really make it fun? More and more != progress, and the existing system seems to be a bit half-baked, to be completely honest. "Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." And as far as realism, seriously? When humans strap wings to cargo containers and start exploring the universe with them, then we can have that argument about gmod. My reasoning behind the whole "hydrogen->oxygen" etc. is to put better use to existing resources and make it possible to be self sufficient in space without the Gas Systems 2 addon. There still would be a level of depth to the whole thing, as you need to be able to build a system to process these resources.
one thing that is really funny about SB3, and how you can make a planet run out of resources (eventually), is that you can turn the spawn planet into a barren waste land if you get enough compressors going. What's more fun than playing a game where anyone who spawns gets to slowly die unless they somehow get saved? I agree with Bynari that it needs to be made more simple. I'm not saying go back to SB2 where you need 3 resources and nothing else, but I am saying we should drop some of the more useless resources (steam...)

Everything should have a purpose.
I'm all for heaps of resources as long as they all have a useful purpose in one way or another.
Well some of the future updates will be to try and make all of the resources have a purpose. But atm I've been busy with other things so a lot of updates I was planning/working on have been put on hold for now... Should have a bit more time again soon though... Ans as a note there was a thread you could have posted in about Entity balancing and all that stuff already here: http://www.snakesvx.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=357 , Field_Medic already made a doc file with lots of notes in it...
SpaceBuild 3 owns! =)

You choose my friend, simplicity or complexity.
Oh yes-yes, but it's not that simple... It's more and more complex, but it's more and more laggy with double rate of speed :) You had to have a resource cache, a generator, a coolant generator and some air transferer thing, and that was done, but in LS3 and SB3 you have to make so complex systems, and you didn't do anything else than the LS but it lags like a mech war... Maybe two systems but it's too laggy, you have to have a nuclear-power-plant-like-supercomputer to make it run normally... Ah and I have a question: I have the SBEP and my missile launchers doesn't work, althoght I have Gcombat 8.1 and latest SBEP/LS2/RD2/SB2 svn...
Ah and I have a question: I have the SBEP and my missile launchers doesn't work, althoght I have Gcombat 8.1 and latest SBEP/LS2/RD2/SB2 svn...
Why would you ask that question in here? Anyway, I've started modifying SB3 to implement the suggestions I listed above. If the SB3 team wants a copy of this to check out, they can have it.
I asked, but nobody answered and I saw that some1 else came here with this question in the past...
Wait what? Gcombat 8.1? Do you mean Gcombat 08? That's what you should have.
When I play Spacebuild, I can't make things invisible:S Anyone else got that problem?
Yes I mean 08 but in the offcial thread the link goes to gmod-gcombat 8.1 so I think they made a repair patch...
Finished my revamp of the resource system. This contains the suggestions I posted above with some minor improvements Changes: -Steam has been eliminated -Entities using steam have been recongured/eliminated to reflect this change -Hydrogen/Nitrogen Ramscoops can be used in space -The HydrOx Recombiner has been added to convert hydrogen to oxygen -The NitrOx Recombiner has been added to convert nitrogen to oxygen -The fusion reactor now requires Hydrogen, Liquid Nitrogen and Heavy Water to operate. The reactor will shut down without Hydrogen and Heavy Water. No changes have been made to coolant dependency (i.e. ship go boom) -Unused/unnecessary SENTs have been removed I take no credit for the code, just the changes I made. Honestly guys, I'm not trying to be a jackass about all this. I just want a better spacebuild. Seriously, just try it out and see how it plays BEFORE rating me dumb?
