How do i make my own svn server?
Now THAT I don't know.
There is no such thing as a svn server you just upload your svn addons to it
By SVN server I think he means "how do you get your own SVN link"... so that other people can use an SVN link to download whatever he uploads.
Bump for usefulness. Again.
Ahhh good one, I've noticed the stupid amounts of people recently wondering how to use SVN. Hopefully they will read this. It should really be stickied.
that has been said about every single one of these SVNs thread. none of them have been stickied

Which sucks so much, this one is probably one of the better ones.

This is one of the more useful threads on here, better than having about 50 "OMAWH! GUYS Svun! how use do it?" isn't it? Now get out.
yes but people have seen it and its becoming anoying so just let it die a death
I have no problem when uploading into addons.

Then your computer kicks ass. Most computers don't. I noticed a HUGE speed increase on my laptop when I did it. I haven't tried on my stationary though.

Bumping!
Whenever I try to install anything with svn,it fails. I don't know why.
It would be nice If SVN told you how much left you had to download. But apart from that if it works,(which it will seeing as I followed the (very good) tutorial by the letter) I am a convert!
Yet again, bump for sheer usefulness.
Nice guide for GUI SVN, but try it more then once and you will see that it is quite time consuming and you need to click a lot of times to have all your addons updated! I have been searching for SVN command line client and I found SlikSVN. Now I have one BAT file which DOES IT ALL by one doubleclick! I think TortoiseSVN does not have command line functionality, or am I wrong? I may write guide to make it automatically with SlikSVN, because it is very handy especially with often updated addons like SBMP.

Highlight all your SVN folders, and click Update on one of them. It will update one at a time still, but that's good as it saves your internet connection.
ALSO, Youtube video! :D
very informative but all the mods I have are on glua.net, one cant pass up a good old regularly updated direct download.

SBMP is updated almost every day, and since...
right click SBMP -> update -> gets you only the files you are missing -> Export
... is way faster than...
internet -> write www.glua.net -> enter -> find SBMP on the site -> download the entire damn addon AGAIN (probably takes about half an hour for SBMP!) -> delete your old version -> cut/paste the new version
... I prefer SVN.
do you people think it is better to export svn folders to garry's mod addons (after svn update) or have them directly there? Exported folders are much smaller, but I am not sure if it has any impact on GMod loading time or something. Anyway I saw it in some guide to do it...

If you had read the tutorial before posting, you would have known what I think about that.
Bumpiddy bump
So I see it IS really worth to get some command line svn client like I did and do all this by one double click. I will have to make some little tutorial for it.
Well the bonuses of command line ones are you can make it update and export all in one sweet little function. Problem is the command line version I tried wouldn't download, it worked, but just wouldn't do anything...
what command line version you tried? I think TortoiseSVN does not have any cmd line version. Try SlikSVN. It works for me. But the strange thing is that when you do "svn checkout address" and the addon has a trunk folder, then you have to do svn update in that subfolder "trunk" and not in the original where you made svn checkout :-\ While you make svn checkout and then update in the same folder for addons without a "trunk" folder. This is a little confusing though...
also it seems there is no export command but I also found a way how to do it with xcopy ;)
