There have been 2 updates since then. If it was a problem caused by the update it would have been widely reported and fixed in the subsequent 2. :colbert:
ok fine, explane then why if i did not add anything or mess up my gmod or steam from a week or so before that update to now, what is wrong? It was the update, because I did not do anything else that would have messed up gmod
Can you two take this somewhere else? This is a help thread, not a flamewar
well im not starting a flamewar, i am just simple stating that i think it was an update
I've had this problem on 2 Different Computers. Both without addons to start with.
delete addons?
Problem is fixed for me.. fixed itsself.
I have the same problem. But it's a little different, instead of moving stuff (The squares) It like freezes on "Retrieving Server Info" then unfreezes for a sec and freezed on "Sending Client Info" then it stays frozen for about 2-5 mins and unfreezes, it loads for a sec and it goes in to the game. Really annoying :S
This is what happens too me.
Nothing really helps except for hitting Shift+Tab.
I managed to fix it myself,
-Create a new notepad document
-In the document type "hl2.exe -game garrysmod" (without the " things)
-Save it as "Gmod.bat" and make sure "save as all files" is selected
-(Optional) Create a desktop shortcut
This bypasses the steam "preparing to launch" window and starts up gmod instantly. It also seems to make it load faster, though I am not entirely sure of this. Happy playing!

Forgot to mention, save it in the root garrysmod folder (Program files>steam>steamapps>garrysmod)
Would that mean that I can't use Steam overlay ingame though?
Would that mean that I can't use Steam overlay ingame though?
Nope, everything works normally. Steam still runs the game, it just doesn't launch it. The overlay lays *heh heh* intact.
Rated clock for obvious reasons.
Anyways back on topic. Some time ago it took me almost half an hour to load! Now after the update and cleaning (I now have just PHX3,Wiremod,Gcombat+extended and a few minor mods to help construction) its down to almost 5 minutes. And about the "prepearing to launch game"....I think that steam is just playing sh*t with us!How come a cracked version of ANY steam game would start up IMEDIATLY after the non-steam shortcut has been pressed and steam takes a sh*t load of time!Me and my friend even did a test comparing a downloaded and cracked version of Episode 2 to a steam one...3 minutes difference!
If that's the case, I'll modify all my shortcuts to do that :P
Might as well ^_^
