Anyone that say water physics ain't possible on todays computers:
You're right.
I bet [NO, I AM NOT SURE!] that's something around GeForce 6600, Pentium 4 3GHz and 1GB of RAM. That should be the Super (...) PC for this date.
Its a P4HT@2.8Ghz, a Geforce 7600 that I overclocked, and 1.5 GB of Ram.
i agree with this, but they are probably working on it, also it would be good if they had an option to enable/disable DX10 rendering, because sadly not everyone can afford or be bothered to buy a card capable of running DX10 perfectly.
water physics is possible, look at blender, and a game coming out later in the year ( i think ) called hydrophobia, i dont think it can make air bubble by putting something in upside down, but it replicates water pretty good.
DX10 cards have been out for 2-3 years. You don't need a graphics card that runs DX10 perfectly, just one that supports it. 8600s are like 50$ nowa days. Blender water is not in real-time. Hydrophobia is not the source engine which is what we are discussing.

Lags pretty bad, requires PhysX which is only available on newer nvidia GPUs and lags without even doing anything complex like AI, players and everything else that goes into making a GAME instead of a TECH DEMO.

I told you that I wasn't sure.
The fan part may be a possible thing, it doesn't need water physics. Just a simple things that tells the game "Oh, it seems this fan blade model is underwater, lets push him" or "Hey, the fanblade model is spinning above water, lets push anything within this distance in front of it". Same thing goes for the thruster thing. Garry could implement these things, hell I can do it in hammer if I wanted to.

Point was it's possible with todays technology.
Point was it's possible with todays technology.
My point was that it was unusable in anything other then a Tech Demo, and needed specialized hardware.

Which wasn't the question in the first place.
I love it when I bump into prop physics and magically take fall damage
Oh quit bitching OP, Havok wasn't designed for sandbox games, it was designed for combat.
There actually IS an addon for water. :v: . But each drop is a flat material piece - entity, I wouldn't seriously call it water... And it's lagged to hell.
X/...
Water physics QUALITY-wise is already adequate - just look at the CGI in films like The Day After Tomorrow. Sure, the rendering times were on the scale of weeks, but it's a start at least. Also that film had a budget of like >100 million, but meh.
I dont know about that, Valve creates it's engine for HL2 EP3 not for Gmod
And give me one fucking reason why HL2 EP3 needs water physics?
It's not like kleiner will give you a bottle and says: bring me some fucking water?
The game is already as long as it is, No need for it too take even longer before it get's released.
sorry but garry doesnt have his own engine he uses other engines like ep2 right now and edits them so when ep3 cvomes out we gets ep3 engine but that means new maping programs and all maps would be opsolete if they had water unless you can use both
Some of the people saying water physics 20-50 years from now? Try 5-10.
I have figured out how to calculate the physic's of water... Its simple really just connect you computer to your brain can than while you do that i will write a program to understand the signals.
--I have the most powerful computer in the world. I have my brain~ :)
The quicker valve drop <dx9 the better the graphics for future source games.
Seriously, if you don't have atleast a dual-core and an 8800 gpu, you need to get the fuck out.
Shame valve make their textures look more detailed then how they really are using $detail textures :|.
I'm on a single 2.8 and a Radeon 3850 on AGP. I run the game at usually 200+ FPS at all times, what's your point?
Some of the people saying water physics 20-50 years from now? Try 5-10.
I'd say even 5-10 years is a bit too far too.
Just take a look at this:
Has anyone else noticed this? If you place a sealed container into water, it is automatically water logged, leaving you unable to build any under water rooms. If you use the wheel tool and place a fan onto an object, that fan provides zero propulsion against the air.
Even placed in water the fan doesn't do anything of use, it leaves me wondering why put them in? Fans make terrible wheels. On a related subject, thrusters. They provide no backlash or force output from the flames, should you stand behind them. Yet they are perfectly able to blast heavy objects around the map.
Feel free to add your own pet hates with the physics in Gmod.
yeah cause the water isnt a fluid its just a textured block
so if some one can make a tsunami gmod video i will say GG

Water Physics isn't on any decent game that I know yet, it's in the maps themselves, nothing to do with Garrysmod. I use the fan on the wheel tool as a torture device/way to kill things. There is actually a fan tool that does that. And for the thruster, I can't imagine how fucking annoying it would be getting pushed back everytime you stood near a thruster.

Isn't that what the guy is pointing out? Garry uses a already existing engine, so it's nothing to do with Garry that we don't have water physics?
Who give a shit if Garrysmod has know water physics you want fucking water physics stick your penis in a tub of hot water and see how the fucking water moves around while you scream like a little bitch.
i think the source engine is fine the way it is cuz its still fun and it doent make my computer explode. water physics arnt rly taht importent anyway.
Ever see the water STOOL? Spawn a lakes-worth of that, that is why water physics does not compute.
That's because it's shoe horned into an expensive entity based system. OBVIOUSLY it's not going to work efficiently like that, and you shouldn't benchmark based on that. You also should not benchmark water physics on old hardware, or software that does not take advantage of new hardware designed to do these things.

When I read this I had a really bad case of laughter and confusion.
I like how you say "pet hates" as if that's a real phrase, and how you think Gmod is real life.
