Why not simply race/species? You get colored which you are and start off on that planet. Like a Martian would be read and their normal environment would be Mars (ie, don't need anything to live there). Each would need different groups of LS equipment, because someone that comes from Neptune wound not need o2 and would always need coolant on any other planet.
This is more a question in relation to mapping in Space Build so I thought I'd post it here. I am having some problems with creating the skybox and planet exterior.
So basically my questions are, what texture should the skybox be set to, and what texture should the sphere surrounding each planet be set to. I know the inside hollow triangles should be covered with the fake white sky but I am not sure on the sphere surrounding each planet.
What would be good is if someone posted an example VMF file that had one planet with the correct atmosphere and day/night cycles so that people can at least look at it and see what is wrong with theirs if they have trouble.
I just decompiled all the existing spacebuild maps to see how they were done to get some ideas. Have to say that Slavik's gm_spacevoyage and Jinto's gm_solarsystem were done a lot differently!
Sounds like a good idea on how to get some hints when building a spacebuild map. I might do that when I get home.

Just a tip but make sure to decompress the BSP file as well with the SourceSDK's BSPzip. The two spacebuild maps that I decompiled had some skyboxs and textures in the BSP as well.
I think the Lifesupport is becoming too complicated. Could you atleast make the tanks/coolant tanks/cells start full when they're made? It'd save alot of time. Also, what caused that huge blast in the screenshot on Garrysmod.org?

It would be nice if they started half or quarter full.
If you go into the lua of the res_cache this line after:

I like that idea, and it seems to be the best way to implement some RP into Spacebuild.
I actually had a little gamemode set up based on a much older version of Spacebuild - players were assigned to two teams, Earth and Mars, to facilitate space battles between two teams. I quickly realized that the Martians had the disadvantage of suffocating, so I tweaked the code to let Martians breathe and not freeze on Mars. It's not too hard to do.
The problem comes with starting space-travel. The air-compressor doesn't function on Mars, so the Martians had to set up a ton of oxygen scrubbers to have enough air for space-travel. I made a simple Martian Air Compressor, which only worked on Mars. Buuuut... now the Earthlings can spawn the Martian Air-Compressor and get easy air on Mars.
So I guess the trick would be finding some way to restrict the toolgun based on the player's race.

Wouldn't the martians stop them? by blowing their compressors up? Also in the map you can create an entity with the class name of a martian compressor and tell it to spawn on mars. This would mean if the earthlings blow up your compressors then your screwed!

The race ideas sounds very cool, I especially like the idea of space battles between the races.
This is a brillaint gamemode, It's really enjoyable to play.
The only problem I get is that it gets very laggy after a while due to the vast amount of big props and LifeSupport, you should consider teaming up with someone to produce some nice tidy models for it. This should remove the lag and it will help Spacebuild become a more 'complete' gamemode.

HELP! After i cleaned my Gmod folder Spacebuild is not working! I have lifesupport and Spacebuild gamemode but the temperature, habitable variable, etc doesn't appear!
Reinstall.If you cleaned Gmod folder,then there is no mod installed,that's why.
Well this is awsome but when I go out in space I am able to breathe. I don't have the portal gun but I do have that giant sweps pack if any one could help me I would really appriciate it.
This is seriously good.
I Pmed Shanjaq about a thruster and hoverball fuel system, but he hasn't replied. Basically, there'd be a fuel resource that you have to link to thrusters and hoverballs (It can be toggleable wether to use Lsupport thrusters/hoverballs or normal ones), and when it runs out, the thrusters go super slow. (Power will be relative to the weight of the prop it is pushing.). If anyone wants to, you can make this, it doesn't HAVE to be Shanjaq.
I don't even have the space build game mode, what am i missing.
i downloaded life support and the distribution thing, what els do i need and can you link me to it?
