It only seems to happen when someone has joined, and it keeps going even if there are no more players.
ok, I'll keep testing, but so far I've been running two servers, one with 5 people in it and the other with 10, there is still no sign of that bug. Could there be a mod conflict somewhere? Edit:
:argh: So what keeps gravity off in space, what do i need to do in Hammer to get it to work right?
After days of fighting with massive trigger_vphysics_motion brushes and noticing their buggy side-effects like props bobbing upward when shot or nudged, not to mention the heinous lag induced by having all of space permeated with immense trigger brushes, I instead created a script that would read planetary positions and radii into a table, then check all objects in the map against them and turn on/off gravity where appropriate.
Clean server. The only thing installed is SpaceBuild :) Hell, we don't even have an admin mod on yet.
This is awesome, more awesome when combined with Avon's stargate

Edit: I mean like, we can map it but how do we set the gravity?
I LOVE this map! good job keep working on a second map!!
A good tip is don't use any hover balls and just put thrusters on the bottom to go up. when you get out the earths atmosphere there is no gravity. I am working on a co pilot bot made out of wire mod the only input i need to finish it off is a way to wire up the tanks to detect air levels so it automatically goes back to earth! I will make the components on a P.C.B so It can be an integrated circuit that can be implemented to run on all ships with the right hardware. A map suggestion: If space is (meant to be) eternal could you make a huge teleport trigger the moves you to the opposite side of the map? then it would give the illusion of constantly going through space! It would be a faded teleport so you would just see space and then earth would slowly fade in or the planet that is appropriate this would be awesome for super hyper fast ships that hit the sky box in like 2 seconds. EDIT: if you don't understand imagine the game snake where it can just go through walls and teleport though walls.
all we need now is a map of the entire galaxy even Pluto and the sun
So how would we create our own maps? Edit: I mean like, we can map it but how do we set the gravity?
That is what I alluded to in the main post, I intend to write a tutorial on how to make your own maps using the script. As soon as I'm done chasing down these bugs I can get to that.
all we need now is a map of the entire galaxy even Pluto and the sun
That's not the galaxy, that's our solar system.
This goes great with the Stargate mod.
You own, this a brilliant gamemode!
The one thing I don't like is on the planet that has the gas, it hurts you as soon as you go on it D:
The one thing I don't like is on the planet that has the gas, it hurts you as soon as you go on it D:
If you want to survive on Venus, you need an Air Exchanger from the Life Support Mod, as mentioned in the original post. It can be found here: http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=284353 Edit:
Clean server. The only thing installed is SpaceBuild :) Hell, we don't even have an admin mod on yet.
Have you run the HldsUpdateTool and made sure your srcds is current? I just re-installed SRCDS with nothing but gmod installed and had people join my server then asked them to try and break it. No errors occurred.
This is truely awesome. I'd love to see some more addons that work with this gamemode!
I'm working on a jetpack for zero gravity use, and maybe I'll do a gravity generator.
I'm working on a jetpack for zero gravity use, and maybe I'll do a gravity generator.
Awesome. This could quickly become the best gamemode for Gmod. (If it isn't already :D)
Everything is astronomically incorrect... especially the sizes / distances.
I know, but Mercury gives heat damage and Venus doesn't.
Well it has the problem that you can actually fill up the respirator, and jump from one of the hills out into space.. from there you can actually fly to any planet, so I'm gonna make it need air to refill (it has a "fuel" bar)
I know, but Mercury gives heat damage and Venus doesn't.
I thought about that and decided it might be a game-breaker, since the heat on the surface of Venus has nothing to do with direct sunlight(night-side heat only slightly decreases) so basically you'd be burning constantly no matter what kind of structure you built, whereas on Mercury you could build elaborate covered structures.
Shanjaq, there is still space in gravity for me, and I get the error posted above (The one with the picture of the console). It's on a dedicated server.
Shanjaq, there is still space in gravity for me, and I get the error posted above (The one with the picture of the console). It's on a dedicated server.
Well it seems to happen on dedi servers, does it appear if you host a listen server?
Shanjaq, there is still space in gravity for me, and I get the error posted above (The one with the picture of the console). I like the map it's really fun. (Winner) Remember me off the server? :D
So what's chapter 2 going to be? :D Great gamemode by the way!
So what's chapter 2 going to be? :D Great gamemode by the way!
the asteroid belt, gas giants and pluto(or just a humble little "Kuiper Belt Object" with its own moon...)?
This is definatly going on my ded server when i've sorted out my own game (It never actually loads -- the mem usage in task manager never passes 170mb, the current usage doesn't go above 400mb - i've got a gig). No idea what's wrong with my game, so if anyone knows a fix, i'll be glad to hear it.
Something i would suggest while fixing bugs. Make a FGD for this gamemode that adds a new entity to hammer, called "Func_Air", where in Hammer you make the brush, tie it to a func_air and then inside you can give it name, and like Precentage of air, so you could do anything below 75 you won't be able to break forever in it, your air tanks slowly deplete, and the further down you go the fast they deleplete. That way I can make the map i'm planning on which is like a martan base, which has air inside the base but not outside, which i can't find a way to do with your mod. >:( Another think would to be setting amount of gravity for each planet, not sure if it's possible. Edit: I think I got you with that space gravity there... "ent:SetGravity(0.00001)"
I have a problem. Whenever I save and load a game using this map and gamemode, the gamemode doesn't load after I've loaded the save. That means there is gravity and no life support functionality in space. Shanjaq, could you make a fix for this or tell me how to make it work? sv_gamemode SpaceBuild didn't do anything to help it. Please help me.

I've been running this for a good few hours now, and here's my experiences:

8 Slots max is best
Install PHX for some very creative ship building!
Life support mod is a MUST
Prop Protection
You will need to run sv_gamemode "SpaceBuild" before the map/changelevel command!
Stupidly good fun!
Great for colonisation
Made a death star >: D
Seriously, if you have the right people, SpaceBuild is a blast. Literally!

I want to keep the props and ships on my map.
