• Recurring error, won't go away

God knows. It didn't for me. I've put that disk in that came with my computer too, before you ask.
I still need help please! I've googled around to find DirectX9.0c, I can't find it (or if I can, I have to pay)
I'm not asking for you to come and fix my computer, or recode some faulty lua or make a massive addon or whatever the crap you would need in order to fix my Gmod issue. I'm asking where I can get DirectX. That's ALL. it is not specialised knowledge. Surely SOMEONE knows where to get it. Please help.
Microsoft's download page. Somewhere in there. Can't remember the URL, though.
I don't. I'm sorry but I really have no clue.
[url]http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/resultsForProduct.aspx?displaylang=en&productID=9C954C37-1ED1-4846-8A7D-85FC422D1388[/url] Downloaded DirectX 10 from here. Gmod still only works with -dxlevel 80 put in, only now the surface of all water is solid white on both sides. Now what?
Garry's Mod doesn't use DirectX 10. It was made to run in DX9, but with DX 8 and 7 compatibility.
So I need DX9? Garry really should update... [editline]01:35PM[/editline] [QUOTE=|FlapJack|;20801073]Have you ever considered the creators of such addons can't be bothered uploading every single minor change as a new version on garrysmod.org?[/QUOTE] You weren't listening. I'll re-explain myself. See the capitals: [QUOTE=carbint;20800987]Did it ever occur to you that it's only updated 2-3 times a day BECAUSE it uses SVN? It doesn't use SVN BECAUSE it updates 2-3 times a day, it is the other way around entirely. If it were hosted at garrysmod.org (which, ironically enough, it is), it would be updated with a big pack EVERY NOW AND THEN.[/QUOTE] Also I got steam to reinstall Gmod and then copied those fresh files and replaced the possibly missing/edited/corrupted etc. files in my actual Gmod folder.
[QUOTE=carbint;20851029] So I need DX9? Garry really should update... [/QUOTE] Garry is not in charge of the source engine. Also, most graphics cards do not yet support DX10, so moving over to it would loose 90% or more of players. It would not be a smart move.
Okay. Well anyway I downloaded DX9.0c and tried to install, but as soon as I clicked Install, it said it had finished so I guess it didn't do anything... :s And yet when I run as -dxlevel 90, it crashes. [editline]02:10PM[/editline] Ah I loaded Gmod, the water is okay now but I don't see the surface still - it's solid white from both sides.
Screenshot? PC specs?
It's not the problem with the pc specs as they haven't changed since a week ago when it was working poorly but still seeable, or 3 months ago when it all worked perfectly. And a screenshot - well there's not much to show you, like I said it is shadeless white plane where the water was, but I'll do that nonetheless - give me a minute. [editline]03:20PM[/editline] Ugh no Gmod is completely fucked up now - I can't do anything without an error appearing. It launches with the old image of Gman and the cone on his head, don't know why. I'll uninstall and reinstall it and replace addons gradually and let you know if something goes wrong - again. Thanks for your patience and support guys. Until next time! (and let's face it, I'm sure there will be a next time)
I've reinstalled Gmod, and now the water surface is back to normal but it STILL doesn't refract the light, and now underwater it's all murky brown again. I still don't see light-bending effects such as the Quantum Storage Device light-twisting effect (see [url=http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=showimg&v=45558_3]this image[/url]) Sorry if this site doesn't do BB code :P anyway, I don't see that sort of light effect (though I get the blue particles and lightning just fine). If I run with -dxlevel 90, it crashes, but running with either -dxlevel 80 or nothing written there runs.
Help please!
Sounds like you've either pirated gmod and lying about it or your graphics hardware doesn't support direct x 9.
Neither of those things is true. Like I said, I paid for a legitimate copy of Gmod about... 8 months ago? Something like that. And this ugly water was there then as well. It took a while to get it sorted (ironically with the help of people here again), but eventually I did. Then a virus blue-screened me and I formatted my hard drive. By the way, if it helps - Steam, Gmod and HL2 are all installed on my external drive. When I formatted my hard drive, Steam remained completely intact and untouched. [editline]09:41PM[/editline] Also, the four shader slabs under Effects in Gmod display as such, in order of appearance in the spawnlist: Fully visible, black, black, black. [editline]10:26PM[/editline] No-one is aware that I posted again because of the stupid edited post system, so I have to pretty much spam in order to get noticed. Sorry.
Hopefully this will actually count as a NEW post, so that people can SEE that I've actually posted. This system does get on my nerves.
Help please! [editline]01:20PM[/editline] When I run HL2, all visual effects, including bump maps and water refraction effects, work absolutely fine. So obviously there isn't a problem with my computer specs, and I obviously also have the right DirectX or whatever installed, it must be a problem with Gmod. But what exactly?
GMod it self does not have a problem because the rest of us can use it fine. The problem is you.
I'll just say it again then. When I run HL2, ALL visual effects, INCLUDING bump maps AND water refraction effects, WORK ABSOLUTELY FINE. So obviously there ISN'T a problem with my computer specs, and I obviously also have the RIGHT DirectX or whatever installed, it MUST be a problem with GMOD. But WHAT exactly?
Please help!
Help! [editline]08:52PM[/editline] Help! [editline]08:53PM[/editline] [QUOTE=carbint;20879703]Help! [editline]08:52PM[/editline] Help![/QUOTE]
Help! [editline]11:50PM[/editline] Help! [editline]12:30AM[/editline] Right, I've worked out why all of those errors appeared on the screen. I don't know why it's caused, but I know that it is Conna's Tools pack from garrysmod.org. And even if you delete it, the error remains. Yay.
You ARE aware that I'm not going to go away until I get an answer, don't you? It's okay if you want to carry on ignoring me, but eventually someone will have to give in, and it sure as Hell won't be me. I know what you're thinking - "Well it won't be us either!" Trust me. It will. I will just go on and on and on until I get what I want. Savvy?
La la la...
Weeeeeee!!! [editline]12:49PM[/editline] Sir Spamalot, ever heard of him? What about Sir Helpsirspamalot? C'mon, you know you want to... ;)
Bump!
FFS. Look at the error. [code] [b]wire/client/toolscreen.lua[/b]:23: attempt to call upvalue '_ViewModelDrawn' (a nil value) [/code] Hmm? It is a wire error which was fixed months ago. Update Wire.
FFS right back atcha. Have you not READ what the problem is? I fixed that AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGES ago. I am STILL talking about the GRAPHICS problems. And FYI, it ISN'T outdated Wire. It is Conna's Tools from garrysmod.org that causes this. I know this because after re-installing Gmod, tools worked fine until I loaded a tool from Conna's Tools. Then the error appeared for EVERY tool loaded, Conna's or not. After deleting Conna's Tools, the error changed to be about wire, so obviously it is some clash between Wire and this Conna's Tools pack. edit: also I haven't even HAD wire for months. I haven't even had it for ONE month.
what are your computer specs
