Why can't it? Unless you want everyone playing those kind of funmaps, why would you include it?
Well for the most part we want a fair amount of realism, realistic weapons, gameplay, etc. But it can't hurt to get silly sometimes.
When you guys are making weapons remember one thing; the weapons should be made with a realistic mindset, for example survivors aren't just going to stumble across a huge RPG/chain gun/whatever else on their journey to escape. And on an unrelated note, the flare gun seems to be completely useless when compared to the molotov
yeah in the previous pages somewhere i said it rules out chainguns. but it's heavily buried in shit posts so i don't blame you for missing it. However it may be true that the flares will be useless, but already the game is basically a scavenge hunt. flares would just add to the fun when you're desperate.
You should make a fun server (mario / tetris maps) and a serious server (redqueen / survival maps).
We will have a vote system I'm sure. (lol i didn't talk to the team about it.)
oh heres an idea as you run out of ammo in clips once its empty you keep it and it can be used as a throwable item.
ammo isn't THAT rare. but if you can find how to make it affect the gameplay in a fun manner than sure.
I know its not rare im just saying throw-able wep's would be fun, BTW im Wolfwood if nivek hasn't told you.
Looks like a pretty fun game, can't wait til you release it. Could you add some sort of zombie bait to the game? I was thinking something along the lines of bugbait from Half-Life 2, but it attracts zombies for a limited amount of time. Properties: -Will attract all zombies within a certain range for a limited amount of time. -Lasts 10 seconds (or less, whatever you see fit) if used by itself. -Lasts 30 seconds if you coat a live teammate in it (sacrifice someone so the rest of you can run away) -Can only be acquired from a freshly-killed teammate's corpse. (Zombies would be attracted to the fresh blood/organs/whatever) <- This one's a 'maybe'
hmmnmgng this seems like a good idea for flare.

We fully appreciate the permission we have received from the several mappers who have granted it to us.
So when do we get access to the game servers?
Me wanna play as well!
Sometime next week hopefully.
hey brohas how bout an actuall flashlight weapon it acts like the crowbar so you can use it to hit things but you have to have it for a flashlight instead.
Add some of those running zombies from smod or someting
we need epic ambient music I MEAN JUNK THAT WILL GET YOUR BLOOD GOING!
Will there be an option to turn off additions to vanilla ZM? I don't want to see this turn into another ZM: Black fiasco.
Will there be an option to turn off additions to vanilla ZM? I don't want to see this turn into another ZM: Black fiasco.
This is not a straight copy of everything in the original ZM, just the concept and the idea of it.
Here go bother Sassilization for using css deathrun maps, then when you're done go bother whoever is porting models from so many games into the source engine! YEAH MAN WE'LL GET EM ALL! YAAHHH! [editline]09:40PM[/editline] We're still winning.
You're taking these conversations into a 'winning' attidute? Shows maturity.
Stop trashing the thread. Kevin has gone on vacation or something. When he gets back we will look into getting a beta server up. Don't expect too many models from me, this isn't the only thing we are working on.
You people are acting like children. If you start this up again, I'm closing the thread and banning people. This goes for everyone.
I only read the thread to the 3rd page, but some people here are being very abusive. About map copyrights. You can not pack a map into your mod without the permission of the author. just packing it and waiting for the author to complain is not allowed either. What you are allowed to do, is grabbing the map in its original form (the ay it was packed and uploaded by the creator) and putting it on your server to run, if nothing was modified. Also, you should remove that guy who says these swearwords a lot from your PR team, he gives a really bad impression of your team. About Katherine. Here ban was completely unjustified. It was not trolling, she pointed out legal issues that they apparently overstepped. I would suggest removing that ban, else it throws a very bad light on this forum, if people are getting banned for pointing out copyright issues. You would not want someone to pirate GMOD on a different forum and ban you greasemonkey for pointing it out there, would you? Also, if this makes the round on other mapping forums that people are getting banned like Katherine, you are going to look really bad. Also about wether something was copied from the original ZM code or not. Since it is all LUA code in a gamemodes, anyone can take a look at the code once it is released and check wether credit was due or not.

This being part of refraction servers and is most likely dependent on a MySQL database which runs from there web server I'm in doubt this will be released( Just guessing here don't yell at me. ) thus making this entire argument completely invalid. Edit: OP Says it's exclusive to refraction, They are not redistributing the map other than server downloads and the maps can be obtained for free anyways. There is no permission needed. It's like making a custom map for your server, you need to send it to the clients and you cannot stop them using it on there own servers.
If they aren't releasing it they don't need permission to run the map
Not sure, if they only use some random map for internally testing something and it never gets released, then no one will ever know. But since they are using the map to advertise the mod by posting stuff in its official thread, it can be seen as the map being used as advertising, which then would be a copyright breach (if there was no copyright obtained). Also about releasing files, some files are being copied to the client and can be looked at, even if you do not release the server code. Therefore large parts of the code are still exposed to the public.

No. I don't think we should talk about this in this thread anymore.
No, what I meant was that there is a difference between simply grabbing a map and putting on your server (which is legal) and packing a map with the mod. Now since in GMOD everything autodownloads from the server it is a bit more complicated. If a map just "happens to be" on the server, when someone joins and downloadds it, it is legal. The problem here is that in GMOD the auto download blurs the line between adhoc downloaded things and full mod releases. If we look at a normal source mod for example, it would be like this: Putting a map on a server, in unmodified form is legal. But packing the map to "ship" with the mod in the base install file would need permission. So yeah in GMOD this part is blurred. So if the map happens to be on the server withou being an explicit part of the base install, it is legal. All of this applies to a completely unmodified bsp and and readme.txt that comes with the map if there was one.
1 Kathrine had a short 1 hour ban i think it was, and then 2 we did talk to the creator of the maps and he WANTS them to use his maps. Dont believe me? whatever just go ask PI then hes the creator and he wants us to.
