Are you guys just retarded or are you intentionally derailing the thread?
Or do you just not know how to read?
grea$emonkey has warned people here multiple times to stop derailing the thread, but it looks like you're all just ignoring him.
You people are acting like children. If you start this up again, I'm closing the thread and banning people. This goes for everyone.
Unlike those of you who are here just to trash the thread, I actually WANT to play this gamemode and I will be quite a sad panda if this thread is closed.
Anyway, just a few questions I had about the gamemode:
Is the Zombie Master able to create spawnpoints on the go, or are you only allowed to set everything up before a round starts? How many zombies are you allowed to have?
the map has the spawnpoints already in it, you're able to spawn as many zombies as you want as long as you have the resources and stay below the 20 population limit. The population limit will probably change as we get some gameplay going, playing with 4 people isn't very consistent.
You should make it so that the Zombie Master gets to set the spawnpoints. It would make for a much more strategic game and there would also be more mystery for the players (it would get boring if after a few rounds on a map, the players would know exactly where the zombies spawn :s)
EDIT:
The Zombie Master DOES get to decide when to release the zombies, right?
Sorry 'bout all the questions, I've never played ZM before, even on HL2 (never played HL2)
Yes the zombiemaster clicks on a spawnpoint and then chooses how many/what type of zombie to spawn. Then you're able to select the zombies and make them run somewhere.
Also yes, maybe you shouldn't be able to place ALL of the spawn points, that could ruin a few maps where you need to hold an area for some time and zombies spawning ON the area wouldn't be too fun. We could have it so you can buy a spawn point and place it, we'd need to know how to fix those strong points though.

I dont care. If a moderator kicks people for bringing up valid issues in a polite manner (unlike one of the modders) then the admin basically lost his right to be respected. Just slamming a fist on the table and doing a gorilla battle cry just because he "can" is basically abusive behaviour. This shut up I am admin behaviour is very impolite.
On topic, movable spawn points would be cool.
There probably will be movable spawn points, however the map's traps are exclusive to the map only, so they will still be predicted.
Well on the idea of those traps we could always create like a pile of boxes that zombies pop out of, or things along those lines. But the ones that are there already cant be moved.
Oh god shut up about it, we have permission to use some maps, those are what we are using for the time being, regardless of my attitude, I feel we can use any map but to respect those who spent their time creating the maps I have contacted them with Chewgum and GAINED permission, so stop complaining with your opinion how we're wrong cause you're too late to the argument. Now I'd like to keep this thread from now fourth off the previous topics that have been resolved, if you can come up with a new issue besides us not having permission ( because now we fucking do so you lose anyway ) then please state your new complaints.

This would be cool but it would give the Master an unfair advantage, the maps are designed for the zombie spawns to be in those specific areas to balance out how much power the zombie master can have with fucking people up with zombies, if we do add spawnable spawners then we'd make them really expensive compared to the regular spawners. I do like this idea though.
Since I happen to create maps for ZM too I would get angry if you pack and/or modify one of my maps without prior permission asked. I would carpet bomb this thread with copyright complaints. Just to make it clear:
If you put a completely unmodified map on your server it is perfectly legal, as long it is not shipping with the mod and it was not modified in any way.

These "valid issues" have dominated the first 3 pages of the thread, and we're past that now. They've already said multiple times that they're getting permission from the authors. Give it a rest or there will be consequences.

The game is exclusive to our servers. The clients will have/use the map. IF we decide to release our code the maps won't be packed with it. This was the plan all along and I still don't find any issue with people downloading maps and using them to play on our server. Doesn't matter cause we have permission where we want it. End of discussion.
Alright, so how about the Zombie Master gets a maximum of 3 moveable spawnpoints which have to be at least a certain distance away from each other? There can also be spots where the master is not allowed to place the spawnpoints if they are too strategically superior.
What I've been reading looks to me like VERY predictable traps that can be memorized easily. :s
Another limitation for moveable spawnpoints could be that you can only spawn a small number of zombies OR only one type.
Moveable spawn points seem great, but on the topic of 'predictability'. How about the ZM has the ability to spawn a spectator (read: Dead player) as a zombie. and create waypoints on his screen? Obviously this would take a lot of work, but it would be interesting when people think their cade is npc proof as a player zombie jumps over it or knocks it down. :<
would a player zombie be an option or if it just spawns them there needs to be a limit of human zombies and what if the ZM tells the human player to go somewhere it should create a little ball of light.
Sorry i tried to make it sound like the ZM has to spawn the player. Dead players should not just automatically spawn, this would make the game too hard for the last few survivors.
thats exactly what I was getting at so thank you for clarifying.
Zombie Master should not be able to choose spawn points, one of the problems with the original mod was people kept putting zombies in doors or elevators and blocking / breaking the map so none could continue.
In gmod we can specify off limit areas. But this sounds like too much of a hassle, it won't be in the beta but we might try it out soon. If it's too much of a problem we will just remove it.
Edit: Don't think all of these ideas will be included. I'm just brainstorming.
I don't like the whole "dead players become zombies" idea; it makes it too similar to that "zombie survival" game or whatever it's called (i.e. players dying and turning into infected)
For the most part we're sticking to the main concept, there won't be any adding spawn points.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Besides, mappers need to be able to test their maps. Therefor, they would need to have the gamemode as well. Also, I remember all those nice LAN games with Zombie Master.
You could still release new version on your server first (like, 2 weeks before they are released to the public or so).
---
I would appreciate some Lua interface for easy addition of new, maybe map-specific zombies. With Lua, this would no longer be a problem and might add much replayability. Trap scripting with Lua would also be fun.
As for the movable spawn points: If there are enough pre-scripted spawns, the ZM can still decide which one to use depending on the situation. Plus, in the original Zombie Master there is already the Hidden Zombie option (which costs too many ressources imo, but anyway). Also, fixed spawn points could be set at appropriate locations like tombstones, which looks much better than a zombie being spawned in the middle of the street.
Doing a invitation beta test tonight (Around 9PM GMT -5). Just some testing.
And if we decide to release, it will be when it's really stable, I might include some tools for things though.

The whole interconnected system is ready, just need to test stability of the game. We have other games in progress but this will be our first, we have added a couple new thinks to the game and intent to add more. If you would like to come help us test out our servers and the whole interconnected game system / site and see our online casino as a member ( basically get in on the private beta ) please feel free to PM me and when we're ready I'll dish out a content link (until I setup fastDL). Thanks for the support everyone!

do i get credit for the idea :P That goes to Chewgum but i aint pointing fingers lol
There's a competitor: http://www.zombiemaster.org/smf/index.php?topic=10066.0
Nice :p
competitor? i posted an idea like this a while back on the oldage forums, never got around to it though

Is this server released to the public yet?
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
