Buy it, it's worth it. Also, if you don't own HL2 already, or have never played it (shock, horror) you should buy them together. HL2 is worth playing to the extreme. It really broke the mould when it came out, and still stands as one of the most original shooters to this day.

Exactly what this guy said, there are other sources to it as well such as day of defeat, HL1, and left 4 dead but you could just pick those off later if you want them.
just remember to get the mods that are essential for online play, otherwise you'll mostly see errors twhen a player spawns something.
Such as Wiremod or pheonix storms but there are way to many to list. someone should make a thread about that.

Onto serious business, I recommend it. The more source games you have, the better(in my opinion) the fun. Especially since most addons require Counter-Strike Source and HL2 games(Ep1 and Ep2)

You could get the MW2 killstreaks as an addon.

Get HL2 Ep1. Its about $10 too.
Essentially, you can play GMOD as whatever you want. Race cars, beat the shit out of people and minges, shoot people's heads off, play some roleplaying, build some funny shit, make ragdolls look weird, whatever you want. It is essentially a really random game. If you want a break from all the call of duty shit, then just buy this. You'll get a few laughs.

HL2:EP2 (optional) (for props) $19.99
TF2 (just cool) (fun game) (for good one good SWEP pack $19.99
They're all good.
BTW Gmod + (game) package saves you 5 bucks.
