I'm having a fustrating time with my router. I have forwarded my ports for Garry's Mod, but almost everytime I tried, Net Gear seems to keep putting my server under the lan page. I'm about to try connecting without the stupid router and see if it works without it. I have Zone Alarm and McAfee, but I have had them before it started to place my server on lan, and both of the firewalls appear to be off.
You must try sv_lan 0 and heartbeat if still doesn't work wait for about 30 min because your ping could be high while it is hosting your server!
Thanks david i have been trying for months and finally i got it thanks to you, if i have anymore questions may i private message you?
I've gotten the server to work yestarday. It seems that I can't see my server on the internet, but people can join it now. Thanks for the help; I thought the port forwarding sequence wasn't working.
Umm... i have a linksys, and when i try to find "Port Forwarding" or "Virtual Servers", there's only port range forwarding. And even worse, i need a end number and start number, i need to set it as udp, both, or some other one, and i need to type in my ip (i know it already) and also, a application. Can someone help me?
I kind of have the same problem. I have the same thing as you but you need to put 27016 in both the start and end and I've tried UDP but that didn't work. I'm going to try the both setting right now. Hopefully this works for me !_!
ok, for Comcast users, the router they set up for you is NOT a standard Linksys, therefore it requires a different password and username. the default is Username: comcast Password: 1234
I set up my server, port forwarded, but Oddly enough my server will time people out after awhile. Don't exactly know why.
Turn off your firewall. It's the only solution. That's what I did anyway.
I got Westell, does anyone know the defult login for that router?
my server don´t show in server list , i try disable firewall but problem continue.
I have no idea why all this is neccesary.. All I have to do is start Gmod and click 'Create server'.
Go to the start menu and find the run button. When the prompt comes up type 'command' (without the 's), then click OK. Now type ipconfig and hit enter. Several lines of text come up. Look for the line that has 'Default Gateway' and copy what it says next to it into a new Internet Explorer Also, you may need to disable your windows firewall / any other firewalls you have running at this time. 2 questions : 1- next to the default gate are some numbers do i need to type them in an internet explorer 2- how do i disable the firewall
Hi I am new to this forum. I recently played Gary's Mod at my friends and i fell in love with it. I just downloaded it, but it said if it doesnt show up on steam i should restart steam. i have steam and i have half-life 2 game of the year edition and works fine on my computer. I would really like to know how to restart Steam. thank you, and pleasy reply :)
just quit steam and in the toolbar and load it up again. When i go onto the page from command promt, i go to the page, clikc on virtual server, type in my password (it is correct) it says duplicate administrator file not found... ?
im not sure but garys mod is working YAY lol thank you alot guys
I'm having trouble with this.. I can't get my server to be online, i've done everything in the guide correctly. Please help. I use Avast and Windows firewall, any suggestions?
Hello - - - - My server doesn't show in the internet. (Find Servers) - If you type the IP of my listen server, then it works. - Why?
Hello - - - - My server doesn't show in the internet. (Find Servers) - If you type the IP of my listen server, then it works. - Why?
You need to use the console command "Heartbeat".
I'm having a bit of trouble. I get into the default gateway on internet explorer but the site doesn't appear to have any links for forwarding my ports. Any suggestions?
Nevermind... I'll never host a server, i tried EVERYTHING!!! *cries* D:
mine wants a username and a password help!
This is very strange. I've tried everything suggested. Forwarded ports. Etc. Etc. My friend has the same problem and he doesn't even have a router, yet my other friend who has a router can start a server perfectly.
To get your server in the list you also need to forward port 27015, not just 27016.
ok for all you people who needed the default password for your router...here is a list. Find your router and it will say the default password for it. If it says blank just dont enter anything in that box. Here: http://www.phenoelit.de/dpl/dpl.html Edit: Also, if just forwarding doesnt work, the problem also may be in Windwos Firewall. This happened to me as well, port forwarding didnt work so i opened the ports in windows firwall and it worked! Im too lazy too tpye instructions on how to do this lol but basically open up windwos friewall push exceptions tab then click add port and enter in a name and type in the port number (someone mentioned it above) and then choose tcp and press ok then do the same thing again excecpt choose udp and then it should work because it did work for me after i did this. Sry for gramatical errors im really tired lol.
I stopped playing GMod for about 2-3 months. I just reinstalled it last night and attempted to host my server again, for some reason it doesn't show up on the active server list. I have tried sv_lan 0 as well as heartbeat. I am also set as DMZ on my router with the routers firewall disabled as well as the Windows firewall disabled. After I tried setting all that up it still didn't show up on the active server list, I had it sitting there for over an hour after typing "heartbeat". Next I tried forwarding ports in my router, this is how I have the router setup as. http://xs108.xs.to/xs108/06436/RouterSetting.JPG Anyone have any suggestions? :EDIT: I think I found the problem. I have an Actiontec modem that acts as it's own router with a DHCP Table and DMZ settings. The modem is saddly located on the other side of the house from where I need it to be. Does anyone know of a way to where I can still use my wireless router while going through DMZ on the modem?
I have a DLink, and I don't know what to do next.
I have a DLink, and I don't know what to do next.
My advice is to select the DMZ setting and put in your IP. If you are set to DMZ then you will not need to open any ports.
My router says it requires a password, but no-one in my family knows what it is. Is there some default password to use? Or am I doomed for all eternity? EDIT: Nevermind. Figured out the password. For all you Linksys users, the default username and password is admin admin. So anyway, I found the Port Forwarding link, but I don't know what to type and where. Help? EDIT AGAIN: There's a button that sayd Port Triggering, and it has a chart thing like this : Application Name Trigger Port Range Incoming Port Range 1: ____________ etc. etc. I tried typing 27016 under Application Name and nothing happened.
http://192.168.1.1) type that in your internet explore or firefox then it will say login put your username as admin then look on the bottom of your router then it will say password then that is your defult password then it will ome up in your router settings (you don't have to be connected to the internet to do this) Edit: don't Edit:
Getting Started First, look around and see if you have a router. A router is a small, usually blue, box connected to a internet modem. If you have a modem do this: Go to the start menu and find the run button. When the prompt comes up type 'command' (without the 's), then click OK. Now type ipconfig and hit enter. Several lines of text come up. Look for the line that has 'Default Gateway' and copy what it says next to it into a new Internet Explorer (or, if you want, Fire Fox) window. Once the page loads look for a 'Virtual Servers' or 'Port Forwarding' link. Once the new page loads type 27016 (UDP) then press apply. Now you will need to restart your router by either unplugging it for 60 seconds or finding a small 'Reset' button usually found on the back of the router. Also, you may need to disable your windows firewall / any other firewalls you have running at this time. After the game has loaded you may need to type this in the console:
sv_lan 0
Usefull Commands Now that you have your listen server set up and online you will need how to control it and it's players. The following are some good commands to remember. Remember, // means a comment.
kick <username> // Kicks whoever's username you type in

addip <time> <ip> // This adds the IP address you entered to the ban list for the time you gave in minutes. // To find the IP address type 'status' in the console to find the user's IP.

status // Displays all users on your server, they UserID, SteamID, and IP address.

sv_cheats 1/0 // Either turns cheats on or off. Cheats enable ent_fire commandd, noclip, ect.

gm_sv_clientlimit_props <number> // Changes the number of allowed things. In this case, props. // Props can be replaced with effects, spirites, ragdolls, ect.

gm_sv_allownoclip 1/0 // Either makes it so noclip is disabled or enabled while cheats are off.

heartbeat // Gets your server on the server list instantly. It usually takes around 5 minutes.
Admin Scripts If you are like most people, you can always just use a handy admin script to memorize all these scripts for you. Here are a few scripts that I recommend. Ulysses Mod - An excellent mod that allows you to do anything from freeze players to stop players spawning props. This is the most powerful admin mod out there due to it's ability to give players a certain level of 'access'. Hunt's Mod Revamped - A simpler admin-menu to use than ULX, but with much less features. This mod only allows the host (you) to admin your server with just a click of the mouse.
is this only going to work on g-mod or will it work on css and hl2 deathmatch Edit:
Still not working for me. Turned off firewall, opened the ports, added sv_lan 1 to game.cfg then typed sv_lan 0 when server starts, typed heartbeat in console, but it still won't show up. So, what am I doing wrong?
type sv_lan 0 in the console then heartbeat
