Board Games.
I like this idea.
I like this idea.
2x4: Board Battle
I also like the board games idea. It was something I actually suggested in an earlier suggestions thread (before I was modded). I'll compile a list at the end of the contest.
Board games sounds epic, 8-player monopoly would be fun. That or something like Risk, Stratego, the list goes on.
Chess with antlions and zombies? FUCK YEAH!
Board games sounds epic, 8-player monopoly would be fun. Does "battleships" count as a board game? [editline]12:32PM[/editline] I'd like to suggest two other themes... although they'll probably catch me some boxes :v: Parodies. The gamemodes would have to be a parody of something, what the parody is, is up to the developer. It could remake already existing gamemodes, perhaps even revive some, but make them more stereotypical to what the community is like and things like that. It could also create new gamemodes, based on things many would think was funny. Nostalgia. The gamemodes must have elements of nostalgic games, old games from your childhood... none of this next gen crap we see on the shelves today.
Chess with antlions and zombies? FUCK YEAH!
http://www.fortfn.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=160 Never got round to actually making it...
http://www.fortfn.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=160 Never got round to actually making it...
I remember seeing that thread. You should try doing it, it would be fun. On another note, Battleship is sort of a board game, but I'd consider it more of a minigame than a full-size gamemode.
On another note, Battleship is sort of a board game, but I'd consider it more of a minigame than a full-size gamemode.
It is a board game, and then as a minigame it would be perfect for Fretta.
my rp gamemode was originally based on building and rating art. i'm not sure if my entry really is good enough to make a thread and actually try to compete...
Now there's a custom binary that would be sort of cool, some sort of image-editing binary. Like...I think it was a little painting thing you could do on the Wii. Something like that, only less fail, more useful tools, and an effective way to transfer it between the players. I'm still tossing around the idea of whether or not I should make an entry. I may start it over the weekend if I decide to actually get around to it. I've been wanting to make a gamemode of my own to test more of my Lua knowledge, since I had finally made something not crap/useless. This competition has gotten quite a few interesting entries, though. Judging may be hard this time, maybe you'll want six judges at least, Grease.

Prize update: £50 worth of steam games to the winner. Compliments of JSharpe. Bless his soul.
Prize update: £50 worth of steam games to the winner. Compliments of JSharpe. Bless his soul.
My work speed just got increased by 200 percent.
My work speed just got increased by 200 percent.
And of course, because your working alone, you wouldnt mind sharing the games with me, I take it? If you win, that is.
I find lack of art in this current contest disturbing. I see everyone has gone the way of paintings, not thinking what art really is. Art isnt only in paintings, art can be music, it could be art when you make a fine piece of lua code, art could be you making a sandwich, art can be you making a post on FP or even you cleaning your room. Also art is in the eyes of the viewer. Where im going with this? Art can be absolutely anything.
I agree about the next time - board games would be fun =D.
Where im going with this? Art can be absolutely anything.
However, making it clear to the judges this is the case is challenging. I can see why people have taken low-risk options.

For instance, I would hardly call any work by Miley Sirus a work of art. Anything can be art, but only if done artfully.
Just because there aren't threads on music based gamemodes doesn't mean they aren't happening! (not mine btw)
I'm chugging away at mine and find me's gamemode, I really just need to work on the thief side now. I don't want to make a thread until it's got totally working gameplay, because form there's it's just the map and polish.
i guess mine counts as art... more "intrigued psychologist" art than anything else... the effect of the post processing on the players should be interesting... i don't think i'll make a thread just yet.
Cooperative gamemode :D Also I would love to see a gamemode revolving around a floating cube entity that will paint stuff when shot based on trace or something. But I have no idea what would make it a game rather than a cool thing :o
The contest is almost over, can't wait to try all of these out. Is there a server up that will run all of the gamemodes?
The contest is almost over, can't wait to try all of these out. Is there a server up that will run all of the gamemodes?
Yeah, I'll host a server at the end. Note that it's a server hosted on my own PC so it won't be online 24/7 :v:
Yeah, I'll host a server at the end. Note that it's a server hosted on my own PC so it won't be online 24/7 :v:
"Dlaor is credit to team!" Cool. I'm working on a better map for my gamemode before I put up a gmod.org d/l link. In the event its not done by Wednesday though, you can just use the SVN and the map I've got posted in my thread. Who are the judges this time around? Have we been told yet?
A Pictionary-type gamemode for this would be cool.
A Pictionary-type gamemode for this would be cool.
I had been thinking about using a mixture of derivatives and such to create a vector-based system for a pictionary-like gamemode/mini-gamemode. Sadly enough, I don't have enough knowledge on Calculus to do that, as I'm only beginning to get into the subject.
Almost done with judging everyone. Results will be up soon after I get my last set of results.
