Looks awesome! I'll be using this on my server. :D
:4chan:
Is there a jailing or weapon stripping system for those in Police group? Because it would be very, very bad for Dm'ers to run rampant unchecked. I'll love the tranquilizer.
What map were all those screenshots on?
Awesome. I can't wait ro lurk around the code and add stuff.
This is EPIC!
This is SPARTA!
There, I said it for you.
This reminds me of Taco Script, But cooler? (I love you Conna)
I Will Help you with this!
Is there a jailing or weapon stripping system for those in Police group? Because it would be very, very bad for Dm'ers to run rampant unchecked. I'll love the tranquilizer.
Definatly not - the Police group is just a default custom group set in the config. It means that it's made by default with no owner so that people cannot create the group as it will already exist.
Custom groups are just the same as the default group except it gives you a small community to work with. There are no other benefits.
This modification isn't like other role play modifications where you have a Police group with an arrest stick and such - I think that's silly. It just needs to be role played. If a player isn't role playing and going to jail then he shouldn't be playing RP. And you should just ban him.
The tranquilizer will help though, and be good for people who want to role play being Police. But of course, the Police officer will have to buy it.
Hey conna Will you add A Day/Night System?
A day and night system is just too hard. The ones you've seen in previous role play modifications probably just put a black rectangle on the screen and this is stupid. I don't want to do this as it is just too bad quality.
However I will be implementing a weather system in a few versions up. With rain, snow and thunder.
I've just had a test drive with this. It's great.
I hope to see some basic features in the next version such as:
1. Being able to see who owns the door
2. The ability to unown/sell doors
3. Key/door sharing with other players/your group
4. Being able to turn the radio/station on/off
And if possible, an inventory which might be useful for storing and combining items.
That's all for now.
Can't wait for the next version and the rest. :)
Okay added:
Turning radios on and off

Selling of doors for half price
Not added:
Being able to see who owns the door - too unrealistic
Is there a way to contact you Conna? PM me please
You join the group and someone in the group has to accept.
Oh and I made a mistake with the group system - here is what will be released tommorow:
Tranquilizer!

Fixed the group system, they wouldn't create

Fixed the help menu order, Basics is now first

Changed some config settings by default, less money for wages now because you should try and get your money via buying and selling

Some other minor changes

Look out for the update tommorow

Selling of doors for half your money back
Obviously I didn't give enough credit to melonbrew - I'll update that tommorow too.
I've just got to say this is inspired by the awesome melonscript, it's not a rip off. It's going to end up totally different - I just used a few good ideas which I gave credit for.
~Sniffles~ Melonbrew gets the credit. I see how it is!
It would be great to see some admins commands.
Give money or something
It's a good idea, but it wouldn't work for people running dedicated servers. It's ok for listen server, but some aspects of it such as lack of law enforcement utilities allows people to riot without having to worry that they will be arrested. On a listen server, people can ban, but not everyone actually knows how, and on dedicated servers is requires that an admin is on at all times which is nigh impossible.
A few aspects that get me though:
Food system: Not allowing people to eat their own food was just a horrible idea to begin with. I could go to the kitchen right now and fix an omelet and eat it.
Weapon creation system: While a good idea in practice, an idiot who is going to DM will get with other idiots and just abuse this so that they create a weapon for their friend who creates one for them.
General economy: You had a lot of ideas that were good in theory, but don't play out well in practice. The two system mentioned above are an example, but forcing people to buy and sell is another one of those ideas. People will be making minimum wage and only just be able to buy necessities. To sell, they have to be supplied with something to sell, which in turn implies someone else most likely bought that from someone, who bought that from someone, who bought that, in a near endless cycle. It's hard to buy something to sell when you make just enough to keep yourself alive.
Group creation: Another good idea, but poor in practice. Many times on normal RP servers, people will form together with friends in unofficial groups that disband soon to do stupid things, it happens all the time. The ability to create a group for a company is nice, but that opens the doors for idiots to create permanent groups where they can do it any time they are on, it basically gives them license to kill.
Like I said, you had many good ideas, but the actual implementation is a rather poor aspect.
Hint, don't play with idiots.

I disagree completely.
Eating your own food is terrible (In RP) it's like, oh I need health I'll spawn some foods. That's the chef job out of the window

Oh I want a weapon - I'll spawn one. That's the arms dealer out of the window

The groups creation is implemented well, one group per person and you must be accepted into it

The new version has a /kick and /ban command for admins, so you can get rid of people who refuse to role play
Sure, my MSN is connacookmsn@gmail.com
Well, this RP mod has some cool features (Such as cooking) But basiccaly lemme list them for you.
PROS:

Cooking system

Grouping system

Wallets

Radios
CONS:

Not being able to eat your own food.

'Police' Are civilians with a pretty nametag, making it hard to keep the peace with people who are role-playing run-away criminal serial murderers.

Need for criminals to turn themselves in. Whatever happens if they are role playing someone WHO DOESN'T TURN THEMSELVES IN?
SUGGESTIONS:

Able to use the weapons you spawn, but they cost MONEY.

Able to eat your own food. You keep going on about realism, not very realistic if I can't drink my own damned coffee.

Be able to take away criminals weapons while they imprisoned. "Oh no I got arrested. I'll just pull my gun and kill the guard!"
Sorry, but until I'm able to keep my server from becoming Crime-city, I'm sticking to DarkRP.
If people are doing that: "Oh no I got arrested. I'll just pull my gun and kill the guard!" Then they shouldn't be role playing, and should be banned.
This modification is for serious role players, not 5 year old kids that like to "dress up as a fox". Also the Police is just a default group - really as an example of how to show you how to add default groups. I refuse to make a Police system - as once someone is a police officer they generally arrest people for no reason.
Arrest sticks are stupid as they force people to role play in a certain way. There should be freedom to role play - but resisting arrest unfairly should result in a ban - that person obviously does not want to role play.
Making a Police system would also mean I would have to throw away the groups system - which sucks. I'd have to throw it away because it meant people would have to be in a group - or - be Police.
What's coming in the new version (What I've done):
Alchohol (Yes you do get drunk and dizzy and collapse, and you can mix drinks!)

Turning off and on radios!

Added the ability to call a function when a player eats/drinks something!

Cleaned up a lot of code!

Fixed the create group not working!

Added a /kick and /ban command for admins!

Added the tranquilizer, you shoot it, and it takes 5 seconds before you can shoot enough. If hit by the tranquilizer you become a ragdoll for a certain time - but you go dizzy first then blackout!

Added the ability to sell doors for half price!

Added default traders group!
I just figured I'd throw in a couple comments after playing with it a little bit:
I must have missed the command for noclip, I was trying to combine this with a server that does a lot of construction, but the lack of noclip means a lot of productivity wasted in constructing scaffolds.
I was thinking about a way to expand the radio idea a little bit and then it occured to me that it would be sort of interesting if a person could carry a portable radio, as an example, there could be a taxi service and the base finds a client, so the client uses the radio and finds the driver eating at a diner, he still gets the message.
I was also going to comment that I like how you give the people on the server more freedoms to really role-play. (how many police in real life use tranq guns on a running suspect?) I was wondering if it were possible to implement character attributes as a way to flesh it out a little more and really give the players a chance to personalize.
You wouldn't need a lot of them, just enough to make one player a little different from another player. When you first sign in it asks you to pick your stats and then derives things from it, examples:
STENGTH - Determines melee damage, jump height
DEXTERITY - Player defense ("dodge"), jumping height, accuracy with firearms
ENDURANCE - Determines hit points, damage reduction, "tranq" time
INT - Controls "how much" you can do like creating weapons, food, etc.
WISDOM - Determines how much things cost, how easily you make money
CHARISMA - Controls how far you yell/local talk, advertising effectiveness
Each stat would be given a 0 to 5 rating. 5 being epic and 0 being missing, all players would start at 1 and have say 10 points to add to the stats, so a police character would focus mostly on the physical attributes and the craft character would focus on the mental ones.
Just an idea.
Conna, don't be playing. You know you want that title to say Conna Created Roleplay Mod. ;)
The thing is though, that turns it into an RPG. Which it isn't.
RP and RPG are two different things.
Day/Night is not that hard, it just involves playing with some of the ent:fire stuff. AndyV has an example script he put on irc one day, there are some minor issues I think but it is better than nothing. Also you could use color mod to achieve a day/night kind of atmosphere though the shadows go all multi-coloured and it also works inside.
I have another question, if you are the server arms dealer and you can't use your own weapon crates how do you get guns?
Anyway good work, though until this supports sqlite or mysql I doubt I will use it on a dedicated server, I need the easy web access mysql gives. I will run it on my test server for a bit though.
SQLite is difficult to implement tables in tables.
If i am admin on my server how do i set money for me to have a lot of money?
There is no command to set money. What is the point in role playing if you just set your money up.
Anyway, news:
I made the Police group by default have the police model, have an AR2 and a Tranquilizer and can only have 5 players on it at any one time. It also doesn't save players so if you are on police group and you leave - you'll not be Police when you come back.
I'm not sure I like this system - as you can either be in a group of be police.
"SQLite is difficult to implement tables in tables."
No not at all.
You should at least look into the day/night ;)
does it save money? please give me an answer quickly I am making a very nice version of yours, not to be released though...
It saves everything.
