Type into the console cl_showfps 1 and in the corner it should have a number, tell us what that is on average (it should change alot, but if it's anything 60+ you should be ok).
ok well i will do the cl_showfps 1 thing right now...hold on [editline]12:38AM[/editline] ok well i did that and when i stay still my fps is well over 200 then drops way down VERY quickly (not even a second,to im not sure how much probably 60 or so) then if i move or turn around it has good FPS for not even a second then drops down to about 10-20 fps (pretty much REALLY big lag spikes, kind of)
Same problem I am having. The fps fluctuates from 20-70 constantly causing a horrible lag making the game unplayable. This is not due to my hardware nor internet but something to do with the game that I am unaware of. It would seem like the game is not undated enough for windows 7.
yay finally somebody else with the same problem lol,but anyways some of my friends have windows 7 and it works fine
Right click garrysmod -> properties -> set launch option -> copy and paste in "-dxlevel 90" no quotes. If it doesn't work try doing 80 instead of 90.

I think your GPU might be dying. [editline]02:33AM[/editline]
Same problem I am having. I just tried single player and that works fine. The only time I seem to have problems is when I am playing on any multiplayer server.
Its not win 7 im running it on a laptop that cant play cod 4 right. And gmod is very smooth
I have windows 7 fukken HOME edition and it works fine. I think it's your GPU, just a hunch
I have windows 7 fukken HOME edition and it works fine. I think it's your GPU, just a hunch
I can personally run every other game I own on high everything. It's not my hardware.
yeah devined i have the same problem, singleplayer works perferctly fine, but multiplayer doesnt
GMod works fine on my laptop (such as it is...) Multiplayer works fine for me.
Right at this moment I am playing GMod 10 on Windows 7 Home Premium, with a shitty 2.66 ghz dual core and 2gb of ram. I have at least 1800 props on screen, wind is right up, I fucked with the gravity, and everything is on full settings. I'm getting 50+ frames per second. ok well i just did the system restore thing and it helped the lag some, but it still lags a bit every about 1-3 seconds or something
ok well i just did the system restore thing and it helped the lag some, but it still lags a bit every about 1-3 seconds or something
Is the system restore deleting your gmod folder? If it is that didn't work for me.
no its not,i still have all my stuff, (singleplay stuff, multiplayer stuff that i downloaded from the servers etc)

Not your computer -> servers.
and you are wrong about that. The ping being a test of speed, would travel from the computer through the router and then to the server. Think about it this way, if your using wifi and you have a poor signal your not going to have the same ping as with a strong signal. dr.bean, All of this problem has nothing to do with your hardware. People arn't very smart about debugging this problem. If you have no lag in singleplayer then it wouldn't be a hardware problem with your computer. You are having some sort of connection issue. Are you running through a router? Are you using wireless? If so how many people are on the router? (Are you in a dorm or something) If you have access to your router try pluging your computer directly to your modem and see if the problem persists. Also run another speed test if you do that. If so, maybe your just joining a bad server. What state are you in and what location is the server you are experiencing this problem on? Try looking at all the servers and see what their pings say. Looking at your speed test it seems maybe you chose the wrong location, as it took so long to travel. There seems to be something that is routing your internet down a long path, maybe call your ISP and tell them about your Latency problems.
Ok one of your problems is that you have very little ram, i think that is 2GB right there. My old computer had 1.89GB and it had about the same problem. I got a new computer not too long ago that has windows 7 and it works just fine because it has 8GB of RAM , one thing i need to know though, what is your video card?
It's actually 2GiB.

Im running Win7, 6GB Ram, 512MB GPU, Quad Core, It works completely fine, it could be an outdated addon.
your internet connection is obviously the problem, however 6mbps download, and 3mbps upload, is plenty of bandwidth, are you running a bittorent program in the background or is anyone else using your internet?? possibly your neighbour over your wireless????
