a few hours after buying the server, my server went down and I was unable to restart/turn it on at all. sent a ticket, and hours later, they tell me the datacenter in New York is experiencing "issues", meanwhile, gmod breaks

Holy shit, that's a free server? Tbh it makes me feel kinda shitty to see that, seeing as I'm paying $17 a month for 16 slots. I would never be able to afford a 64 slot server with my current state of unemployment, and here someone has a free one from the same host. Sure there's a good reason for it (that I completely agree with) but regardless, it still gives me a sour feeling in the pit of my stomach.
With that said, when I upgraded to 16 slots, elpishost waived the additional cost of the extra slots for this month. That surprised me, and allowed me to buy a domain name instead with my limited funds.

Yup. And I agree with you. If/when you meet the requirements outlined in the OP for a free server I'd be more then happy to mark your server as free.

I've been a member of Facepunch for a while now - I spent a great deal of time here when I was a teenager and wanted to give back to the community. I'd honestly make the post limit over 500, but I know from experience that some people like to lurk instead of post and I want to make sure everyone has a fair chance at a server.
On the other hand, $17 for a 16 slot server isn't that bad either when you consider that I don't chuck hundreds of servers onto the same box and all of them are on the latest hardware (E3-1230 V2/etc) and will likely perform better then most hosts simply because of the lack of overloading/high performance CPU's and quality network.

Yeah I'm very happy with my server, I dare anyone to find a better deal. But somehow I don't think I'll be approaching the required post count for a free one any time soon. Been playing gmod for about seven years and I never post on the forums because it is (or was) so easy to get banned. But yeah thanks for helping the community like this, you have no idea how much I wish I could do as much for this awesome game as you're doing for it. I mean, realistically, I've been playing off and on for quite a while and it's only been very recently that I've seen such a large amount of high slot servers. 32 used to be high... I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the game is actually growing because of your free servers, and even without one myself, for that I thank you.

Forget the free servers you are giving away and lets focus on buisness. You are hosting with limestone and your prices just don't add up to their reseller discount. I thought maybe you where a relative(or something) of one of the owners and get a huge discount but then I see you bought kayako so you must be making money. I just don't get it. Teach me your ways.

CPU is a tad high but that's to be expected when you have 56 players on a 66 tick server instead of a 33 tick server.
