I was thinking about getting a test server from this thread some time in the future, but it is against the rules. However if I kept the server publicly open as a DM server while the SWEPS are being tested on there would that be OK?

If you need a test server can you pay for it instead? I can do a reduced rate if you're not intending on using it for anything other then testing (and you keep it passworded).

In that case, you should download it and play around with it on single player or a lan server first so you have an understanding and feel for it.

That's actually an interesting service concept, offering test servers at reduced rates but with limitations on like player-count or usage or something to that effect. It could be quite useful for developers looking to test things on a hosted server if reasonably priced.

No what I meant was if I kept the server publicly available for anyone and allowed people to come and DM/build like a regular sandbox while simultaneously letting the public test the SWEPs as they are developed. Would that be OK? I'm not asking for it now and I'm not even certain if we'll need it, but you know...

I think the point is Darksoul started giving away free servers to allow people to try to build their own game community, hence why free servers are only kept up if they are active. If you're just using it primarily for testing and not planning to seek out activity from players it kind-of defeats the purpose...
That said, if your goal was in fact to get a server and keep it populated, I doubt Darksoul cares if you also happen to test SWEPs on it too.

Well the thing is that during good ol Gmod 10 we were dev'ing this same SWEP pack. The coder actually would periodically put up a listen server for me to join; however eventually he opened it up to a wider audience and we had a whole bunch of buddies (peaking at 8-10 at any given moment) from come on and fight with the SWEPS and the server started feeling like an actual server. However the coder frequently had to shut it down, it being a listen server. We were always eager to come on because it was and still is the only multiplayer environment we could ever test the weapons in.
But yea that's what I'm going at. I want the server to be a gm_bigcity shootout while at the same time letting us test the SWEPs in an MP environment
