Those materials, what have you done? D:
I would start by placing the ropes and hydraulics and ball sockets to the center of mass of your wheels using a working copy of precision alignment. Also, I don't know what constants and dampings most people use on their contraptions, but 2m damping and 3k constant for those weights sounds bat shit crazy. My damping pretty much never exceeds 5-10% of what my constant is, and 3k for constant is ridiculously low for those weights.
Are you sure you didn't get the constant and damping mixed up? For those weights, I would use a constant of around 40k to start with, then increase or decrease until I get the stiffness I want. For damping, I would probably start at 750, if it doesn't spazz with those constants, increase it, if it does, I would try 500.
Wow, thanks for the quick reply :)
The reason I used those dampings and constants is because out of the 4 tutorials I watched that is what they used (around the millions anyway), but I will be sure now to try those values. As for placing the ropes etc in the center of mass on the wheels, I am already doing that with smartsnap, but now I assume you mean in the actual center of the wheel.
So as for Precision Alignment, I thought that wasn't working in GM13...I just tried it and it actually crashed gmod through a spam of nil funcitons. Maybe I can fix it, but do you know if there is a newer version out there already that works? I got mine from here
Thats some serious power, but how did you stop your wheels going crazy at that speed? All suspensions I have tried for my 4x4 have failed -The tyres basically loose their ability to stay upright, as if the axis/ball sockets gives way. Here is what I have tried (click for MUCH bigger picture):
*pic*
Damping is 2m and constant is 3k on all wire hydraulics. Weight of wheels are 36, hubs (on left design) are 96 and chassis and steering piece are 288. Do you, or anyone, know what noobish, first post, probably easily solveable error I have made?
As monkey pointed out, having constraints in the center of the wheels would help quite a bit. Personally I would recommend using the non-hub version, with heavier wheels (maybe 100-150kg) that have constraints in the middle. Also, you should be OK making the steering prop the same weight as a wheel (maybe up to 2x weight if needed).
For my vehicle, I have fairly long (64 unit) hydros. Wheels are 75kg each, and the chassis prop is 300kg. The front hydros are 7500 constant, 750 damping; the rear, where most of the weight is, has 17500 constant and 1750 damping. I'm not sure how having short hydros, like on your vehicle, would affect the damping (if at all), but if it gets spazzy, just drop the damping until it's stable.

Ok cool. I'll be sure to try that out as soon as I fix Wenlis tools enough to use Precision Alignment (No, I won't upload, this is for myself only. Just incase Wenlis is wondering).
I only noticed spazziness with constant values of over 6000. My engine and transmission system weighs in around 500 (dam those I4s are heavy) so I needed a really high constant. Anyway, Ill try non-hub one again with center connections. Cant wait to off road.
Which reminds me, What map was that? :P

Cool, thanks. I apologise for being so late to reply, I am doing homework at the same time here.
Gonna start working on a truck/car body soon. Pics to come.

Progress on my Land Rover 110. No suspension for it at the moment, but as soon as i can get a working version of PA, will work on a solid axle setup for it.

FINALLY! Another Land Rover fan. That looks epic so far, I cant wait to see how you do the interior if you do it. Where dd you get those curved props though?
My Lightweight probably isnt going to look half as good :P I haven't built a precision model (Or a successful suspension at that, need PA) as of yet.

*brofist* Love Landrovers. I've wanted a Disco irl since I turned 16. :D The props I used to make this is from SProps. The svn is in OP I believe.

My dad has about a bookshelf of land rover owner magazines, lots of which I have read. He sold his old Lightweight before I was born and then after his disco 2k. I'm now 15, but recently he got a Lightweight as a project (ie needs restoration).
Thanks for the info on the props btw. I am using SProps too atm, but never bothered to look through the contents. I'm also trying to get PA to work (I know a lot of general LUA, but not Gmod LUA), if I have any success I'll PM you it.

What I've got done so far, don't know what to do as far as the roof goes...

And the interior, still a WIP.
it looks lovely.
That is amazing. Lovin' the interior so far. I hate asking these newbie questions, I really do...but did the jalopy seats work for you by default? Since GMOD 13 I'm getting the missing texture texture on them, no idea why. They are the most suitable seat there is, and I am NOT using jeep seats on a Landy.

You either do not have HL2 EP2 or it has unmounted since the textures come from Ep2 while the model is not from Ep2, the model is custom to gmod.

A semi-finished body, stil some things i want to add, i.e. badges, winches, more lights, maybe better mudflaps. Otherwise I'm very happy with the way this turned out.
and m1cr0man, the seats may or may not require episode 2 of half-life 2. If you do have that game, start it at least once to get the textures working. you have to have the game installed to use the textures, models, npcs etc.

All of these picts deserve a "winner". I was going to suggest adding windows to the back instead of just the plain back, but you did that and it looks amazing. You have done it soo accurately too, which is nice. I really like the grill for example. If you are adding extra lights, lamps ontop might look cool. Antenna looks good too. Heh, you should make it wave XP that would just be OCD.
Make sure it drives like a Landy when you get that far though :) Its such a nice model and deserves to off road like one.
Thanks for the fix aswell btw. I have ep2 but haven't launched it in ages.
[t]http://gamerexit.com/game-images/dayz/LandRover.jpg[/t] this was my initial inspiration :P i had one of those for the longest time and loved it until i flipped it and had to nade it before a hacker got to it.
The antenna will have a flag on it and wave when im done :>
Once I get a working copy of PA that has constraints, I will make the suspension.
And thanks for rating my stuff winner lol really appreciate that. :D

Cool, yeah. You did an excellent job replicating that one. although dont forget the bullet absorber/tyre, might save your life :P
So here's my next big project:
Phalanx air defense / missile interception system.

The model is pretty much done, but i'm still scratching my head over an auto-tracking mode with target leading.

Now THAT is pretty cool. I love seeing anti-air turrets.
Clan week in APB, yall probably won't see me for a week lol
Since Dupe2 broke my last Landrover save
I brought up the ol' rally car save and worked on that. VERY happy with the way it turned out. The color is absolutely gorgeous.

Love you work! Looks great !
(p.s what is this map by the way?)

I'm assuming that's a wire turret? If so, you wont have to do any kind of target leading as the bullets are hitscan (the effect has a delay, but the actual projectile hits instantly) - it would just be a matter of pointing the gun at the target.
However, if he switches to ACF, then he has to use ballistic models, possibly radians and arcs since he has to use lots of maths to account for projectile speed, object speed, projectile drop etc.

It does use a wire turret on this version, but i'm planning on using ACF/pewpew bullets. Also the turret doesn't turn fast enough to keep a fast target in its sight at all times, so i have to compensate for that as well.
WIP of a tank i am working on. Got inspired playing: "world of Tanks". It's the russian KV-1.
