Is there a way to reduce visclip flicker? Mine flickers so badly that it looks like it's gonna break apart :(
Like I don't want to sound like a prick, but honestly I wouldn't use visclip to build with for high prop contraptions. I saw your plane thingy, and if you don't spawn it before people join it looks fine... I liked Visclip in GMod12 but GMod13 it's kinda sucky to use right now. Rate me boxes please.
I did.
Visclip's great for saving prop use. That way you don't HAVE to build high prop. My stuff looks (I think) decent, if not spectacular, but the propcounts are usually comically low. When it comes to propcount there's a distinct point of diminishing return anyway...I cringe when I see 500 prop contraptions because they never justify the propcount. The difference between 150 and 500 props in looks is a small one, while the difficulty involved diminishes past a certain point with 99.9% of stuff.
My visclip doesn't flicker. :>

My visclip doesn't flicker. :>
I guess some people like using 500,000,000 props to make their stuff. And then there's people like us who use as little as possible to make them look alright. I try to keep my stuff low prop, betwen 150 and 250 most of the time. ( the rally muscle car was an exception, 280 ) There's times when I can justify a little visclip in the wheel wells, or on the roof or something. Again, it's all personal preference, I myself find it easier not to use visclip as much on my cars/trucks, sounds dumb but I build better without it.

If you consider ~50 props to be comically low, I build with around 20
I love me vanilla shapes
And then there is 90% of everyone else who never 'build' anything other than phx plates with four wheels and an acf engine attached to it.
"Functional looknig"
It's all about the law of diminishing returns; eventually you'll reach a point where the time and effort you're putting into your work (whether it be accuracy, detail, etc) impacts the final product less and less until it's just not worth your time to work at it any more.

In other news, those of you who play on my server be advised that it's migrating to a new address effective January 1, 2013. [sp]69.162.102.69:27015[/sp]
VisClip is such a pain in the ass at points to work with. I really wish it was something like the clipping tool from Hammer. Select points, creates line, cut. Would streamline workflow as well.

As opposed to shift clicking a plane in which you would like to clip and right clicking the excess?
I was bored. So i selected half of my car and pasted it behind it

It needs more wheels!
I'm working on what will probably be my best model so far.
I fucking love the T28 Super Heavy tank.

That's a complaint I have too. Could work on streamlining visclip after I finish that ACF menu I was working on if anyone's interested. (haven't worked on that for half a month because of christmas holiday, it ain't dead)
T28 Super Heavy Tank. This really is my favourite model of al, but that might just be because I have an incredible love for the T28...
I'll make it function tomorrow.

OH MY SNAIL, I FUCKING LOVE THAT.
Technically it was redesignated the T95 gun motor carriage but pedantry aside
I love it. Now come fight my King Tiger.
I'd love to, there's just one major problem, the server I'm always on is sort of limited in some ways, so no ACF. :\

Posting for Karb, he's doing up my Switchblade in stock color, and might I say that it's turning out quite well.
My red truck is above this post too :D almost done with that. Thanks Whitesinner for taking that pic with my truck in it lol.

Please do so, it's not a bad tool, it's just a pain in the ass most of the time, and could be a lot simpler.

Fucking hell. I really miss Naval Play, and GCombat08.
The lack of contraption and combat gamemodes is depressing. Sandbox just feels like building replicas over combatting foes.
ACF got the job done towards the end of G12. I never liked GCombat, I felt that there was far too much splash involved with the cannons.
The lack of contraption and combat gamemodes is depressing.
I agree. But I think that combat at times can get annoying. Not because of the combat itself, but because of people like me who find loopholes in the rules (Yes, I know I shouldn't, but I find it fun). Or others who blatantly ignore them.
It's also not fun driving around your jeep with a mounted 50mm MG and then being blasted to space by a tank with a huge howitzer.
I never used engines, but I was strict with the rules otherwise. I found that once ACF got released to the public, there were less and less rules being enforced until eurrgghhh.
The reason I didn't like engines were the fact that for normal fighting, everything was fine up until said moment when ACF went public. More and more people broke the long-standing rules for mobility, and engines went from being a fun little quirk with three tiny engines that couldn't power anything without using ten of them, to being the norm for combat.
I miss the older days of ACF2, when there was a clear set of rules and definitions, and you weren't forced to restrict your stuff to engines. It allowed for more variety in combat; you saw more mech fights, helicopter fights, and things-that-do-not-have-name fights. It was just a lot more interesting in my opinion.
As someone who wants to begin making addons for Gmod, where should I start out?
I mean like models and tools. I have a very limited knowledge of Blender, Javascript, Python, but that's about it.
This thread is really helpful/inspiring and I'd really like to start contributing, but I always get floppy front wheels on my cars. I just uploaded this to explain what I'm talking about, please let me know if anyone has a solution. I know I can mess with the steering master weight but if it's as heavy/heavier than the base then it will flop as well. (wheels are makespherical)

I used to have this problem too. One of my friends pointed out a way to fix it. Just rotate the wheels 45 degrees or so around the current constraint axis. Then adv ball-socket them again. This usually stops any wobble for me.

In my personal opinion, GCombat 08 with Ammo Crates was the shit.
Then again, this was the days of when everything was gate controlled, and making a simple mouse-aimed turret was considered 'Wire Guru' knowledge.

Try adv ballsocket -180 180 -0.01 0.01 -45 45 (with free movement) on the base prop to the steering wheels. this makes the as strong as the rear wheels but they are also able to steer.
