There are exploits to make youeself admin or server owner on sandbox.
[editline]9th July 2013[/editline]
If you have aimbot on sandbox... it's still cheating. If they wanted your hacks to run they would just allow cslua?
Anyone who knows how to do that, if you aren't just bullshitting or are misinformed about this supposed exploit's existence, wouldn't need to worry about allowcslua.
If you have aimbot on sandbox... it's still cheating. If they wanted your hacks to run they would just allow cslua?
Oh god, you have an aimbot, if you build a car now, we'll be doomed!
Testing for exploits in the server.
As I said, it's still cheating, but for good reasons.
Yeah, and the one case where that ACTUALLY happened the guy was unbanned.
And we're the community, the people who make gamemodes and addons for his game.
If I host a sandbox gamemode, then a banlist of "cheaters and hackers" isn't useful at all. I'd rather turn it off to get more players. Same goes for racing games, RTS gamemodes, every gamemode that's not about shooting eachother.
I understand that Garry wants to help the TTT gamemode, but TTT isn't the only thing around. Theres more than shooters in Garrysmod.
And Garry, if you really think that GAC needs no cvar, then I'd like you to ask Valve why they made a cvar for VAC.
I'm not arguing as a cheater here, I'm arguing as a server host.
Why do you think I am banning cheaters? Do you think it's to harm GMod? Do you think it's to reduce the number of players?
Why do you think I am banning cheaters? Do you think it's to harm GMod? Do you think it's to reduce the number of players?
I think you had good intentions but implemented them poorly. Forcing server owners to use your banlist is as bad an idea as letting people play GMod with pirated copies.
What harm does adding a convar do? Cheaters will still be banned from most servers, but it also gives the server owner control over their server.

I don't think any of us have a problem with you banning people, everyone just wants you to make servers have the option of opting out of your global ban list.
[editline]9th July 2013[/editline]
ninja'd by guy above me ;_;
So is it you or some of your friends you want to be able to play on your servers?
You got banned, just change accounts and don't fuck up again.

As far as I can understand, you're banning them to make it easier on the casual hosters.
I understand that you want to make Gmod a better place, and I support your whole idea of GAC.
However, I'd like to have an option to disable it, because on some gamemodes it's just wierd denying people, while there's nothing to achieve for them if they do it again in this server.
I really don't care if someone hacked in a TTT server, and then joins my sandbox server. There's nothing to get from doing so, so I don't see an issue in the person joining.
If I host a TTT server, I'd gladly accept your GAC. It's just that I host more then 1 gamemode, and I dont always care about hackers. And I dont think I'm the only one feeling like this.
Anyhow, to change the subject a bit: GAC bans people a few weeks(as example) after a person cheated on my server and terrorized the players. Then aslong he's on my TTT server, he's going to ruin the gameplay.
Some of us here, made anti cheats, and tested them through the same way people banned by GAC do.
Could you tell me a way to test my own anti cheat, to ban that person off my server the moment he starts enjoying himself?
I know we can allow cl lua, however trying to inject scripts and stuff like that is alot better for pen-testing.
Can we do this on some way? Or do we need to hope that our anti cheats, not fully tested, work agenst these things?

If you allow hackers on your server then they aren't really punished for their actions... which is the whole point of global bans.

You cheat on a FPS gamemode, you may now no longer play FPS gamemodes.
You can only enjoy sandbox and other non FPS gamemodes.
How is this not being punished?
It's not a harsh enough punishment. They cheated - they're banned. Those are the breaks.
In that case, is there any possibility that you could add something that instantly kicks a new player from the server when he's detected? Then you protect us at on long term, and at short term?
Saves us getting banned for trying to get past our own made anticheat to kick them instantly.
if you want to hide the fact that they're detected, just throw a random srcds error message at them.

Cheaters don't have the right to play the game, and I'm fine with that.

Shit, nevermind. Dumb idea
Is it ironic that every disagree/dumb I get rated is by someone who is banned?

I'm not banned
I'm not banned
Oh, so you just like playing with hackers? Even though someone released something that allows hackers on your server, your still complaining?

Testing my own anticheat makes me a hacker?
So Garry are you doing the appeals at all?
I was making an anti-cheat and broke down the source of some cheats and tried abyss to see how it forced the cvar. I ended up banned of course and sent an email already but i don't expect you'd see it through 1499 others. Anyways I already bought a new copy but if you had the time I'd love if you could unban my primary, thanks.
I'm just gonna leave this here:
Testing my own anticheat makes me a hacker?
No, but that wasn't what you where doing.
If I joined a random server, and asked the owner if I could run a bunnyhop script, he would probably think it's fine. I doubt, however, he would take the trouble to install my script on the server for me. No one thought you would be checking cvar values, so I understand why the bhopper might have decided to force allowcslua.
Bhop server owner, and I'd say no and probably ban you as soon as I suspected you cheating.
No, but that wasn't what you where doing.
Yeah just ignore that Frost dude, he forgot that you have an omniscient view of the circumstances behind each person's ban.
Bhop server owner, and I'd say no and probably ban you as soon as I suspected you cheating.
No shit you wouldn't allow it, using bhop scripts on a bhop server is probably the one instance in which using said script would be considered cheating.
No, but that wasn't what you where doing.
It's currently in use on two servers, including one posted earlier. It absolutely was what I was doing.
Yeah just ignore that Frost dude, he forgot that you have an omniscient view of the circumstances behind each person's ban.
He'd have to be pretty dumb because if you email Garry telling him that with proof it was your own server you where banned on you'd get unbanned.
Garry already unbanned a few people for that.
Is it ironic that every disagree/dumb I get rated is by someone who is banned?
I'm not banned. I just disagree with people who are anti-convar.
I just think server owners such as myself should have a choice over who is banned from their server. If I wanted Garry to forcefully ban IDs from my servers I'd give him my RCON password.
He'd have to be pretty dumb because if you email Garry telling him that with proof it was your own server you where banned on you'd get unbanned.
I did. I haven't been unbanned, though.
Testing my own anticheat makes me a hacker?
No but it makes you pretty damn suspicious
I did. I haven't been unbanned, though.
Take this into consideration, how many of those with the subject relating to bans were by the same person?
I'm not banned. I just disagree with people who are anti-convar.

We already decide who can and can't play on your server via Steam. The cheaters have had their multiplayer rights removed - they're not banned from your server - they're banned from multiplayer.
