i must have missed the memory editing api on the gmod wiki.
"doing your own thing" would apply to your own server, not someone elses.

On topic: One of my friends told me about this, but I never knew it would get this far. Hopefully people have learned from their mistakes and don't do the same thing again.
just because the server is a sandbox style game doesnt mean that the unauthorized access of a server to place executable files all over someone's C drive is legitimate. if that were the case, there would never be a "security" fix released (which we all know gmod is in dire need of at any point in time). having been running my own server for some time i know there have been a ton of ways someone could use a sandbox server to mess with other players (ie durgzmod+ulx rcon exploit). most server owners don't know how to properly secure their server and most of them probably can't because of the way their hosting is done (ie can't set write permissions, etc).
since garry does try to fix security flaws we'll assume its because he doesn't want them regardless of the game being "sandbox" which goes against your logic of "all is fair in sandbox" (ie using cheats, hacks, exploits, tricks, glitches, etc).
vagina = server
penis = player
forced non consensual intercourse (that easier for you Myr?) = hacks, exploits, tricks, glitches, etc

Garry doesn't fix these exploits, he can't. It's up to valve to do so, however he patches them for the general interest of players, not because he absolutely has to. There's no legal clause stating that.
Best read something properly before you start throwing crap around.

Again, bad reading from your side. You need to learn to directly approach the topic at hand and not tip-toe around it. The entire time I've kept to what I've said instead of brash statements. No, I'm not telling you there's never been an issue whatseoever with Garry's code, however this exploit is to do with the acutal engine, not Gmod. This exploit has existed for years (unknowingly I may add) in all Source based games.
I am practising what I preach. I could consider your server to be my playground, however I don't.

ok, no tip toeing. hacking and exploiting is a crime, regardless of what you think of sandbox mode. I live in California so that would be "California Penal Code § 502". however if you were in newcastle upon tyne, that would fall under somethign like "Computer Misuse Act 1990".

The computer misuse act is dumb. Minimum £2000 fine if you get caught [b]signing in on a friend's account[/b], or anything even less serious than that. Plus your PC gets confiscated. All because when they wrote the law they considered "Computer misuse" to be gaining peoples' bank details.
If you knew English law, then you would know that only 3 people have ever been successfuly prosecuted under it, because it's such a shitty law.
