That's actually great for smaller servers. In our case, my community is registered as a legal Canadian company since I have various fees I need to pay (developer(s), accountant, lawyer, taxes, various community giveaways, etc.)
But yeah, that definitely solves the issue for certain communities.
do you have to pay taxes for the donations you make on LP?
Paypal decided to charge both my credit & debit card when I made a fairly large purchase a while ago. I didn't want to pay $2,000 for $1,000 of product, so I had my bank decline when the debit charge went through. Paypal "closed" (banned) my account and put all the blame on me when I attempted to call and explain.
I would never sign up for an account with them again, but I understand why they are a pretty much universally accepted standard. I continue to use them without an account if it's the only option.
Payment Rankings
1. Paypal - For accepting payments, it just works. I don't like it, but I can't argue with the market (and mind) share and ease of use
2. NFO's "Coffer" service - If you aren't in it for profit, this is an excellent way to accept payments
3. Google Checkout
4. Amazon Payments
5. (Bit/Lite)coin
