Dont be so sure. Ive had some informative lessons about some programs from some pirates who I accidentally met ingame. Some cracks apparently even let you play on almost any servers. Then theres those damn "Non steam" garrysmod servers being hosted and they actually advertise that in their name/tags.

I used MalewareByte's Anti-Maleware to remove it. That thing was such a bitch to remove manually I nearly tossed the monitor out of my window.

Malware: I know that virus, I saw it once on a public computer and once on mine. If you downloaded it, you need to try and find some pretty GOOD antivirus to get rid of it. I found out that things like Malwarebytes Antivirus and all those other things don't work (hint, look for the 100% guarantee on most of them)
EDIT: I can't remember if malwarebytes is malware, I got rid of my old PC a year ago. (I think it helped, but I can't remember whether it got rid of the viruses I had at all)
Also, good on your friend to actually buy it.

Malwarebytes isn't a virus. It also can remove the fake defender virus. At least, it did for me.
Malwarebytes Antimalware is a genius program. Gets rid of virii and shit much better than most other ones.
