Warmelons :)
on mapping, how big can the maps be?, cause all the rts type maps I've seen are really small. and how small are the buildings/umelons? like x16 smaller x32 smaller?
A map that is the average size for population would probably be about the size of the grass area on gm_construct. I've got the original population map in my maps folder, and it's about that size. Maybe slightly bigger.
The original map made by maw is too big really. Games would probably last ~2 hours, which is too long since it locks up game servers for too much time. I'll upload the vmf of the map you see in the screenshots in a while, as well as a basic guide on what entities etc you need.
How long until a playable release?? Will you be releasing it or just keeping it in a secret 'lil group? If so could I join said group?
Once it's in a playable state and linked with the lobby, I'll set it up for beta testing. It will be a private beta testing, consisting of donators and admins of the lobby - if I need more people, I'll post an app form here. Beta testing will last as long as it needs to in order for me to iron out all the bugs. Then it will go public. All in all, I can't really give any sort of timeframe since I don't want to bind myself to times and I have exams and coursework todo too.
When you lot have finished this, I have a question, will this be private or public? I know what I am hoping for, if this ever gets finished.
Dude, this reminds me back when junk wars was made and sassafrass stole it to make the sass rts game.
I'd be interested in doing some mapping for this project, however I need some information relevant to the gamemode before I can start. How big are the models (preferrably in HU)? How high of an incline can they climb? Can you list any special entities that might be neccecary to create the map? Is AoC horizontal? or is a sphere? There are others, but those are the big ones I have.
Just a suggestion... You should possibly make a gamemode on this gamemode called, "Open World" which allows the player to basically play on a giant map ,and build towns on where ever. This wouldn't be a locked server ,and the players can form alliances ,and begin small wars with other alliances ,and do d-day landings and shit on their islands.
or you could just use the super giant 2 hour map :P

Sort of like the browser game Tribal Wars, but for GMod instead. But the truth is, I don't have the time nor the motivation for such a project and I can foresee a fair few source limits being hit without doing something massively complex like rewriting source ents/networking.
Wheres the server for this? it seems dead to me :C
