Hello! First of all I want to excuse my English. (mark this as dumb and you will slowly drown to death next time you go for a swim) This is serious, giving IP for thoose who are keen to check out the server. Server specs. System Manufacturer: Dell Inc. System Model: PowerEdge 2900 BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 2.7.0 Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5120 @ 1.86GHz (4 CPUs), ~1.9GHz Memory: 4096MB RAM Available OS Memory: 4090MB RAM (Might upgrade ram) There are 2 CPUS. 4-5 years ago, i remember buying Garry's mod. Playing around, having fun at my favorite gamemode darkrp. I still love it. In 2011 I bought a Dell PowerEdge server cheap and was about to launch a darkrp server, but later the same year I got a condition making me unable to play games for a while, and after 2 years of struggle i woke up to Garry's Mod 13. High pitched kids running around prop killing and screaming "admin, admin he rdmed me." and from that day, mature gameplay on darkrp was gone. My dream is to bring back the golden era of Darkrp, which is probably gone forever, but I will still give it a Try. The last week I turned on the the chopper "server" 85.db. So I had to make a custom made cabinet for it with fans, which I think was pretty successful. So, with my limited knowledge of Lua I started on this mission. And here I am today with my broken English. The server is working fine, I have jobs, TDM cars and so on, but I find it hard working on this project all by myself and i seek adventurers. You will have no salary, as the satisfaction of successes will be more than enough. You will not be the only one coding, most of the work is already done by great scripters out there that made amazing free addons, and for those addons we can't find Il buy from coderhire. We split the work 50/50. I seek a person who. - Believes in the return of Darkrp as a good gamemode. - Speaks better English than me. - Knows how to set up a Darkrp server. - Basic Lua (same level as me, or better is always a plus) - Mature and patient person. - Is a good admin. - Familiar with Windows 2008 and it's remote controlling functions. - 1+ hours being admin ( If people even join the server ) Also, a HUGE plus if you actually are capable to attract players to the server. But remember that this is a project to get DarkRP back on the right track and making a mature player base. I don't expect anyone to answer this thread, i may even get laughed at or banned. But it's a sacrifice IM willing to make. So if you are keen to join an adventure...
lol 'Dark-RP project'. is this another custom unique DarkRP filled to the brink with coderhire addons?
lol 'Dark-RP project'. is this another custom unique DarkRP filled to the brink with coderhire addons?
Project, because it is a project and if not the goals are achieved in 3-4 months time it will be shut down and the server will be sold. It is a nice way to get some free practice and learning on a physical server. Also i just discovered coderhire. I don't see anything wrong with having a server filled up with addons from coderhire since alot of the addons from there are very well made. But that isn't the point, the point is learning and bringing back DarkRP the way we want it to be. With basic addons.
i must say that, though unfortunately I don't have time to help this guy out myself, his post is one of the more mature ones I've seen and he doesn't seem to be asking for someone to do all the work, he is actually asking for a partner with the same level of experience as himself. I think it sounds like a pretty good opportunity for someone new to coding (at least compared to most of the people who post on here)
oh god
oh god
What?
this has terrible written all over it, that's what. I feel bad for people falling into this trap.
this has terrible written all over it, that's what. I feel bad people falling into this trap.
What trap? Excuse me? If you don't have anything constructive to come with i suggest that you remove your post.
Filling things up with addons is a bad idea, especially when it's darkrp
What trap? Excuse me? If you don't have anything constructive to come with i suggest that you remove your post.
i suggest you remove your thread because nobody will seriously apply and the odds of this being successful are literally next to nil
i suggest you remove your thread because nobody will seriously apply and the odds of this being successful are literally next to nil
Don't be rude please, be a little mature. It isn't that much to ask for. Someone have already applied, and as i said, the main reason is for learning and building a small mature community.

This isn't for learning, this is for using someone to do your bidding. I also doubt 1 person has already applied, and I hope to god he thinks twice after seeing how much of a joke this thread is.

Most of the coding is already done and the server is running smoothly and is already up in an Alpha version. From experience it's hard building a community alone and i need bright people to work with. You are clearly not one of them and i ask you to stop posting on this thread if you don't have anything constructive to come with.
You are clearly a person with issues, so i try to make things clear for you.
I have issues? No. You are the one with the issue, the fact you need to exploit someone to build a community on their back. Are you the ideas guy, does the guy helping you get 10% of donation money? We see threads like this time and time again and nothing comes out of it, the same will happen to you.

I have plenty of money my friend. I don't want to ruin a good server having donating options. What do you mean with "We see threads like this time and time again?" I am simply trying to be nice and give someone that wants to work on a server a chance, and i find it hard to build a community on my own. And it isn't a fact that i am trying to exploit someone. I just find it hard to work on a server all by myself.
You're acting really entitled, just because you are new doesn't necessarily mean that anyone posting here had to be nice to you. If someone is a good coder they will create their own server rather than falling into a trap.
You're acting really entitled
And you aren't? Get over yourself. Sure I hate these threads just as much as the next guy, but for once we have someone who knows how to use punctuation correctly. You have made your point, why not just leave it at that?

And i didn't ask for a good coder, i ask of one that is the same level as me, since i want to learn and work on the server myself too. This is a serious thread, and i am searching for a co-owner to run a server with me. This is a good opportunity to learn how to work on serious some hardware.
And you aren't? Your PowerEdge server, do you have colocation, host it from home or do you rent it off of a dedicated server host? Also, a tip! Get Linux instead. Linux will serve you and your server alot better, the features it brings are amazing. Takes a little time getting used to it, but it's worth it in the end. Lightweight and fast!
I'm unfortunatly not interested in joining but if you have, by any chances, a link to your community and/or server I'd be glad to check it out.

I will absolutely look into changing to Linux instead with time, i am going to dual boot the server soon and learn to use linux properly first (:
I'm unfortunatly not interested in joining but if you have, by any chances, a link to your community and/or server I'd be glad to check it out.
Thanks for your reply! My website isn't up just yet, but the server IP is 109.247.161.144:27015. There are no people online at the moment and there are some extra addons on the server that i am going to delete. They have been added only for educational purposes. So loading might take 4-6 minutes. Thanks!
Hhmm I'm interested, hit me on Steam. And like some other people said, install Linux. (Ubuntu works like a charm for new Linux users)
I like the home built rack, it really shows that you have a great interest in servers and hosting. Anyway, I noticed that your server has two very low-end CPU's. SRCDS isn't multi-threaded, meaning it will only utilize one core from one of the CPU's. 1.86Ghz will not be enough to supply a DarkRP server with more than 10-15 players. That CPU has to be upgraded to something alot more powerful to supply the server with enough processing power. 4GB of RAM is more than enough for hosting a single server, and you don't want to upgrade that. I suggest you put some money into upgrading those CPU's before doing anything other hardware related. Two questions; 1. What motherboard does your server use? 2. What is your network speed? I can see you are located in Norway, so you are fine to be testing towards Sweden's network testing service bredbandskollen.se (Speedtest ins't accurate)

EDIT: I might look into changing CPU

Since the GM13 update, servers uses a bit more resources than they did in GM12. I have about 6 years of experience with SRCDS servers, and I know for a fact that your server will not run "smoothly" with DarkRP, a good set of addons, alot of players and the biggest factor of all, the physics. You will notice yourself soon enough, I won't argue with you about this, I just know. Anyway, your network will definitely be able to handle the players, but is it stable? The mothboard in your server supports the Xeon 5300 and 5100 series, so I really suggest you to get two of these when you get the chance: Intel Xeon X6365 @ 4 cores x 3.0 Ghz

The motherboard does have a LGA771 socklet so that would work. My network is very stable, only 1-2 days of downtime in 2 years. Edit: I wont argue with you either, you are absolutely right.
Actually, that CPU will be hard to get by, but I found two of these Intel Xeon 5160 @ 2 x 3.0Ghz on eBay right away for a total of $26,44 USD which is approx 162 NOK shipping included in price calculation. The seller is top rated aswell, so you don't have to worry at all. Here's the link to the product on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Server-Pair-Intel-Xeon-5160-SL9RT-Dual-Core-3-0Ghz-4M-1333MHz-CPU-Processor-/321308531798?pt=CPUs&hash=item4acf7b1c56 That is a very good price.
