Fistful of Frags ANNOUNCEMENT - Garry's Mod

I ported every single thing in FoF and sold it. You don't even know which game/mod I'm talking about. April fools, good luck with getting people to stop porting by a thread.

Above all else, there is indeed some sign of copyrights on their website. I can't deny though that April 1st was the worst day you could have chosen to have announced this, hell, it had me fooled. It would have been more appropriate for Garry Newman to have made an announcement. I have not had the interest in downloading/porting FoF content, while I believe that content such as this should be shared for our, and your community's benefit, people who choose to port could face legal action if they so choose to take that route. Of coarse on the other hand, I've never seen copyright work for a mod, even professional ones such as this. It doesn't make too much sense to me.

Hello members Thank you for all the feedback you have given us, we know there are lovers and haters for this decission. But that's how the creator wants it to be done. He is the person that spended his time building a western mod, he worked years on it before it even got released, and he even hosted an official server (which stopped) and he never got even a single penny for it. I hope you guys can imagine how much time it takes to make a mod and the only thing what he got is what he deserved, a nice community that played his game. So I see players everyday saying "Woah this game sucks 'cus no patches..." Then tell me flamers, WHY do you play our game? "Because it's the only western mod"... Then be damn happy that someone made it for YOU, the gamers and without getting paid for it. We at the development team respect his decission because of all the hard work he put into it. Why are you speaking on behalf of the creator of the mod? Surely the best person to be able to voice his opinions would be himself.

Okay, so it's not a gimmick, but that still doesn't change the fact people will be able to port your content to Gmod and there's not a lot you can do about it. The most you can do is prevent people from uploading model packs to garrysmod.org, but what about all the other file hosting sites out there? There's no way you'll be able to completely stop people from uploading model packs to other sites for a mod you're distributing for free anyway. If they were so inclined, /anyone/ would be able to download FoF, and extract the models into Gmod themselves.

And because Gmod uses mainly HL2 engine code, which is also not free. The stuff people are porting from FoF is from scratch, and free.

Understand that we can only enforce this on Facepunch. Other communities can do as they will - you'll have to appeal to them separately. You also can't stop people from mounting the content themselves.

What about if you mount FoF with gm_mount2 ?

Besides, the coders here who use the models don't take credit for them, they explicitly state these models are from FoF. Fistful of Frags devs, you are the [b]only[/b] mod team to complain about people using models, that you yourselves released for free in your mod, in a free addon for a popular mod. These people do not take credit for your work, only what they have done themselves. Stop being so pretencious. We have model rips from commercial games, and yet none of their developers get to complain or give a shit. Why should you get special treatment? We are not stealing, we are using the models but telling others you are still the rightful owners.
