[Building] People always build cars and bitch about if you don't make cars I don't mind so much, but I'd like to see some creativity outside of ACF cars, especially because I've been with ACF since before it went public via the G3 servers and people claim to know it better than I do. I just want to see some other stuff besides cars and tanks being built without people complaining that it doesn't use ACF engines.
[Sandbox][Social]When people steal your contraptions and claim them as their own. [Social]Horrible Dupes on Gmod.org and Wiremod.com that lag servers, and only exist to cause problems. [Roleplay]I want to find a decent RP server with age restrictions... I like the idea, HATE the community. [General]Garry's Mod broke again.
[Build] "Oh, you don't know the latest suspension technique? GTFO noobscrub your antiques aren't welcome here." Thankfully I haven't heard this one in person, hell my antiques have gotten some positive reactions from older players as they nostalgia about the days when they were cutting edge, but I have no doubt it exists on other servers. The next one, however... [Build] "You enjoy crazy overpowered cars that go everywhere sideways? You're wrong!" Personal preference. Some people like their ride to be batshit bonkers, some don't. Live with it. As long as they're not crashing into yours while you're trying to build it leave them be. [RP] The community is so terrible I don't even want to try it. The couple times I have I found it boring. I honestly don't see the appeal. If I want to play a role I will pick up one of many RPGs I have on my Steam list. FO3, FO:NV, Bioshock 1, Deus Ex: HR, STALKER, the list goes on. Idunno maybe I need to spend more than an hour playing to find out why people do so, but the only plus side I've found first-hand is that the maps are great for building and testing cars on. [Addons] SVNs are bloody annoying. I don't care about having the latest update five minutes after the coder hits 'save' in notepad. I don't care if the zip file takes six hours to download. Just give me a Gmod.org download already. I don't update my SVNs very often anyway...maybe once every couple of years for Wire. Thank god Gmod 13 will do away with this nonsense, I can just subscribe to my favorites on the workshop and be done with the matter. [Addons] Addons that are on Gmod often aren't packaged as addons. Is it too much to ask to put the folders inside another folder with the mod name, then dump an info.txt into that main folder as well? Come on people. I know the sounds and scripts are a bit borked but everything else works fine out of the addons folder, and it makes uninstalling unused/terrible/glitchy addons so much easier when I don't have to shift-delete 14 gigabytes to get rid of a bad weapon! Another thing that won't be an issue when GM13 drops, but it's been a pain in the ass ever since I first got into Gmod. Nowadays I have a folder I made that I install these addons to as a workaround. [Addons] Where's the mapping scene gone? Freespace09, Freespace_rev, Flatgrass and gm_atomic are nice. But they're fucking ancient. Where the hell are the new build maps? New RP maps? [Build] The obsession with holo and E2 is a bit annoying as well. Yeah, they're incredibly powerful and certain wizards can do crazy shit with them. But it seems to me that if you aren't an E2/Holo wizard you might as well still be using the wheel STool on bathtubs. Nobody cares about contraptions that don't have at least one of each on 'em anymore. I still remember the days when we were scrambling to make a clutch to connect the spazzing deathball slider engines to the train of PHX gears attached to wheels. [Build] Nobody builds trains anymore. There was a bit of a flurry of railway activity when gm_wireconstruct came out, as before then the PHX train wheels were useless on the prop-based train tracks. But nowadays I never see anyone doing anything remotely cool with that sort of stuff. [Engine] We still don't have native joystick support. A HUGE chunk of serious building in Gmod involves vehicles, and vehicles would benefit from 360 pad support. Source supports it. Yet we've got to rely on the sometimes glitchy Joystick addon to use 360 pads. Maybe GM13 will natively support pads?
And ACF doesn't have bombs, rockets, or anything which could be useful. It's either you make your aircraft accomdate a 203mmC or you won't be useful.
Rockets were included in a recent update but they're horribly broken and unfinished. That aspect is actually being worked on. I'd love to see some other tweaks to the weaponry though. A sufficiently large hail of .50BMG will take out a ww2/Korean era Main Battle Tank, and that's the era ACF strives to simulate. Yet the 12.7MM HMG is absolutely useless against anything even remotely armored.
[Roleplay] The sheer amount of idiots who default to playing generic HL2 RP because they're so closed minded and can't be bothered to try something different.
I really do get where you're coming from, but with actual effort put into the gamemode rather than just slapping on the default stuff and having the generic 'citizen, move along' RP, it can actually be really interesting and fun.
[Build] Obsession with weapons. Dammit every time I build a decent contraption, people will say "It's nice, but needs some guns". Like dude, is building shit to kill other people really the cap of your creativity? C'mon
Joe you make these threads all the time. Not that I disagree with anything, but I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish?
[Addons] SVNs are bloody annoying. I don't care about having the latest update five minutes after the coder hits 'save' in notepad. Thank god Gmod 13 will do away with this nonsense, I can just subscribe to my favorites on the workshop and be done with the matter.
Well, Wiremod will most likely not be featured on the Steam Workshop, as putting content on it gives valve the right to re-license it. I would advise other projects that have multiple contributors to be weary of this as-well, because they only agreed to the license of that project, nothing else. Not exactly sure of all the technicalities, but I remember reading this on the Wiremod forums. [Sandbox/General] - People who cannot/refuse to figure anything out for themselves, and then cry when you ignore them. Don't get me wrong, I love helping people, but you need to put twice the effort into learning as I put into teaching, that means trying things for yourself. I will not walk anyone through something step by step, because that is a horrible way to teach, and(imo) a miserable way to learn. [Sandbox] - Build servers with inactive admins, and admins who can't build or admin. Build servers that use ugly or unoptimized maps. Build servers with useless shit like PAC installed on them. [Addons] - Redundant weapons and rag-dolls. On the first page of the Mods and Addons section of this forum, I count at least 5 different threads featuring weapons of a non-fantasy nature. Really, how many fucking separate-yet-identical AK47 models does a person need? It has been this way for years, people porting the same models from the same types of games and pretending they are useful or different. I bet you could find 50 "different" desert eagle models on garrysmod.org. [Internets] - People who think grammar nazi is an insult. I am sorry but those who make no attempt at typing properly are fucking morons, you know who you are.
[All] I hate servers that automatically ban for high ping because sometimes I have ping spikes that last for like two seconds but I still get banned over it.
Joe you make these threads all the time. Not that I disagree with anything, but I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish?
I was actually posting this because I got sick of community drama going into the 'MOST stupid ban reason!" thread. [Sandbox] I hate people with egos. Not people whom make good contraptions and feel proud of themselves, but people who make these goddamn E2's and act like tough shit to anyone who isn't building with E2. Whats also worse is that they claim your hacking if you use something they can't beat; ie. using aircraft to divebomb when they don't have AA. [Social] 'Always respect the admins/players' I can't count the times I've seen this rule being abused by admins who get upset because they can't win an argument and will straight away ban people for not agreeing with them.
Question. What is a "good" RP server by all of your standards? I wanna make a Gmod server, and if I make one, why not one all of you like so you don't have to go find one.
You want to make a good role-playing server? Make it so all the admins don't abuse, ban all minges, don't give your minging friends like 1000 chances, make sure everyone role-plays, actually enforce the rules, and if you can try to use a different RP gamemode.
[General][Sandbox] I seriously hate how all the servers I see nowadays are mostly rp servers, TTT, or some gamemode; I prefer Sandbox above all else because I have more freedom than "kill this guy" or "become a criminal / cop / mayor and kill/arrest/bribe this guy". Even when I do find a decent looking Sandbox, they have the default admin system (with lack of admins) with kids running around. And when they have both a system with admins, they're focused on a system where Donations = Popularity. ex. "Donate x amount of money to be better than a player who can only spawn x amount of props".
Not people whom make good contraptions
Do you actually have any idea how sentences are constructed in the English language?
Do you actually have any idea how sentences are constructed in the English language?
Is it that big of an issue to use whom over who?
Well, Wiremod will most likely not be featured on the Steam Workshop, as putting content on it gives valve the right to re-license it.
It probably won't be updated often in GM13 then. I've been known to go two years before updating Wire. I just don't like fucking with SVNs, and if I'm not playing on a server the version I have is just fine. I barely use any of the advanced shit anyway.
[Internets] - People who think grammar nazi is an insult. I am sorry but those who make no attempt at typing properly are fucking morons, you know who you are.
When it's used as an insult it's aimed at someone who derails the thread to bitch about an insignificant typo without contributing a single fucking thing to the discussion at hand. Like, if I misspell "bitch" as "btich", a normal person will just shrug, maybe lol a bit, and move on, whereas a grammar nazi will go out of their way to throw a fit over the swapped letters. They're fucking annoying. I'd ban them from any forum I ran, right alongside the people who can't be arsed to spell out "are" and "you".
Is it that big of an issue to use whom over who?
If you don't care you might as well use potato over who or make your own language.
If you don't care you might as well use potato over who or make your own language.
No one cares
No one cares
I know a person potato cares.
[Social] 'Always respect the admins/players' I can't count the times I've seen this rule being abused by admins who get upset because they can't win an argument and will straight away ban people for not agreeing with them.
Then again if someone starts bitching at me I see no reason to keep them in the game. Unless of course they're being constructive about it.
[Addons][Social] When you put weeks months of work modeling, texturing, porting, rigging, or ripping custom content into source and people complain it's not an NPC or SWEP.
[Roleplay] I hate how some 'serious' roleplay servers have admin cru's that do nothing more then troll around, get mad at you for calling them out on it then they attempt to act intelligent. Then not five minutes later the go and say 'ban the man for ded match' in chat with no grammar what so ever. [Build] I hate how they bloody build dynamite traps on this server I used to frequent. Rather annoying, seeing as they could put it right outside of your apartment. [Social] I dislike the fact that most new players are acting immature on purpose. Most of them do know better, but choose to act retarded. [Roleplay] I hate how some 'serious' role play servers (Such as one based on a game our dear friend TestECull listed earlier) for tight nicht's of friends, then blame the player base for not being able to 'handle' them. Then they blatantly insult all of us because we 'aren't on their level.'
I know a person potato cares.
Your potato example is overblown. Only a dedicated grammar nazi gives a shit whether one writes 'who' instead of 'whom' on a internet message board.
[Social] Admins, admins, admins. Every once in a while, I find a nice server with chillbros in it, but those are few and far between. Everywhere else its a goddamn ten year old on a power trip because he feels bad from getting stuffed into the locker every day at school.
Your potato example is overblown. Only a dedicated grammar nazi gives a shit whether one writes 'who' instead of 'whom' on a internet message board.
an* Also this is a great place for server owners to looks and pick up notes!
[Social] 'Always respect the admins/players' I can't count the times I've seen this rule being abused by admins who get upset because they can't win an argument and will straight away ban people for not agreeing with them.
This is a terrible rules. I give respect to those who deserve it, not those who have high rank. [Social][General] Over-complicated rules. [Social][General] Over-zealous admins. [Social][General] Players that act as though there is a written and enforced law for how a server should be run. If you don't like the server, don't play on it. If it's really a bad server, it will get no players and eventually bite the dust. My friend and I run a small sandbox server centered around Wiremod and we find that the server is, for the most part, much better without complicated rules. This works because rather than seeing the server as most would see it, a day-care with a rule board, we see it as more of a pub; The rules aren't written out because knowing how to not get your ass kicked should be common sense. You don't walk into a restaurant and get presented with a rule board that reads "No food fights!", "No yelling across the room!", "Respect the staff and other customers!", "Breaking any of these rules will result in you being banned from the restaurant!" No, you either know how to act, quickly learn, or get removed from the restaurant. After all, the server isn't free and Garry's Mod is, due to the engine it's based on and the assets used in it, for adults, so why should the server be run any different? Running the server this way, we have attracted a respectable player base with good builders.
an average combat plane is within 1 and 10 tons irl, so no
Frankly, since Phoenix came up with that high aspect ratio prop, I've found that ACF actually simulates aircraft decently well. Electric starters would be useful, but very easily accomplished with an angForce starter. An air-frame under one ton can hit 100+mph with a fin propeller. I think phoenix set the record at 115mph. More average combat aircraft (3+ tons) I've had at plenty reasonable speeds and climb rates. Really the only issue comes down to weight and weapons. Weapons are weighted to balance tanks, not aircraft. The aforementioned bombs/rockets would be vastly beneficial, especially dumb bombs. Despite the balance issues fielding decently sized weapons on fin only aircraft, it can be successfully approached in much the same way the A-10 was approached: Build the air-frame around the gun. I've built a twin engine airplane that has no trouble carting around a mouse aimed 100mm AL. Without the gun present it will not fly, but that is as its intended. The aircraft was built around that weight being present.

The "Gmod Community" is what it is, I'm not going to bitch about it. It's like any other gaming community, except on a game where you literally have almost limitless freedom... what do you expect?
Your potato example is overblown. Only a dedicated grammar nazi gives a shit whether one writes 'who' instead of 'whom' on a internet message board.
And I actually, using "who" and you should use "whom" isn't that big of a deal, but just always using "whom" for no reason is the problem. Some people don't get when to use "whom", but just always using it is plain stupid. "Whom" is not the same as "Who", and just because it's almost the same word doesn't mean it's okay to switch them around. It's just as bad as "where","were" and "we're", "your" and "you're", etc....
Then you're obviously not joining the right Roleplay server, hah. The "Gmod Community" is what it is, I'm not going to bitch about it. It's a good server. Though, I miss HG (I think that was the name of it) and their dark rp. The admin that was on every day after his little parties or whatever was so relaxed. Hell, he didn't even mind that we had like fifty money printers at one point. Mainly because we shared most of the money, but eh. I miss those days.
This is a terrible rules. I give respect to those who deserve it, not those who have high rank.
I agree, and I'm an admin on the GME Build servers. I don't expect someone to respect me because I have a red name and a banhammer...though I do expect them to listen when I tell them to shut the fuck up and stop micspamming.

I am an admin aswell and I get spewed with insults aswell, But I won't bring out the banhammer for that. Their opinion counts, And if it's disrespectful I don't care. As long as they don't break much rules they can spew shit at me. Once they start insulting other members I step into that because I don't like assholes who insult normal members who either just joined or have been with the community for a long time.
