RANT and BITCH about the GMod Community - Garry's Mod

I'm one of them, I just don't like hearing high-pitched voices. Then again voice chat in general bugs me. I don't use it regardless of who's on the other end. It's disabled entirely most days. I only turn it on when I get the idea someone may be micspamming, and then it's only to catch and deal with the micspammer.

[Social] I hate it when people bash on kids with high pitched voices. It's a tad cruel, and generally turns the youngster into a minge. Though, I do warn them to just use text if people make fun of them and to come to me if they do. It's a tad silly, really. People picking on eachother on a video game made for fun.

It amazes me at how many people that play Garry's Mod just play it for the gamemodes, and never bother to attempt learning how to use tools, and construct their own projects. Right now I feel as if Gmod is full of lazy people that have no creativity or willing to learn.

It's honestly not that hard to filter out the silly shit that some people throw out there.

[communities] All the DarkRP communities think that the game should be closed source and they all try and protect their little shitty addons (that at the end of the day 12 year olds are the end users of); they honestly think they're going to make some significant amount of money out of either running servers or customizing gamemodes or making little shitty addons. This has had a negative effect on other games like ARMA 2 RP where all the clans improve the code in tiny ways but no one co operates so the original code is shit (...) and all the clans shitty servers are only better by a slight amount. It ends up backfiring as they all fight over stupid shit and the game is no longer fun. Not only that, the communities end up giving the few people who know how to code shit a heightened sense of importance by awarding them admin ranks when they really have no capability of administration on a server. Either that or some fat lazy fuck goes selling admin ranks because he wants to actually make money from a game he doesn't own the rights to. Then when it becomes about money you have people DDoSing the fuck out of each other due to a financial incentive. Rather than accepting that some communities are different (i.e. some communities are more suited to noobs, or lightRP players as opposed to serious roleplayers) and the communities working together they are all completely separate and even having a communities tag in your name is grounds to get banned from some servers. And yes, some of the gamemodes, addons etc are extremely high quality and you can see a lot of effort and work has gone into them but at the end of the day you're coding for a game which is based off of Valve's games, you don't own the rights to the half life models or most of the game's textures or look or feel.

[Social] So I was derping around on my public listen server with a friend, we usually let random people join because they're usually pretty decent. Some kid joins and says something like "if u cna find were i am u ar giong 2 kil me." The ones who have owners that aren't powerhungry yet and doesn't attract kids because it's too small.

Well i dont know a single one, every time i join one either they have to many kids or the owners are just horrible well accept one.

I dislike like that a large portion of workshop contributions are stolen. The original creators did not agree to anything other than their own license, which might even make uploading it without their permission illegal. Uploaders can even disable comments, furthering the difficulty in making stolen content known. This kind of pigeonholes you into using the workshop and accepting Valve's bull-crap terms, because if you don't upload your own addon, someone else will, and Valve wont do anything about it.

[srs roleplay] People are very, very, very needy and I feel like since I currently own one of, if not the roleplay server with the highest amount of population that I can chime in in this pretty accurately. Admins are also typically extremely needy and typically need my help for simple tasks, and this is within all levels of administration. Even the ones directly below myself are often afraid to experiment and have a general attitude of when Johnny is back from Las Vegas he will save us all even though it was a matter that they could have figured out in 10-15 considering it took me an hour with a touch of information and an iPhone while I was in an airport, I still am as I post this. However, with all of that aside I wanna move on to the next point I wanna make. The serious rp community is far too engaged with this stupid fucking circle jerkoff that it was better in 2008/2007/2009/2010 because most of the people making these comments would have been 10 years old in 2007. It's the same thing about, all music from before the 1990's is good and the music now sucks. The music has remained consistent in overall quality, people simply choose to remember the good moments that happened and then ignore and forget about the bad experiences that they have had over the years. As well as the fact that most of them weren't fucking around for it in the first place and just listen to the ones that were actually there rave about it because they fall victim to how it was better. I had most of my fun on TnB and Epidemic as well as a ton of other small communities but I always heard about how it was always better 'back in the day' Lastly, this community is filled with fucking losers that think running a community is important and is going to give them a fucking business management job and because they get high players that they are born to do business. I have dealt with assholes that try and harass me and then go ahead to harass my family members which makes them even more pathetic. Calling people's family, threatening them with bogus legal threats, DDoSing competition, swatting people, etc is not cool, but I guess it is if your name is Gurrazor. So yeah, rp is really fun, dealing with the drama and dickheads and losers that come out of it, isn't really fun. But I have a don't give a shit attitude towards dealing with slimeballs, so all is good.

Servers with rules against micspam. Jeez, just put in a client-side mute list so if a player(s) don't like what someone is micspamming, just mute them client-side and be done with it. Don't fucking just straight up ban them.

You have a builder on your server who is nice, really good at what he does and has been around for quite a while. Over his mic, he decides "hey, I wanna play some music I like" or "I wanna play something that might make people laugh" He does so. Half the players like it, the other half do not. What would you do? Would it not be easier just to install a server addon so you can just mute them on your end, so others can enjoy it? Or ban that respectable player who meant no harm? A mute list means the half that don't enjoy it can mute them while the ones who do enjoy it, get to enjoy it with no issues. On the other side of the spectrum... Mingebags trying to make players mad by playing ear bleeding sounds or really annoying things etc. No one is going to like that. But, instead of banning, why not let people mute them clientside without the offender knowing so they just keep trying without even knowing they're failing to do their goal? And when they realize, watch them get flustered with irritation that their plan was foiled (which usually yields hilarious results), and they will either leave on their own (in which you can ban them because it was obvious they only joined to cause issues) or hopelessly attempt to annoy players in another manner (which are usually hilariously pathetic in the attempts) and ban them that way. A mute list can also help in the times where there is no admin to assist. Instead of outright banning people and letting players have none of their own power, being completely helpless and having to call upon an admin to help, give them a means to solve the problem a bit themselves. It eases on the admin's job a bit, and the players possibly get a laugh out of the butthurt of the offender who would have otherwise succeed, or, if banned, no one would have ever seen. Besides regular players like having a little power of their own. Besides, having such a massive set of rules that a good majority of servers has these days is no fun at all.
