I reckon the ideas of 'DarkRp', that is, the voting system and freedoms given to players, in theory, are good ideas. However, this is gmod we're talking about, and in practise, the freedoms given are abused by most. The name of darkrp has been tarnished too badly to make a good community out of it.

Problem is if DarkRP didn't exist all the good scripts would get flooded by morons, and if we just take it away from them the same thing will happen, but with more "Hai guyz how did u do dat!". And quite a few of the good scripts are either full of elitists, or take too long to get into when you just want a quick burst of RP and have no idea where to go.
The only real reasons I like DarkRP are that you don't have to develop your character and constantly work on that one, you can just create a new existence (so to speak) every time you join as you may not have the same job, respect or players on the server. Whereas the bigger scripts (I don't get how they are bigger, they have less features...yet have more shit to download), require you to work on that one character most fo the time, and for a newcomer to a server this will be a very tedious process.

Elitism is subjective. DarkRP'ers think anyone who plays on any other script besides DarkRP is elitist, then those people think TnB is elitist, and TnB'ers think DSRP'ers are elitist. Elitism isn't a bad thing either, as long as you don't share the attitude that your "better" than someone else as a person because of it, aka arrogance.
The problem with this lets leave all the "morons" in DarkRP is that they get capped there and never want to move onto real role play. Which to me is a really deprived experience. People just need to realize how much fun a proper role play scenario can be along with really getting to understand and know your character.
I also think that really no one has the inability to learn to better themselves as a role player, they just need to right teaching environment to learn it in and really understand how fun it can be without interrupting the immersion and flow of people already role playing.
The only factors that would prevent someone from learning to properly role play are;
- Mental Disability
- Language meaning if a person cannot fluently write in English the predominant language of most GMOD RP servers.
- Maturity

Yeah, thats the main thing that annoys me with some people I've ran into on some servers, they tend to be ignorant to the fact that their script isn't the best, and that people have to try some things before moving on onto better ones. And maturity is the one thing quite a bit of the gMod community is lacking unfortunately :frown:

If you havent noticed 50% sometimes even 60% of all servers are DarkRP or a Edited Version of DarkRP. I Host a Really Great DarkRP Server and no one ever has problems with it. Sure i have to ban a few minges every here and there but if you havent noticed the minges are under the age of 12.

I'm on the fence tbh. DarkRP is fine with no minges and RDMs, but RDMs and mingebags are more likely to be present in DarkRP. Thats the problem.

RP can be ok if there's no minges but that's almost never so it always turns to a DM instead.And you know its bad when a servers game is RPDM. i only play rp if my friends on and if people start getting gay we just go hunt em down.
DarkRP servers harbor a lot of minges, keeping them out of other servers. That's not very bad, is it?
One time in DarkRP, I was a hobo, and the cops were trying to flush out the hobos from the sewers, which was our home. So I founded a hobo city, and called the other hobos to it, and I barricaded all the doors but one, and we were being sieged by the cops, anf we fought them off, then we attacked the surface, and took over the server for a nice while. It was fun.
Yeh, I hate the fact that just because you're a hobo people immediately think thats an excuse to RDM. Thats already a set sail for fail. Seriously, all minges can get on the failboat and fuck off.
I went on a DarkRP server yesterday, took me around 10-15 minutes to download the LUA and shit, and then I was faced with huge doors blocking spawn. It is so fucking annoying it's unbelievable.

How coincidental that I was just about to make a post to make a 4th group.
DarkRP is just a script, lines of code put at the player's disposal. Don't blame DarkRP because it is the source of DM and Mingery: it doesn't make players into DM minges. If you can find the right group and server, DarkRP can actually be RolePlaying.

Yes, there was once a DarkRP server with RP in it!
I can't remember the server anymore (All I remember was that it was one of the few servers out there running rp_evocity_d2 and wasn't EvoRP), but there were people in there running on an earlier version of DarkRP and actually RPing it. I was a gun dealer (Survival instinct back then), and I was approached by a group of (Italian) Mobsters who recruited me at gunpoint into their business. I met a Don, sold a few guns, got caught by police in my home (they even had a warrant, probably an ass-pull, though), go questioned, and even got off on Bail. That was probably over a year now, but I can say that I actually went into a DarkRP server that wasn't all DM and Mingery.
Though, times have definitely changed. It seems like ever since RP and DarkRP started getting known, CSS Kiddies have hopped onto DarkRP servers for target practice and a salary.

DarkRP killed gmod rp. I don't care what you say, i have never been on a dark rp server with no excessive dm. Also you seem to be falling back on admins alot. admins aren't always on and players don't need to be cradled.
Matter of fact, gmod 10 rp and half of gmod 9 rp was terrible and was shitty. Why? Cause they are using scripts. Vanilla rp is the only true rp.
Actually, gmod 10 sucks with all the lua scripts. Earlier gmods were better with limited sciprintg. It made us utilize our imagination. Wire made all users learn something to just make something simple. "OH LOOK! i just made a turret with wire! i spent about 2 hours on it and it's done!" "Oh hey look i just used the turret tool gmod comes with and made a car with machine guns on it, it only took me about 10 minutes!"

This. DarkRP servers are usually full of bickering admins spamming IC/OOC chat and some guy that's killing everyone.
No one follows the whole OCC/IC rules.
Meteornet is for me. No wire, vanilla toolgun, and storylines that people make up.
I've been on some really kick-ass darkrp servers and I hosted one myself in the evenings for a while. I made guns slightly cheaper, but we didn't get any unneccecary DMing.

It is roleplay though numbnuts, you are basically saying that LightRP isn't roleplay either seeing as Dark is based off it. It may mot have the depth of other sripts, but it is still roleplay you elitist arse.
