I'd like to prove you different with all the chargebacks and raging players we had with reasons such as "I bought bananas and never received them, this server is shit", unfortunately I no longer have access to the PayPal account that once belonged to the community.
The one that I probably remember more than any other else is the chargeback reason "I got permabanned so the server does not deserve to keep my money".
People care about themself, with a few exceptions, people who actually care. There's this rare occasion where one guy donated $1,337 dollars in just under 3 months just for the sake of helping our server. But the main group of people just donates for the benefits, think they are better than anyone else and think they deserve some kind of special treatment because they were the person that kept the server online for another 0.18239 minute.

Yes, I understand this, which I why I left my suggestions and what I would do in the last paragraph.
If you're donating and getting something in return, it's not actually a donation...
