Hey, commandhat! Would I get banned if I uploaded FAMAS, and a different variation with a red dot sight or something like that.

You won't, but you will lose reputation in pro coders community and get it in noobs community.
Um...Okay?

Here's a quick idea: Make one SWEP witn an attached menu that you can use to switch between different sights and attachments. Still pretty simple (except for me, because I really don't know how to make stuff to go on Toybox) and all in one file.
Who's to judge whether an entity is good or not? What if the code of one entity, while appearing similar to another's, is in fact completely original (as in written from scratch)? How can we be sure that our uploaded entities won't earn us a ban, even if we thought we were following the rules?
That chat log wasn't very reassuring either. Unless I'm mistaken, it seems that he got banned because the moderator didn't like the SWEP. What was the case with that one, was the code stolen or copy-pasted?

Then there's this sort of thing:
[quote=kna_rus;26822822]For whoever who did not try this radio: it is in-game client for our community's internet radio, which is a 24/7 live stream of electro house music, with users able to request tracks and real DJs playing live sets sometimes. It is NOT mp3 player. It is NOT <insert your favourite video/audio/file storage> player. It does NOT do anything except playing music. [/quote]

This wasn't one of those stupid radios that play local MP3s, it was a radio that played a music stream from the internet. It seems like the moderator in question just said "Oh look a radio SENT, let's ban him for it" without really looking at it. Makes me nervous about getting into Toybox development like I had considered.

That's a great idea. I didn't think of that.

There was a BBC radio on the toybox before taht was uploaded. It played a music stream, too.

Who is really going to filter through all of that crap just to see if there is a slightly similar radio out there. Seems pretty idiotic to me. This is why I don't use toybox, bad moderators ban anyone for anything.
If I made and uploaded a type of weapon from scratch, let's say a handgun. Would I get banned because I did not invent the handgun?
[QUOTE=Codename36;27505196]If I made and uploaded a type of weapon from scratch, let's say a handgun. Would I get banned because I did not invent the handgun?[/QUOTE]
Only if the name is similar to other handguns (ex: My FLAME handgun! My ICE handgun! My DIRT handgun!), similarities can be found, etc. etc. etc. Basically it doesn't matter what you made as long as it doesn't look like a 5 second/minute copy of somebody else's weapons.
Edit: Or is inappropriate.
[QUOTE=commandhat;26999492]No you are most likely not going to get an early unban.
Got banned for a radio entity? Well good, [B]not everybody wants a radio entity for or coming with every fucking MP3 on the planet.[/B] If you want to make a radio, just slap yourself in the face about three times. Then ask yourself what about your "radio" is different from everybody else's radio.
Got banned for making an entity that is a lot like somebody else's entities? Do us a favor, [B]just delete your script if it looks or acts a lot like somebody else's object (Portal turret pill -> HL2 turret pill for example.)[/B] We want to see [B][I][U]fresh[/U][/I][/B] code, not stolen code. Also, making a string of really good entities dosen't automatically allow you to make a 5-second entity. See [url=http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1042621-Are-you-toybox-banned-READ-THIS!?p=27200060&viewfull=1#post27200060] this post. [/url]
Got banned for a comment? Then [B] wise up and figure out that [I] comments that attack someone else, either the creator or someone else[/I], likely earn you a nice vacation to ban-island, all expenses paid.[/B] The comments are for [I]constructive[/I] criticism, not for flame-wars or DIS CONSULE IS BETTAR LUL!!1.
Got banned for a troll entity? [B] Good.
If you found this helpful, please reply. Nothing will help this thread stay alive more then a healthy discussion.

i got banned for commenting for nothing all i said was good job on everyone and i got banned!!
I find the reasons for banning exaggerated from all points of view. I get the copyright of an mp3. But many could use free dj songs etc and rmx'd free versions that are around. Sharing is caring, even if it's dumb or slightly different :) Gmod's meant to make you smiles anyway. Same goes with the toybox in game comments, exaggerating bans everywhere. Just my two cents don't get me wrong. But then again I've always feared Face Punch, seeing people get banned left and right : P Guess I get the meaning of "Face punch" now.
Received a PM today.
For everybody's notice, I am not a toybox moderator.
what if I don't want fresh code but more cool stuff huh
[QUOTE=Matt PL;28116575]what if I don't want fresh code but more cool stuff huh[/QUOTE]
Fresh code = cool stuff. Unless of course you like to play a BOOM SWEP with a different mp3 every time you start the game.
Why don't you enforce this on garrysmod.org? jesus
I'm still waiting for someone to use "fresh code". Pretty much everything that I download still uses Lua, which has a multiple wikis, full of examples on how NOT to use it (because after all, they are looking for FRESH code).
Which is truly funny, because EVERY (and I do mean EVERY) Addon and Toybox Lua/Gcf file that I've delved into, blatently copypastas bits from the wiki.
Or from other programmers (with permission, of course).
Or from Hl2, DoD, CSS, L4D2, Portal, etc.
Or they get their ideas from other games/movies (Tron, Stargate, Mario, etc).
There's something truly "fresh" going on here? I got the impression that what makes Garry's Mod so unique is in the way you can COMBINE PEOPLES WORK to get something interesting and new. That's where the "freshness" comes in (at least for me), is by taking something stale and breathing new life into it. Not by focusing our attention on whether or not we're duplicating someone else's work. Talk about taking the fun out of a game...
If anything, fresh code is better in case the copy pasted code has say, an error that wasn't ever noticed before. And the moron who copied said Lua script didn't know s:frogsiren:t about how to code Lua, therefore cannot fix said error. So basically everyone's screwed here.

I like the BOOM Sweps
Another reason to block radios would be piracy.
If some would upload a radio with the song 'Tim Berg Vs. Oliver Ingrosso & Otto Knows - iTrack' Garry could get angry emails from Spinnin' Records because hes spreading music.
I got banned for a bad comment??? the last comment i wrote was "very nice job :D" i get banned for that? thats gay...
[QUOTE=ikillu64;27388271]That's a great idea. I didn't think of that.[/QUOTE]
Do it like Crysis 1 and 2 when the fag with that nano suit pulls up his arm with the gun and these menu's appear at the different customizable parts of the gun.
helpful... scary, but helpful
I understand why you don't want stolen code used, but there were good things in Toybox removed, which is why authority gets shunned at, then rebelled upon. A prime example was the actual working portal gun, not the useless portal riffle, which was more misleading, because it false advertises its the portal gun to those quick gamer's dismay.
Sarcastically, I like how stuff both from the dot org and TB gets pulled with out community vote, I thought everyone had rights to fair trial By Jury, not to mention Appeal Process. That said, I never actually uploaded any stuff to TB myself, I like the feature I admit, but I still await the day for multiplayer.
Received another PM.
Why is so hard for you guys to stop believe I'm an actual working toybox moderator for one second?

Uh so who is a toybox moderator?
MerzBro - Garry?
Topic - What about someone make a radio, that plays radio streams, but have menu that allows it to change stream. Will it be banned?

Currently, Garry is just banning anybody who uploads a radio period. Might change in the future, but idiotic gmod users have to stop going MARIO BOOM LOL SPARTA RADIO XD XD XD first.
Edit: also there's 2 admin. I think the second admin's name is Gwen or something.
