Alright I got something else to add to the list. S2K/S2M I've played quiet a few HL2 RP servers, but this is seemingly that rule which continues to pop up. Shoot 2 Kill/Shoot 2 Miss. Yeah I know I shouldn't argue that these rules aren't needed in HL2 RP script based servers, but the usage of them is just frustrating. For example, I arm up a group of guys, and we set up, and ambush in the Canals for a Rebel Convoy that we've known about for like a week. We're pumped. We WANT too kill them. Blood pumped we wait for them to get into the area, and once we spot them we begin unloading on their posistions, and we manage too kill a few, and others retreat. You wanna know what happens? We get yelled at for S2K'ing in a s2m-zone. Sad part of this whole story? It's an S2K zone only a few yards from our posistion. This rule is a big piss off for people who are aiming to stop their enemies. Why am I get pissed about this? Becauser people complain that, "IT SUCKS WHEN YOU LOSE EVERYTHING IN 1 SHOT TO THE FACE" well... Welcome to life I guess? I believe a system should be added to make it so if players are dragged back to a point of safety, and then are patched up they can be pulled away from the field, and are allowed to survive. On the other hand though... If you die on the field you just die. Simply said, and simply done.
If you ran right up to a enemy's face in a S2M zone, could you get him banned if he shot you?
This one guy shouted "BRPG BRPG" at me for no reason once.
Is anyone else up for re-writing terms/rules for RP servers?
I'm personally working on a design for a completely new RP gamemode, somewhat military themed though. To be relevant: Prop Spamming. I have been banned for this so many times when I was creating my house. I spawned seven or eight things, and BAN.
I find the /me command pretty useless nowadays, we have GRAPHICS, if I wanted to pick up something I just pick it and the other person will see me picking it up and so on.
I'm pretty sure there aren't any animations for lets say, kissing or punching someone in the face and taking all their money.
You guys should make your own Rp server. It will be like real role-play!
Roleplay will never ever come back to its former glory. Oh Gmod9 how I miss you so
what the fuck does NLR mean (define the words in the posts.. please... non-role-player here.)
what the fuck does NLR mean (define the words in the posts.. please... non-role-player here.)
New Life Rule. In a nutshell, you forget your killer and can't do anything about him.
If you ran right up to a enemy's face in a S2M zone, could you get him banned if he shot you?
Basically what happened was we set up in an area which was S2K, but they were in S2M. They loopholed the system, and blamed us for killing people in a S2M.
I also have a very hard time understanding the definition of prop block sometimes. Like lets say that there's a building with a front door and a back door. The person who owns the building blocks the back door with a prop, but leaves the front one open. All of the areas of the buiding can still be accessed from the front door. Is this prop block? I've heard some people say it is and some people say it isn't.
About new life rule, they kind of made it on some darkrp servers so you could get the guy back that killed you. The hitman job lets you set a hit which really just accelerates rdm
NLR is somewhat a nussiance more then an aid. What should be done is instead of having it so, "YOU CAN'T RETURN HERE, GOD!" you should make it so the rule basically says you forget whatever criminal event took place before death, and any criminal action which takes place after your back to life can be used as hard evidence against the criminal.
i miss old gmod rp
i just run around duping guns and rdming so i dont care sometimes i spam queen too
Metagaming It's not that I'm confused by it, but it's more about how it's just thrown around nilly-willy by people who don't understand it and get confused by it. A while ago on the TnB HL2 RP server, a thug took me hostage. He'd already killed one hostage when a guy came round a corner, saw the corpse and the gun, and ran off. Some time later after the thug took me and another hostage to his weed den in the italian resturaunt, a CP Squad comes barging in, thug goes out, gets killed - this happens. Thug: LOOC: OMG METAGAME Cop: LOOC: It was an IC report Guy who reported it: LOOC: Yeah Thug: LOOC: He didn't RP running away, METAGAMER! And it went on and on and on. When I was being interrogated later, I was telepoted back to the resturaunt by him, presumably in an attempt to make it seem the entire event never happened. Good god.
I feel you Blooper. Metagame falls under the same grounds of RDM. It happens, but it should be dealt with IC'ly
Yeah. Still, he got banned for ALOT of stuff, including constantly making excuses of being "OOC" when the cops catch him with the "Trenchcoat/Navy Hat" title in his description (He donated for the model - he shouldn't even be using that models all the time anyways - it's a REBEL model.) Plus he apparantly got kicked out of the canal server for going ahead of a group just for SWEPS during some event, and that he wasn't even authed to be in the canal server anyways. Stuff happens, I suppose.

Good god.
This is a typical example of someone that doesn't know the definition of metagaming. Metagaming is using OOC info to benefit your character IC. A typical example: Rebel (OOC): I'm escaping through the subway station! Cop (IC): Everyone, get to the subway station, someone is trying to escape! That's metagaming. Not using /me commands to explain that you're running away is NOT metagaming.
Yep - that's the reason why I placed it up - to show the guy didn't understand metagaming. His back was turned to the witness, so I guess he never saw him and assumed Civil Protection coming was the result of metagaming.
I would say that if he just put the prop there its not, but if he froze it or such then it is.

Oh, good 'ol Gmod RP. I stopped playing it after my friends and I all joined some Gmod.biz server, RPed better than everyone else (we actually used adjectives), and were banned shortly after for "trolling." The server enforced detailed RP and seriousness, while the lead admin's player description was "above evil|powrful combien solder|has lots f training|." He barely spoke English, too. Anyway, on topic: Metagaming sucks. Most people can't seem to accept the fact that they do it.
NLR Every server has a different take on it, but no server has a clue what it is. If I get robbed and killed by a thief, I should be able to report it to the police without getting banned for "breaking NLR". The idea of NLR is to keep players away from the situations that killed them, not to ensure a clean getaway by the criminal[s].
When you get killed you enter a "new life". This means that your character is completely supposed to forget what just happened and not act out in revenge, for example by not reporting it to the police since you were killed and entered a new life. Besides the cops are usually morons that want to be in a position of power and have no idea how to properly be police, so reporting it to them will do little at best.
Metagaming It's not that I'm confused by it, but it's more about how it's just thrown around nilly-willy by people who don't understand it and get confused by it. .
I was once accused of metagaming on TF2. Just more proof that most people have no idea what it means.
Metagaming. Even though it's supposed to be forbidden, why does it always happen like fuck?
Metagaming. Even though it's supposed to be forbidden, why does it always happen like fuck?
Because in RP your goal is obviously to win everything, and totally not to have a fun narrative experience. You need the best guns, the best "homies", the most money, and you're supposed to do anything to get it. Even metagaming. You can't care less for anything else. Also because 80% of the GMod RPing community doesn't understand what "in-character" and "out-of-character" means in the first place.
Gmod is a pretty bad platform for RP anyways because the game attracts kids like hell. Edit: That's actually one of the reasons I quit garrysmod. I only come to this forum section in search of severe brain trauma/anger management problems caused by the player community in it's current state.
Yeah because majority of the "roleplaying servers" are filled with people who are themselves in IC, no actual character. They have wrong assumption of roleplay.
Actually. I think the whole RP thing is a pretty bad idea. People already have lives, why not live those instead of creating imaginary ones. For example, you could rather play an entertaining game rather than sitting around on small Gmod maps chatting with people and acting bad drama. Edit: Well jesus. I'm outta this place

But how you can live in a zombie apocalypse or a space station in real-life? :v: That's why you can roleplay these scenarios and with good roleplayers, it's really fun and immersive.
