"do unto others as you would others do unto you"
This can be interpreted as "do unto others as others do unto you". If someone uses un-rp means then that authorises me to do the same. If a bunch of people rdm then lock them into a house with a big prop. Might cause some trouble with the admins, but If you just explain the situation they might let it pass. Or not, and you were bound to be banned eventually anyway. You're better off never accidentally returning.
Actually. I think the whole RP thing is a pretty bad idea. People already have lives, why not live those instead of creating imaginary ones. For example, you could rather play an entertaining game rather than sitting around on small Gmod maps chatting with people and acting bad drama.
Edit: Well jesus. I'm outta this place [img_thumb]http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr26/Bobsters37/unicycle-frog.gif[/img_thumb]
Because in real life if you became a mob boss you run a risk of actually getting arrested. In RP, you can experience things that you couldn't/wouldn't in real life, without any actual risk to yourself.
Not really a term, but some servers rules.
I've seen servers where you can be banned for jumping without using a /me command, yet you can drop a washing machine onto a guys head from the top of a building, kill him, and get off free.

I once was in this server where the owner was constantly opening the window to his shop (Propblock) to shoot at innocent bystanders (RDM), I got killed, NLR obeyed. Watched the people get killed, tried to break the guy's door down with a BRam, the owner demoted me to toolless citizen with the reason NLR.
Eventually, I got repromoted, and me, the SWAT team and the Mayor broke into the idiot's propblockrdmshop. He gets killed and then, the huge idiot kills us all (NLR), I said that I was going to the sewers to escape that psycho in OOC to SWAT team, and the guy stalks me until he gets me dead (Metagaming).

Sometimes (Always) RP servers suck.

Dumb.
you look retarded.
Another one that I've hated for a long time -
"Asspulling". Its a great rule when done right, but idiots seem to not know what it really means. You're breaking the rule when you pull a large weapon (machine gun, rpg, etc) out of nowhere. You AREN'T BREAKING THE RULES when you pull out a pistol - they're easily concealable. Another way retards think your breaking the rules is if you get one out at ALL. Heres a conversation I had when I was a hitman: (the parts in asteriks are /me commands)
*Zbelac123 walks into the room with a backpack on*
Retarded Mayor: OHAI I C THE COPS LET U IN??!
Zbelac123: Yes. (I had actually sniped the cops to get in)
Retarded Mayor: WELL WHAT U WANT
Zbelac123: I just thought I'd have a small meeting with you.
*Zbelac123 pulls out a machine gun from the backpack, and loads it.*
Retarded Mayor: OMG U ASSPULLING IM DEMOTING YOU
*I get demoted and the retard runs away before I can shoot him*
True story.
Alright... This is something I've gotta put out there.
Playing on SS (Sammy Servers) I got into a huge argument with a Super Admin regarding something which seemed like a complete piss off to players. Time for some backstory... In SS, Super Admins are able/allowed to spawn Wire Turrets for stationary defense. This... This annoys me. Why? Because the SA block off big pieces of area (whole sewers in this case) too allow their group of guys to farm money printers. I began an argument with the SA who put down the wire turrets by basically stating that it was cheap to use wire turrets. The argument went like this.
Joey Skylynx: Dude, wire turrets are cheap.
Admin: What you mean?
Joey Skylynx: Your blocking off a whole sewer system for farming money printers.
Admin: Okay... Your point?
Joey Skylynx: So let me get this straight... You find nothing wrong with using max damage turrets to block off a whole area, and even the keypads don't work because you have the big red godwin button in your farm room which allows you too kill anyone whom enters the area.
Admin: It's totally legal.
Joey Skylynx: So if I propblock an area, and add a propkilling mechanism which works on a keypad, but I have my godwin button that's allowed?
Admin: Lolno thats propkill!
Joey Skylynx: But your allowed to do it.
Admin: No! I'm using turrets!
Joey Skylynx: Does it matter? You still kill everything, and demote players for propblocking when they block the guns to get into the sewer.
Admin: ITS LEGAL NOW SHUT UP.
He basically went on too threatning to "juicy kick" me after this, and said if I went any further with the argument I would be kicked/banned.
Now my main question is this... Why are Admins allowed to do shit, but regulars can't? Restrictions are alright, but giving blatant minge tools to admins is not cool, and is clearly abuse of power. I'm almost close to making a motor propkilling trap to see what will happen.
Probably because they're under the assumption that "ADUHMINS CAHN DO ANATHING". Even though they're supposed to enforce server rules, propblocking being against. I'd say ego was another factor.

Hm... well, I dunno. Because it's FUN?!
Not all RP is Real Life RP. I never even touch DarkRP servers in the first place. Just Serious Roleplay servers.
In all honesty I grew on Forum Roleplay. FPS/Forum RP are so seperate it fricking drives me insane.
I've seen some serious RP servers and they are all about so called passive RP mostly. JUST CHAT AROUND AND DEVELOPE YOUR CHARACTERS.
Even on "unrealistic" servers.
No it's not fun. It's time consuming and boring.

Agree. I don't see the point. If I wanted to develop a character by chatting, why waste clock cycles on rendering a 3d environment to do this in? Why not just keep it on a forum where it was born and is optimised for?
It's not like book and dice role playing either, with no game leader who moves the story forward (because lets face it: without someone with absolute and supreme power to make the rules and set the scene, nothing gets done. We just lack the ability to play nice).

Sorry, but I've gotta disagree with that. I've had some very good RP experiences done out of passiving.
The problem is you're just assuming it all is just "standing around". Why not open up a bar or similar? You'll attract other players and you can all mingle together. Once, I opened up a Noodle Stand in HL2 Serious RP and had some damn enjoyable passiving. Talking about things that have been recently happening, discovering one guy seems to be depressed over the loss of his daughter, my character getting to confront the (Now mindwiped) guy who started the events that result in my character's arm being broke, one customer getting drawn by a sketch artist. It was really, really fun.
Now, no need to make stereotypes.

For the most part I agree with you, but isn't playing video games in and of itself time consuming?
I find RLRP to be pretty fun. IRL, you cant just physgun a wood fence and build a dance club and the next day, decide to be a cop and interrogate criminals.
On another note, What rules would you guys like to see for a REAL serious RP server (not the ones that claim they're serious cause "RDM" is against the rules) that balances control and flexibility?
Oh and punchwhoring confuses me. If you're in a fistfight with someone, do you hit them once and run away or do you keep fighting till on gives up or passes out? The second choice would result in "punchwhoring" called on you. Pretty dumb.
I often find myself in situations where I find the other player has no idea how to roleplay and I walk off. Two minutes later everyone on the server is spamming in OOC with, "MINGERUNNER BANN HIMM HE SUX ROLEPLAY".
Oh good god, Mingerunning.
Yeah, this is one of those terms that gets thrown around more than any of the others.
I'll put it blunt and I'll put it simple - Mingerunning is when somebody deliberately tries to flee out of a RP thingimajiig because they think their character will be under risk. They might even switch to another character, which is even less allowed.
What doesn't count as mingerunning is, say, trying to flee from Overwatch.

Well fuck if that's not mingerunning I've had a few guys back at TnB try to ban me for running from them while they were shooting at me, and I hide under a pair of rail road tracks. I got kicked for minge running, and later on I asked the admin about it and he banned me for admin disrespect.
Huh...
That's kinda odd. I'm not really what to say though, since I probably wasn't there.
I have never heard of mingerunning. I guess I'm lucky.
RP communities are generally ran by dicks and prepubescents :colbert:
This is a typical example of someone that doesn't know the definition of metagaming.
Metagaming is using OOC info to benefit your character IC. A typical example:
Rebel (OOC): I'm escaping through the subway station!
Cop (IC): Everyone, get to the subway station, someone is trying to escape!
That's metagaming. Not using /me commands to explain that you're running away is NOT metagaming.
You are a 100% wrong on that. If something of that form was going on you should use PM's or Group Chat. OOC is for things not related to the roleplay. Or not talking about events that happened, etc.
So you're saying nobody can talk about RP in OOC chat?
What is this.
Applications
Applications bug me. They always are done out of charchter, and I believe it should be done mostly in charchter, and the stuff like backstory should be done on the forums afterwards.

I have to agree with you on that one. Applications for factions should be done IC and in-game, as it would make it much more realistic.
But I've seen some RP communities that have you fill out both an OOC form and an IC form.
While the main application itself is done OOC, what counts is is the IC stuff you do to get yourself approved.
For example, on the HL2 RP server I keep mentioning, I applied for Civil Worker's Union. Afterwards, I had my Appliant known amongst the rest of the Union, and goddamn was it fun. Doing tasks, chatting around about stuff etc. It was fun. As a matter of fact, I'm still the latest guy with a new CWU character - nearly every other app that was made after mine hasn't been approved yet.
Thus, IC approval is where it is.
Metagaming
I know what it is but the fact that it has different meanings EVERYWHERE.
In one place looking through a window is metagaming
In another its using /pm's
In another its like it is supposed to be, using OOC chat, steam messages, IM messages, or ventrilo to tell someone to do a IC action. :/

Blargh, rated myself on accident.

I do agree that IC letters/applications might be the best. But if there are lots of players that wants a it's hard to filter which application that was the best one.

You are incorrect. OOC is used to talk about roleplay, in fact that's what it's primary function is, talking about roleplay OUT OF CHARACTER. Like if someone kills me and I can't figure out what could have possibly motivated them in character, I don't run back to the spot and in character say "WHY YOU KILL ME YO." I say out of character "Can you please tell me why you killed me? I can't see what the motivation for that was."

Okay, OOC is for Out-of-character messages, which means you can talk about anything happening inside the game or outside it without anyone is using it for an IC reason or act.
And what there has happened to me too many times, Well ever heard about random warrant or random searches.
i have just build a bank and it going really good and the money is flowing in but what no one knows is that i have my own money printers in that bank.
Role-playing situation:
Me: Welcome to Hidania Bank, how may i help?
ShittyCop: **Knocks at the door**
Me; no you are not getting in.
ShittyCop: **Knocks at the door**
Me: i Told you you are not getting in.
ShittyCop: *Runs away*
**A moment after**
There comes 3 cops walking over against my door, and knocks on it.
me: tells them again that they not are getting in.
Speakingshittycop: let us in.
Me: Why?
Speakingshittycop: Contra check
Me looc: Do you know that's a random search?
They walk out....
This has happened everywhere, and if they don't leave they get somebody with a lockpick to open my doors.
