What makes it "dead"? That's a good point. Someone should mod those to have a more obvious effect, though.
It's dead as roleplay, alive as deathmatch.
I'm pretty sure there aren't any animations for lets say, kissing or punching someone in the face and taking all their money.
There is one for punching.
Yeah, but it's less of a punch then it is "Thrust your fist at the target's face and keeping it there incredibly awkwardly until the guy you're punching dies from awakwardness of having an unmoving fist in his face for a long time".
Yeah, but it's less of a punch then it is "Thrust your fist at the target's face and keeping it there incredibly awkwardly until the guy you're punching dies from awakwardness of having an unmoving fist in his face for a long time".
This explains that even though there's a first-person animation, there's no third-person one and it looks like you're holding an SMG or somewhat similar. [editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
Another little rant... ...there are also the "crowned" characters... ...you may injure and knock out, but can't be killed unless the story demands it, and the main storyline will always end up the same no matter what actions you take.
I haven't noticed this lately, but of course I wouldn't be able to tell since my PC (The one with Gmod on it) likes to kill itself because the video card sucks. I haven't really had much issue with this in the past, though. Even so, there usually aren't very many admins on, and the Rebel group (Who are supposed to have to rejoin after death) seem to just "respawn" and go on with their little rebellion.
What makes it "dead"? That's a good point. Someone should mod those to have a more obvious effect, though.
Maybe it could emit a distinct humming sound?
Maybe it could emit a distinct humming sound?
Paradox did that... Made people think twice about money printing. I would actually blare a radio too drown out the sound.
I remember I was playing HL2 RP and I got pulled away by an admin because I "Minge punched" a CP while he was beating other people that I was helping.
I remember I was playing HL2 RP and I got pulled away by an admin because I "Minge punched" a CP while he was beating other people that I was helping.
You need to roleplay punching. For example, with actions: /me attempts to swing a quick punch into the man's face.
And if its on OA you need to do /roll, but let me just this now... Your better off just popping the CP with 9mm then you are bunching them. Remember... They have armor made of steel patching.
Attempt. I understand it perfectly fine, it's to avoid powergaming, but sometimes it really bugs the crap out of me. For example, if I'm about to hit a citizen with a stunstick, I'll have to say /me raises his stunstick up into the air, and slings it down in an attempt to hit the citizen and the citizen WILL ALWAYS say "/me dodges the stunstick" or something like that. ALWAYS. It makes it really frustrating to try and RP something in general, since whenever I attempt to do something they will always find a way to dodge it, thus making it more unrealistic.

Gamemode doesn't have anything to do with the actual roleplay. /roll is not needed and it's frowned upon in many serious roleplaying communities.

Oh, and mingerunning is the most ridiculous rule I've ever seen.
abbreviations like KTT and DGH what's that supposed to mean anyway?
Attempt. I understand it perfectly fine, it's to avoid powergaming, but sometimes it really bugs the crap out of me. ALWAYS. Whenever I'm in a fist-fight or some such situation, this is my general formula: How strong is my character? How agile? What is my characters state of mind? Would they WANT to block/dodge? (I.E you are a normal civillian and a CP swings a stunstick at you, dodging it will probably only make things worse, therefore, my character would take the hit) Would they be calm enough to do so? How tired is my character? What is my opponent's status in all of these categories? Then I act accordingly. Like for example, one time I was in a sparring match, and my character was extremely tired, as he had been fighting for a long time. My opponent was tired as well, but he had more stamina, and he had been using up much less energy than I had, allowing him to have the upper hand. I had been knocked to the ground, and he took advantage of it by trying to get on top of me, placing his knees over my arms so that I couldn't counter-attack. In this case, it really doesn't make sense for me to go /ME NINJA ROLLS AWAY AT THE LAST SECOND. My character was tired, my opponent was tired, but much less so, and he also had the advantage because he was standing where as I was on the ground. Therefore, I was pinned, and he won the sparring match soon after.
I usually don't end up as the successor in such events. For example - on my refugee character on TnB, me and another guy did some Close Quarters Combat training - when he /me'd him swinging a fist or whatever, I usually took the blow. The only reason I somewhat won was because I jumped over and ducked underneath the nearby target range. It was good RP.
TnB It was good RP.
You lost me there. Sorry, all my experiences with TnB have just been bad.
RDM The term RDM is without doubt the most annoying/frustrating term I've ever had to hear in my time of actually roleplaying. Why? Because it makes no damn sense! So let me get this straight... If were RP'ing, and a guy kills us in the form of mass murder, genocide, just whatever floats the boat of the RP, we have too stop roleplaying, and go,"RDM RDM RDM" Why? Why can't players just actually roleplay out the situation, and let the authority(i.e. MP's, CP's, NCR) take control of the situation without disturbing the roleplay. Yeah in the long-run that can go hand in hand with people just being complete idiots by slaughtering off the whole server, but I believe to get better RP you need to drop the term of RDM all together, and actually roleplay out the situation, and later down the road where the player is arrested you could form a punishment involving ragdoll hanging or something.
Well the thing is, RDM came about because most servers forbid people being serial killers or mass murderers or whatever because every 10 year old that enters the server is like 'ima be seriel killa hurf durf' then starts killing everyone randomly, not that that doesnt happen anyway. The way its used in TTT annoys me more - the R stands for random, people whine 'RDM!' even when someone kills them because of some sort of mistake or because they actually think the person is a traitor, it isnt exactly random when you have a reason...
You lost me there. Sorry, all my experiences with TnB have just been bad.
All my experiences with DarkRP have just been bad. Now we are even. Yay. EDIT: In all seriousness though - it's alright. It's not like I'm gonna rage my head off because you dislike TnB. Opinions matter in most cases.
You need to roleplay punching. For example, with actions: /me attempts to swing a quick punch into the man's face.
that's stupid code it in so it's rped [editline]3rd March 2011[/editline] you can't trust people to do that stuff it's boring and wastes time
that's stupid code it in so it's rped [editline]3rd March 2011[/editline] you can't trust people to do that stuff it's boring and wastes time
The /me command is really useful, although some servers overdo it. It is quite critical to give your opponent a chance to react, and if you think that it wastes time, make a bind for it. Example: bind l "say /me attempts to swing a quick punch into the other man's face"
What annoys me, is when people unaware of you presence think they can mystically dodge your attacks. For example: Person A attempts to grab Person B from behind. Person B turns around and punches him in the face. When you attempt something, they always want to win. I usually try to go for this: Person A grabs Person B from behind. But then, "OMg POW3RGaM0R1!!!!1!!!!!w!!!!???!Q AdM1N HAlP111!!!11!?!AH!>?!" And then, "Disconnect: Kicked and Banned" :colbert:
The stories I hear today make me want to go back to the good RPers I know, I haven't RPed in a while.

Why can't people just be like old TSRP people or just forum rp?
feels slow and clunky to me. i shouldn't have to say "I JUST PICKED UP A GUN LOL" then wait 10 seconds for the guy next to me to make a response. the "HURR I JUST PICKED UP A GUN" thing should be part of the code [editline]5th March 2011[/editline] isn't even that hard to pull off
Half the time you don't have to emote picking up a gun, because if you can see yourself doing it, you shouldn't have to type it. /me's are for the less obvious things. Sure you can pick up a gun, but you can also go, "/me slowly reaches for the gun, his clammy hands shaking. He fumbles around the gun, making it obvious that this was his first time.
Why does everyone feel that /me's are stupid and should be scripted? Script>RP = Failure. Honestly I Roleplay for the Storybuilding part of RP not for the RPG part.
that's stupid code it in so it's rped [editline]3rd March 2011[/editline] you can't trust people to do that stuff it's boring and wastes time
Roleplaying isn't for you then, pal.

I simply hate the fucking retards who don't like losing, and preach that it was clearly because I didn't /me every fucking action that animations could of done for me.
Zomg... Its Joey Skylynx, the guy i met on chuptathingy:D This is Max Cream if you remember me:D Ok to the thread now. NLR If you have died, you are a complete new person, you have forgotten everything in your passed life. E.g -You don't know who killed you. -You don't know how you died. But when you died you can WALK back to your shop, headquarters or home. Metagaming Different servers take this differently than others... I do not know how to explain this rule but ill give examples. -You walk up to someone, even though their name is above their head, you do not know who they are. You do not know how much health they have. You do not know what their current occupation is. Unless your the Mayor or police. -You walk up to a door or garage, even though it says someone owns it, you don't know if someone owns it. (Well of course if you can't buy it someone does own it.) You don't know if a door/garage is ownable or unownable, unless you can buy it or not:P Thanks:D
