To be honest, I don't want it to be run with 64slots. It will become laggy and unstable. 16 players is enough in my opinion. Instead, you could have two servers wich runs with 16slots. And when you play on "Old Age #1" the data will be saved, and you can join "Old Age #2" and continue there in case the other server is full. So both servers would use the same saved files to load up character stats, info and inventory. Number of servers will ofcourse be depending on how popular the gamemode is.
I don't know if the maw is doing mysql to save but if he isn't then players will have different account for different servers.
I just looked at the videos. This gamemode is PURE FREAKING WIN. Congratulations on releasing an RP that is [i]not [i/]simply an edited DarkRP. Also, this will probably the first MMORPG that I don't hate. My suggestions are to try to do a Sassilization-type thing, and what Bletotum said here
I don't know if the maw is doing mysql to save but if he isn't then players will have different account for different servers.
MySQL sucks. It only stores data on single server boxes. I am using a custom one so i can move this data somewhere else incase of a server change. And to everyone who things 64 players is laggy. Lol you better tell that to sassilisation Deathrun which have 50 slots with no lag and fast download. I have alot of server operaters standby now :). The gamemode is more likely designed for about 10 - 50 players (or more). Its for teamworking and doing jobs tho.
What do you mean it only stores data on single server boxes? I can get MySQL to be read/written to from any server...
This looks totally awesome. I wish I could see the source. If you need anything derma, I'd be happy to help. One thing though; why orange? It's a little obnoxious, the radioactive orange all over the derma.
I actually had and idea for the skills builder: can construct buildings using the resources held. So that you can build houses and things that you normaly have in mmos but can only build using the resources you obtained. Ex. If you collect wood and have that skill you would be able to build something out of it using the things you have. This would be good by keeping the genre of mmorpg while still utilizing the gmod ability to build from your imagination.
MySQL sucks. It only stores data on single server boxes. MySQL is awesome, it doesn't suck, and storing data on a single box is bollocks, all data has to be stored on "one" box, you get it for other boxes, if needed. You really need a dedicated with maybe 2 big servers, linked via MySQL, or, you could go bigger and have multiple servers, and a central database server, etc.
ah damit i canot wait any more. can you plese just bring out a prototype of what you done so far. cos im going insane waiting for this to come out!!!!

Ohwell that was long ago. I just stick with my own way :)
I can make some model animations for you (player anims, enemy anims, even view models, you name it)
themaw Will you release the server files to the public ? So people can start their own servers ?
I'd actually hope that he doesn't. Anyone who LIKED the game-mode, and was willing to, would just make their own server where they can do whatever-the-fuck they wanted...

Not only is there no cause to quote me there, but your sentiment was entirely un-related. EDIT: Old-Age. The most mature mod around.
Listin to me please. I said this alot of times: THE GAMEMODE IS NOT BEING RELEASED PUBLIC ONLY PLAYABLE BY PUBLIC. SERVERS WILL BE SETUP WHEN DONE!
Could you please give me an answer?
I can make some model animations for you (player anims, enemy anims, even view models, you name it)
If you are going to use multiple maps, use gm_mountainvillage and gm_forestvillage as a few.
If you are going to use multiple maps, use gm_mountainvillage and gm_forestvillage as a few.
They don't have the required objects on the map. And am basicly running this on one giant map.
This seems like it's too good to be true, call me a pessimist but if it's supposed to be an "mmo" then all servers are bound to be shitty and having high ping. Like most RP servers.
No. You don't seem to quite understand how the servers work and how they lagg. Any server with a high internet and atleast a duel core can run 64. I can't run 64 players because my internet is very low. Now what makes an RP Server lagg? I will tell you. What the server laggs of is the objects around the map that the server needs to load. In my gamemode i made sure to stay as low as possible. It will not lagg and it have been proven so far. The only gamemodes i got problem with lagg and high pings are the gamemode called DarkRP. Since it is very outdated and needs a giant fix.
Also I forgot to say that other than animations and v_models (and regular textures) I can do textures. hell yeah I'm invisible, wonder what I'll do next!
Epic doesn't cover how good this gamemode looks! Edit: Also when is the new video going to be coming out?
Epic doesn't cover how good this gamemode looks! Edit: Also when is the new video going to be coming out?
Soon am about to start recording today.
That sounds awesome. (let's see, am I still invisible?)
No reason for this post
If your keeping it private, you better have a decent server to host it, or just "certain" people to host it privately? Still, if you have multiple servers, you should interlink stats accross them all for epic win. And of course, I might be able to help out with this, if you're interested.
ah I i canot wait till this comes out. I will most likely end up adicted to it like i was with naval on harbour.

One, what sort of MySQL are you using, because I've used it. The only time it hasn't worked well, is when I put Drupal on the website of my school's robotics team. It was a GoDaddy Domain. They hosted the MySQL server on a separate box in, from the time it took to send the query and then recieve the stuff I needed, somewhere in China. Or Mars. I don't plan on using GoDaddy again, and I'm pushing to change the domain provider. (Thank god, the domain expires after this year!) Two, Deathrun is mostly map-driven, you won't get much serverside business there. So no wonder a 50-slot Deathrun server can manage to run without a spot of lag. Unless the guy who made the map was some idiot on drugs who just threw in a bunch of random crap and failed to optimize (Hey, like me a few months ago, only without the drugs!), it should run fine. Something like this however, where it's a much more powerful and power/bandwidth-consuming gamemode, might not run so well. On a final note, I saw something that, unless I miscomprehended it, said that you had it so some trees were visible and some weren't, I comprehended it as that trees vanished at a distance. If so, you don't need to do that, there is a feature that makes props vanish at a certain distance (Whoo, map properties). If not, need explanation.

Everyone think that the MAP INSPIRATION means "Gamemode introduction". Apparently its just a map testing on different gamemodes. Reason why the trees are gone is because i was playing old age then sandbox.
How did filming go yesterday? Also read your pm's :)
