Frontier is going to be a more stable, better optimised Space game mode that will make use of the new GMOD hooks, avoid the bloat, and supply us realism roleplayers more to go on (energy systems that make sense and actually exist, visible spacesuits with helmets required etc).
TL:DR version: Frontier isn't going to rape your machine just for floating in space.
As awesome as this sounds, is it really unique? It basicly sounds like a pretty, optimized version of spacebuild. Will any truely unqiue ideas be put forward? Harvestable resources and an economy maybe (Maybe have LS cost money that can be gained by resource harvesting?), or more advanced combat systems than just strapping Gcombat to your spaceship?
Dont get me wrong dev team, this looks absolutely :krad2: . I would just hate to see such an awesome gamemode go to waste by becoming what is essentially a pretty spacebuild clone.
When I first played Spacebuild, I fell in love with it. The idea was new to the G-Mod community and I played the shit out of Shanjaq's creation. Then I lost computer access for around a year and a half. On return, I looked at how Spacebuild was doing during my absence. Half the features didn't work, it lagged more than ever, etc etc.
So, I pitched the idea to Jinto: Make a gamemode almost identical to Spacebuild in concept, but with simplified Life Support and better optimization. And that's how it started. We aren't trying to change the way the game works. We aren't looking to make the core idea unique or different compared to Spacebuild. Because the core idea is perfect the way it is in my opinion.
Also, before anyone says "LOLOLOL YOU STOLE THE IDEA FROM SPACEBUILD", I got Shanjaq's blessing before we started the gamemode. (He's the creator of the original Spacebuild)
Just so you know, the reason I haven't been working on SB for a long time is cause of college and now university. Once I'm done with my exams and stuff I'll be able to work on it all again.
It's not cause I haven't worked on it for a while, that it's been abandoned.
Just so you know that has been common knowledge to probably about three people, and everyone else assumed it was abandoned shortly after you were banned.
Education is a fair reason, but you cannot blame us for assuming it was dead.

Well, nice job. Keep the sparkles going, because this gamemode is what I have been waiting for. Spacebuild was good at start. Think it broke overtime. Guess shit happens.
Besides, is Loki the coder?

I think he answered that already.
Crap I may have misread what you wrote, ehhh...

Holy fuck, I completely forgot about that guy. It's a shame he hasn't come up with anything new as of late, dude was a pretty decent coder. A rose stemming from a pile of feces.

We'll still have fission/fusion plants right?
There better be nuclear power in Frontier...
and it better explode like a muthafucka when overloaded <_>
That's what I missed most about SB1 was making fusion bombs.

Since frontier is tailored more towards realism, and nuclear meltdowns don't trigger a chaotic, atom-splitting mushroom cloud of death, any nuclear power source, for example, the already in-game RTG, would probably not do that. Sorry! Furthermore, reliable Fusion reactors wouldn't do that either.
Reactors don't explode in that sense, rather they, or in the case of three mile and Chernobyl, blow apart into fragments and leak dangerous radioactive particles not unlike that of the size of a particle of dust or sand.
In all honesty, even if contemporary reactors do become implemented, which I doubt, seeing as there are no true nuclear powered ships, the most harm they would do is leak radiation, poisoning any oxygen generating substances on board and quite possible giving the crew of that ship a rather large rad dose.
He's right.
You guys need something to look at I think.

An overloaded Fusion reactor would certainly explode (or implode?) with catastrophic results :ninja:
Are there at least going to be nuclear generators? I do so love me some nuclear generators.
And if I recall correctly they already have prototypes for nuclear reactors in spacecraft don't they? It's not like it would be that hard to stick one in a larger space-ship. They put 'em in submarines and aircraft carriers, after all.
RTG is nuclear power. As for other nuclear stuff, no promises. We're trying to keep it fairly simple.
Don't even know how one would work, let alone be overloaded. We don't have coolant or water as a resource in Frontier. We're keeping it simple, and staying away from using a clusterfuck of devices, resources, systems and whatnot.

Nuclear reactors in ships and submarines can come in the size of a semi-truck or even a house.
Furthermore, you're confusing the concept of a hydrogen bomb, which uses a fusion reaction, with that of a reactor, which of both are completely separate technologies. All current research into fusion reactors point towards a clean reactor with no chance of any kind of radioactive meltdown. Any kind of catastrophic failure of a future fusion reactor would probably be something along the lines of a fragmentation explosion depending upon the size and charge of any battery or capacitor within the building housing the reactor itself. Please do some research on things before you spout out fallacies.
I've done plenty of research on Fusion reactors. It's practically all I read about when I'm bored.
Lithium-Tritium design reactors have the most possibility of a large scale accident. While, I agree, not as volatile as in the videos above (I never said it would be that bad, I just liked the effects) it would still be nasty. Liquid lithium as used in fusion reactors is extremely flammable, and if the reactor were to malfunction and the lithium ignited, it could cause, dependant on how much liquid lithium is stored, quite an explosion. Considering the lithium would be transporting Tritium, it would also release radioactive energy.
*OffTopic* Besides which, Fusion is incredibly hard to replicate...all our Nuclear powered weapons/Reactors use Nuclear FISSION. IE Splitting th atom apart to get the desired energy. Besides which, why do we really care what size these reactors will be? A) It's a Spacebuildy gamemode. it's got crazy shit to begin with. B) It's GMod. do you not think that if there's a will there's a way? C) I want to see Loki eat his toes. Anywho, Valve time. so it'll take 5 years to complete? :P I do have to say that from my understanding, this is like a streamlined, higher tech version of Spacebuild, with life support added as an integral part instead of a stand alone addon (And yes, I'm way oversimplifying it, I know)

As I said before, a fragmentation-like explosion would probably occur. I believe you also meant Transmuting Tritium, not transporting, did you not?
Furthermore, don't most prototype Lithium to Tritium reactors store the respective elements inside of separate tanks in an open-loop system?

I am aware of the difficulty of obtaining Fusion, although we ARE making progress.
The point is, really, though. We don't have suits/ships capable of surviving in Jupiter's atmosphere, but this game mode does. Doesn't matter how realistic they want it, it's not going to be 100%.

Yes, they do, but the liquid lithium still contains the tritium before the seperation process. Even after that there's a good chance the tanks would be close enough to cause a rupture.

And no, I'm not a coder. I can code, but I'm not working with these guys.

I haven't touched Spacebuild since 3 was leaked, I sure as hell am not going back now that I see Frontier.
yeah, it takes too much time to setup right system for LS in the thrid version.

This whole thing is kinda creepy and icky. I have no desire to see Loki eat his own toenails. I don't mind if he does something else, like stuffs his mouth full of marshmallows and dances around to some stupid song in a penguin outfit, though.
In any case...FRONTIER. As is visible in various trailers and screenshots, the LS entities are quite nifty. I recall someone saying there would be support for extra devices, but they were not planning on adding them themselves. Confirm/deny?

Lol. I don't honestly want to see him eating toenails, I'm giving him a hard time.
Loki- Keep your feet pics to yourself, thanks.
