I really hope this gamemode doesn't get dropped. It seems like a much needed refreshment on the whole spacebuild genre.
Probably gonna be slow for a bit. I just moved into a new apartment and Chad's fixing up some important projects.

Thats fine. As long as it doesn't die.
Also, are you guys taking donations or anything? I would love to support this in any way I can.

Same, I am drooling...
I'm willing to donate / support also. This gamemode looks amazing, I can't wait to see it finished and perfect ;D
-Good luck Developers!
This is the coolest gamemode I've seen in a looong time
That's another thing I like about the superlaser that ship has, is the heat distortion and glowy particle effect that runs the length of the ship before the weapon fires.
I was under the impression that was excess energy pooling along the main cannon's firing lines, hence why it builds up along the entire ship and then is expelled.

Also, will there be modular damage or visible damage via components?
like this

I would love to see hull breaches and deck fires and stuff
Hey, I'm loving the gamemode, it looks to be one of the best looking things that has come to Gmod in a very long time. I've got a question though. Judging by the videos and screenshots, this mode seems to make use of the space suits a lot. Does frontier support the use spaceships? Meaning, will the maps have spots to land, and have in-space life support. Or is this primarily for suits? Either way, this mod will kick ass, spaceship or not.

Of course there will be spaceships, why wouldn't there be? The suits are just a means of traveling short distances in space and surviving on an uncolonized world.
This looks amazing. No word can describe how perfect everything seems to be. Only problem is, what is the lag like with about 10 poeple making spaceships? Anyway great work, can't wait for it to be finished. I hope you continue it even when it is released and have your own server with it.
what is the lag like with about 10 poeple making spaceships?
about 10 times less than spacebuild + Life support. That's all you need to know
Only problem is, what is the lag like with about 10 poeple making spaceships?
Incredibly low. Everyone on the server spammed the RD gear, and even with everything there, running, I was getting about 15 FPS, which is amazing on this machine; I usually get 20 MAX in Spacebuild, let alone with anything out.
Ok, that's a slight exaggeration on both parts, but it really is that awesome in terms of lag, there's hardly any, especially if you've got a good machine.
This mod just keeps getting better and better! Especially after seeing the pictures and comments about FPS rates on the test server... Can't wait to switch from SB3 to this!
I have a few questions...
1.Does the Space suit / helmet act similar to the how the Suit Dispenser works in SB3? (As far as oxygen and such) And can you run out of oxygen on your space helmet, if so how do you refill?
2. Is it possible to make players move extremely slow whilst in space, the reason I would like this is so that people can't just noclip into space really fast and then use the speed to carry them to a planet. Idk how to get around this, though... Just would prefer people to actually use ships to get to other planets :\
If any of these questions have been posted before, please direct me :) lol.
I agree with #2, it takes the fun out of things when you spend 20 minutes building a ship, and the guy next to you just noclips.
The space suit, as far as I know, is planned to do what you've asked. And yes, if you take your helmet off in space, you die. Or rather, you will die, as it hasn't been coded yet. (Nor are helmets complete yet, they close over my view so much that I can't see anything.)
In an older revision of Frontier, we had a console command for that. When on, players (unrealistically) slow down instead of gaining large amounts of momentum from a noclip jump like that.
Just make it so that when you pass the atmosphere while noclipping, you slow down and fall back. This would make it look as if you barely failed to reach escape velocity.
Just make it so that when you pass the atmosphere while noclipping, you slow down and fall back. This would make it look as if you barely failed to reach escape velocity.
This would be perfect. Because in real life, you need mass amounts of force to escape not only our atmosphere but the gravitational pull of Earth. So this would not only act somewhat realistically, it would force players to build a ship of some sort.
And let's not speak about the fact that we use Hoverballs/applyForce/whatever to sloooowly cruise out of the atmosphere :pseudo:

Transfinite Antigravity drives, what? :pseudo:
In sb3 My ships are fly with Advanced-gyro pod. How do you manage to fly in frontier? Can you use G-pod or catdaemon's shuttle or the addon contains a new flying module OR we have to build ships with thrusters and hover-testicles like in the old times.
we have to build ships with thrusters and hover-testicles like in the old times.
Most likely not this... Lol, I'm assuming they will have a "Gyro-Pod" like entity. Or atleast something similar.
I would like to know some else too which i've been wondering about all day. Are you making your own ship model packs like SBMP and SBEP or will you just be using them?
I would like to know some else too which i've been wondering about all day. Are you making your own ship model packs like SBMP and SBEP or will you just be using them?
Already asked that, No.
you could use SBEP if you wanted, but unless anythings changed they are'nt making a model pack to accompany this for building ships.
Is there going to be any effects or anything done to props when you enter a planets atmosphere? Like maybe making the props glow orange and smoke or something?
I remember the first time I played Spacebuild, concerning the gravity...
I build a small space ship, a simple thing, 1 cargo container, 2 dumpsters, and some balanced life support. I put some balanced 50,000 power thrusters under it (about 250,000-300,000 power total) and figured "Yeah this should escape the atmosphere"
It just sat there. :smith:
I did a single blue dumpster that was stuffed full of random LS gear; I had no idea how any of it worked, but I linked everything to everything else, which appeared to work. But normal hoverballs/thrusters were disabled, and I didn't know how to use Wire then, so I spammed a buncha 9999999 force balloons on it, which caused it to float up nicely...until I tried to get out and got prop-killed by the dumpster. My ship was later returned to me by a guy with a hoverball-powered ship; he shot all of the balloons, and the thing drifted back down after he nudged it.
/offtopic
Gravity would be really nice; SB3 technically has gravity, I hear, but it doesn't really work all that well. You can also noclip anytime there's an atmosphere, which kind of ruins the effect; I saw a guy flying around, holding a platform with LS gear on it with the physgun.
Most likely not this... Lol, I'm assuming they will have a "Gyro-Pod" like entity. Or atleast something similar.
Well, usually Lazer and I just build ships out of thrusters and frontier entities. We like to do it the classic way, if that's what you want to call it. Mostly because I don't like it when things get too complex and weird. (Despite it being a little more difficult to control. It's like real spaceflight! :sax:)
Fear not, we're looking into control and movement entities, but more important things have to come first.

SB3 has planet-only noclipping as a console command.

such as...?
Yes! Please give us a hint of what your planning!
Just asked the SBEP guys this question:
After one of me and my mates rather odd conversations. I would like to ask for something.
Iguanas.
But i don't want some normal iguana i want a space iguana that has a tendency to gnaw through ships and eat people.
just a idea. although it would make maps with dust clouds more interesting.
