It'll be fantastic when people have worked out how to get ragdolls, players and genetic-algorithm based movement to work together :3 it'll be pretty.
Agreed. :hydrogen:

For those inquiring about the current status of frontier : It's on a mini-hiatus as chad (jinto), the lead coder finishes up Zinger! for Garry to release with the next build of gmod
Or something along those lines. Eh, you guys should get at least something relatively new, even if it's a shitty screenshot.
OH MY FUCKING GOD. /caps
What do you mean?
Current videogame tech is based on animations and drawn models. What people are working on is something called a "genetic algorithm" - they force the ragdoll to "learn" how to move like a human, through the process of artificial selection. Through this process, the ragdoll starts out spazzing, and eventually becomes perfectly lifelike - if it gets shot, it recoils and clutches that part, etc. and is still a ragdoll, so can be thrown around by physical props etc. So two players running into eachother would knock both over lol. TL;DR - It's a way to make lifelike animations
It's a way to make lifelike animations
Like Euphoria but expanded for other animations?
Like Euphoria but expanded for other animations?
YES! It would make gravity/spacebuild related stuff SO awesome e.g. floating away from your ship, grab it with physgun and pull it toward you
YES! It would make gravity/spacebuild related stuff SO awesome e.g. floating away from your ship, grab it with physgun and pull it toward you
sounds like lagopocalypse, everyone having their own ragdoll and stuff
That's some pretty snazzy AI is what that is.
Yep; look up the Euphoria engine. Also, it's not actually very CPU-intensive; an Xbox 360 can run it almost laglessly. It's used in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - pick up some stormtroopers, and hover them near a handle of some sort, you'll be able to see them try and grab on.
Hmm interesting, yes. But I'm more concerned flying around in your home built space ship :P
Yep; look up the Euphoria engine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87qdmuOesRs&feature=related So if you're too lazy to go checkout Euphoria Engine or play GTA IV, then check out that video. Also, thanks for the pics on Frontier!
Yep; look up the Euphoria engine. It is an engine used specifically on 360 hardware, and then ported, more often than not. Gimme a call when they develop a game for PC that uses it that isn't a port.

As I remember I could do some pretty complex (read: lots of collisions, and behaviors) scenes with little or no lag.
A tech demo is not a performance monitor for a game, you of all people should know that.
Yeah, true that, i remember the Nexus 2 tech demo lol. Wish that would have come out for real. So been gone for a bit, loki you eat your toenails yet?
I hope they're delicious.
A tech demo is not a performance monitor for a game, you of all people should know that.
Portal was technically a tech demo. It raeped my computer back in the day.
Portal was technically a tech demo. Alas, my poor wooden integrated graphics card took the full brunt of it Let's just say i got lag worse than Jesus, and everyone knows it took him three days to respawn
Let's just say i got lag worse than Jesus, and everyone knows it took him three days to respawn
I lol'd so hard at this. I realized 99% of the way through the game that all I had to do was stop sharing my main RAM with my video card...once I did that, performance improved 100%. Actually, that's another thought. Frontier runs extremely decently now, but how well is it going to run when it's fully coded? As I recall, environments aren't in yet...
Probably just fine.
Probably just fine.
That's just speculation then again you know generally 10 times more about gmod than i do so... yeah
I have no doubt Frontier will be easily handled on servers and on client's computers... Unless of course someone spams, but that is with any gamemode.
I have no doubt Frontier will be easily handled on servers and on client's computers... This gamemode looks bloody amazing. Good luck with the development.
This could be averted with a particular mod I saw a while ago which prohibited spawning props faster than one per second.
pretty sure assmod can do that, i find it to be very versatile
So is Frontier planned to be moddable? (i.e. easy to add resources and entities for storage/conversion)
