Spaceage is a gamemode that uses research, it saves who you are so every time you join you don't have to research again.
Isn't Spaceage massively broken due to Gmod Updates? ... To my knowledge, most of the Space-related gamemodes are half-assed or broken because no one wanted to keep maintenance. And it only was broken for a few hours after some updates, the problems were always caused by garry.
Yes, we are still working on it. I've been working on a new map and Lazer is still cooking up all kinds of crazy models. We're just going slow in the coding department because Jinto is busy with Zinger.

Hm..what am I allowed to show you.. Here's an early concept for a new Frontier map. [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5459632/fr_industrial3.jpg[/img_thumb]
No what are you doing this is sensitive material. D:
too late now it's saved and i have COPIES i kid
Good god, this whole operation is ruined! Ruined, I say! Off to plan B, anyone? http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=Upload
Lighting. [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5459632/fr_ldiindustries0000.jpg[/img_thumb]
nice.
There is a distinct lack of vague references to mass effect and the USSR. Very disappointing.
I did tell him to put holograms in and stuff.
http://frontier-gmod.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/
Well done, link an unrelated game mode with the same name. This has been floating around for months, it's nothing to do with this mod.
I don't see why you'd link it to everyone anyways, just PM it to DaApocalypse or me.
There is a distinct lack of vague references to mass effect and the USSR. Very disappointing.
Vague? [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5459632/frontier_solarsystem0020%20%282%29.jpg[/img_thumb]
I don't see why you'd link it to everyone anyways, just PM it to DaApocalypse or me.
Because he is trying to be a hero (read: dick) who leaks awesome game modes.
Lighting. [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5459632/fr_ldiindustries0000.jpg[/img_thumb]
Man, I love cold blue lighting and industrial settings...reminds me of my childhood.
Well done, link an unrelated game mode with the same name. This has been floating around for months, it's nothing to do with this mod.
Didn't know that.
Didn't know that.
Doesn't make a difference though, does it?
Perhaps he thought it was a release, and was rushing to be the first one to post it.
Perhaps he thought it was a release, and was rushing to be the first one to post it.
I agree; if he had just looked at the gamemode folder in the link, he would have learned that it was obviously too small to hold the content for Frontier... Which just makes it look like he saw the link, and instantly reacted; without thinking or reasoning out whether or not it was real or fake. Just some advice, always think ahead. No matter the situation.
Wow! It's nice to see that this gamemode haven't died. The concept was way too good to! I have several ideas for you to pick. Hope you'll like them. 1. player physics fix. Okay. Someone was complaining that it's impossible to move on your own in space, the SB jetpack system is retarded and you can't interact with your ship properly, so you can easily drift through the wall out in poen space. Plus there is no way to tilt the player's physboxes. The idea is to make an entity for player to get in (like a space suit). The entity can rotate freely as any physical object, It will bump properly against the hull of your ship. The only question is if it's possible to use the sweps like physgun and toolgun while you're in entity. 2. servers < universe. Hold onto your hats, guys. Many servers run the Spacebuild script since it was written and released. Though most of them look as clones of eachother and people feel no difenece from joining ne server or another. Seeing how cool is Frontier, I guess many communities would like to run this script on their servers. But what if they get connected in one galaxy ang hitting the skybox of the map of the server you are in lets you wander to another solar systems? (aka servers) The expansions, space tpace travels, and neighbourship brings the spacebuild (the way of playing, not the script) to the whole new level! Here is how I see it: There is kind of areaportal at the edges of the map (sides, if we are speaking about the cube of the space maps) When your ship is close to the edge of the ma the dialog pops up where you can choose the server you want to join. The script saves up (aka dupes) your ship and the quantities of the resources you've got in it, sends the console comand ( connect <ip>) and as you join you appear by the edge of the map of the chosen server in your ship, being ready to continue your jorney. Plus, if your community can keep up more than 1 server, you can keep the servers for the planets. So descending into planet redirects you to the server with the map of the surface of the planet you've been landing on. 3. server safe Well this one is one is a task for a team of coders actually, but I'll throw it anyways because.. well, you'll see: It's always sad to see that your marvelous base you've been buiding for a couple of hours or a ship you've been designing with your friends for an equal time died in a server crash. Plus it's really boring to see the empty planets every time you join when the population is low. So what if the server filling saves just like in singleplayer once in 30 minutes or so? Then travelling across the systems would be way more fun! Let alone the chance to find your outpost in a distant solar system up and running after a week of autonomous existance. No more rage about [s]spilled milk[/s] lost work in the server crash! Yea, it will require advanced moderation, like cleaning up the destroyed contraptions leftovers and the structures being not in use for a long time, but meh, that worths it!
Edit: Considering the new toybox feature Gmod can now save up all the entities in the map and load them even without restarting the map. Guess it can be used.
4. sheduled events Well this one is last and pretty simple. Things like meteor showers, solar flashes and EM storms that make your electronics go FUBAR heat up the gameplay dramatically. All of these ideas merge inbetween eachother, especially 2 and 3. It will wind up the interactions between players. Sharing the resources for example. Military expansions, courierism and wandering. I get that it's a hell of work and will require the knowledge beyond LUA (as the universe script will have to transport the info from server to server as player travels between) but it will create the community we haven't seen yet before in garrysmod. Edit2: Daym... after reading through the thread I found out that universe server to server system has been suggested already. Though, maybe the problem was that they used the wrong principal for contraption transfer? Such script doesn't have to do anything but doing this: 1. Save up the contraption as a dupe (txt) file, 2. send command to player's console for him to join the server he's traveling to, 3. Upload that itty-bitty txt file to the server, 4. paste the dupe, 5. treleport the player into the seat he was in. 6. ??????? 7. PROFIT!!! Considering the speed of adv-dupe and the time spend to send 3KB of text it sholdn't be that laggy or difficult, inorite?
-A list of Ideas & Stuff- http://www.facepunch.com/threads/946049-Frontier?p=25756902&viewfull=1#post25756902

1: Try adding controls to the Weapon Seats mod; http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=100167

2: This has already been discussed multiple times and already been attempted, to my knowledge at least, which the results were no good. Seeing as how it would bring tremendous lag to the players already in the server, trying to render the new players objects and space craft. Not to mention transferring LifeSupport data would be really difficult and buggy.

3: Most prop-protection systems have a feature like this; I've seen it done before. So adding something like this wouldn't be too difficult, but you must keep in mind that if someone spams and the server saves all entities within the map, then it would be quite annoying to have to deal with that. (Deleting the file and reverting back to a previous save.)

4: This is quite an interesting idea for RolePlay, seeing as how the more stuff that happens the cooler it is. But for a a Build version of Frontier, I could see how this would quickly get very annoying. Imagine you're building your wondrous ship and then blam, it explodes due to a meteor flying through the air.
Just as an after note, I'm not trying to be mean and tear down all of your ideas because they aren't bad ideas. It is just most of them have been tried before, and ended up being too difficult or too buggy to get working entirely. If you had at least skimmed through the thread you would have seen some of that being discussed. Nonetheless, the thread is extremely long and that is why I summarized it for you; responding to each of your ideas that correspond. ~Good to see people still trying to whip up some ideas and try to contribute to this wonderful gamemode.~

End of discussion.
Well the only reason that those problems still exist is that the right way to solve them haven't been found. Once again the new toybox system seem to save and spawn the whole filling of the server in a second. Maybe this one is going to be the solution. We'll see. Also http://www.facepunch.com/threads/892064-WIP-New-Duplicator-Beta-Testers-Needed About the weapon seat: Well that's now what I was thinking about. I was thinking about the thing like gunship and helicopter SENTs like this one http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=54787 . Why? because you still have to have the ability to enter and exit the seats of your spaceship. It should automatically reapply to you as you exit the seat. Maybe it should work as a Pill? (like the ones that turn you into headcrab or an antlion. Or the driveable pumpkin from toybox, I don't know) Abut the server safe it's the only up to the community and the players in general to be sane and responsible. Plus you can always do a rollback if the "space debris" causes the lag. Also, CDS. It always helped to deal with the things that float in space. The events can be limited to the space for example so the meteors burn down in the atmosphere of the planets people tend to build in. Abd bear in mind SBEP turrets. They deal with such things easily ;] I'm not trying to push my ideas through, I'm just trying to find a way to deal with the issues they can cause or the difficulties with their implementation. As far as you like the concept in general.
Insert Text
It would be adding too much to the GM as well as the work the coders have to do. Frontier (to me) should be simple and easy to use. When you add to much (SBEP/SB3/LS3/etc), the game becomes to stale and boring. SB2 back in the days was awesome because it was easy and fun. It was unstable, but it got the job done.
