Switch to a DDOS protected Dedicated, like we did. And for all others, ban this SteamID should be helpfull.
We've already established the specific hits we're talking about in this channel will take down both NFO and OVH... So stop being a tool.
I postet a review not more.
My server host was hit by lizard squad for having business relationships to PlayStation Network. I was also ddossed 2 days ago by a single user for no apparent reason.
i know i will get alot of hate but most of servers get dosed because they have abusing staff just saying
I only abuse the people that deserve it such as aim bots and 5 year old mic spammers.
Yah, my NFO hosted server. was shutdown randomly for about 15 minutes then came back... people calm down... if you don't like servers just make your damn server.
Don't pay for NFO. Their DDOS protection isn't very great. 20gb is nothing compared to most newer companies. They asked us if we wanted a small upgrade in our CPU for no extra charge so of course I said yes. Well what do you know, they fucked things up and forgot to back up our server...
They're hosted on Internap also... I would go with OVH, better ddos protection and overall a nice company.

OVH servers still give me pretty alright ping in the US, not great but by no means unplayable. I have a server in Quebec and I get ~70-80 ping on it living in Tennessee.
^ There are ovh servers in canada, i think.
I really think the best things to do if you don't want to get DDoSed :
Get a custom gamemode (so kids will not act like "UHHH YOU ARE STEALING MY PLAYERS")
Don't put a community name on the server name, i had a StarShop Troopers Rp server on CW, the name was "StarShip Trooper Roleplay Server"
I had no DDoS, then, few month ago i tried to make an underdone server, with a community name on the server, it was ddosed even before it was a public server (i mean, there was a password when the kid started ddosing the server)
My MilitaryRP was ~30 then it got hit for a couple hours. Now I'm 84th.

pls having a proper community name wont get you ddosed, you just weren't lucky
i have not been ddosed since last time i posted, 99th percentile rp server

Aye, this thread was about a specific surge of specific attacks. The last page of posts have just been stupidity/usual crap about garrysmod drama really.
However, it's more likely that another gaming community just wants more players so they are attacking other game servers running the same gamemode. You can easily find this out by just checking out what server has the most players and isn't being attacked *shrug*.
That's a rather bad advise, and you're essentially encouraging people to assume things based on vague factors. Servers aren't equally vulnerable - hosting can make a large difference. There's many hosts with mitigation systems that can make many attacks less effective. Most DDOS attacks are caused by general jerks who find it amusing and want attention, so to assume that successful servers are attacking others without any evidence will likely lead to false accusations.

So rather then just saying it's bad advice please explain why you believe it's not true.
Because I could say the exact same thing in response to your post about false accusations. How do YOU know someone is just doing it at random because they find it amusing?
How do you know it's not for the reason I said in my post?

20Gbps is actually quite a bit of dedicated bandwidth and the overall location capacity isn't the filtering capacity. Generally much more can be handled due to ACLs and upstream filtering.
I also don't know of any other GSPs(old or new) that have that type of capacity or filtering means.

I did explain why your advice wasn't good. I don't know how you want me to explain why it isn't "true" since you didn't provide any statement of fact. My critique purely goes towards your advice since it encourages an approach that doesn't rely on any solid factors, but rather paranoia and vague assumptions.
You essentially tell people to blame servers that don't appeared to be attacked for all DDOS attacks in Garry's Mod, just because they don't appear to be attacked. Tons of people have capability to DDOS servers, and servers aren't necessarily equally vulnerable - hence, your advice is poor to put it bluntly.
When I say that most attackers are general jerks seeking attention rather than communities, I say that based on experience of when my community has been attacked. It's a belief of mine, and admittedly it's arguable.

That's right I didn't provide any statement of fact because it's not an accusation.
What I posted was a possible scenario.

Does sound more like an advice or instruction rather than a "possible scenario" to me. I repeat once more, I criticise your advice. I know you haven't made any accusations.

Okay I'm not going to continue to argue about this in someone elses thread. Feel free to take it up with me in PM if you want to discuss it with me.
May be a bit late here but anyone with DDoS questions or issues can feel free to message me. I can answer questions and solve your problems with DDoS Attacks.
u32 match HTTP/1.1 200 OK in a UDP packet at the specific location in the packet it starts at. More work but much faster. That's the first reference to SSDP/UPnP attacks that doesn't come from port 1900 I've ever seen. Very strange.
Rewrote this a few days ago just in time for an attack.
iptables -I INPUT -p udp -m u32 --u32 '0>>22&0x3C@8=0x48545450 && 0>>22&0x3C@12=0x2F312E31 && 0>>22&0x3C@16=0x20323030 && 0>>22&0x3C@20=0x204F4B0D' -j DROP

What exactly does that do? I know it redirects certain ips and stuff but that's a whole lot of symbols x.x

This is for a very specific attack that not everyone would probably see..(it was mentioned earlier in this thread) it looks for the "HTTP/1.1 200 OK" string at the start of udp packets; these packets come from home routers with security holes that are being used like a bot net to attack targets.
There is a new exploit to DDoS using GSM and 3G, heads up. A couple of people already got it.
