Even a couple of people buying a d0nator rank is usually enough to run the server for a month. Hence pretty much everybody with a decent playerbase and VIP bullshit are making profit. They claim the money goes entirely to "server costs" and the usual customers, children, buy this. 2. DarkRP doesn't encourage people to do shit other than make money, or even that, depending on the economy. If I over-simplify a bit, it's just a GUI where you can pick a job and buy printers. How it all plays out depends entirely on the players. What I'm seeing today, is that for new people, usually kids, it's their first RP experience in gaming. They don't really understand it, so they just choose to play it like some class based shooter, where you can kill people in accordance to the rules and make money with printers. It can also be different with people who understand what roleplaying means. E.g. every FP server we've had has been like this. I don't mean serious rp either, no HL2RP level, text based shit. Just people sticking to their characters and not propsurfing to the skybox, sitting on top of their printers and discussing why Israel are being cunts while shooting the other guy doing the exact same thing at the other end of the skybox.

Had a 16yo on my server who bought GMod 2h before joining me, no idea how he bypassed the time check... Guess it was due to his profile being private but his friend who brought him to my server, told me the playtime... Saw that kid spamming the hell out of my server with the rope tool and instabanned him for 2 weeks and his friend raged on me why I did this because that kid didn't do anything. Then I showed him the console log and checked which server he and the kid joined at next... "German TTT #3" nuff said.

You said "a" darkRP server, to verify this, I went to elpishost, checked the price of a 40 slot server on a 3 month payment cycle. Every 3 months I'd have to pay 78.57$ to keep the server alive. I don't even have a job and I'd be able to afford that. For the amount of time I'd spend with a server it'd be a very cost-effective hobby. Roleplayers that don't roleplay, and the easy weld, not working properly. Also the workshop things thats completely useless. And the long loading times when joining servers. Those are the main things.

Another problem is dealing with the constant breaking of immersion by admins and players screaming, "I GET U BANNED FOR THAT" which also you know makes it impossible to have fun at all. The servers I tend to have the most fun and roleplay in are servers that have admins which are either relaxed or corrupt. Mixture of the two is the best.

IMO the only reason to add jobs in addition to the default ones should be because it adds abilities they wouldn't have without being the job. At least in DarkRP.
