ScriptFodder. It's not worth 15 dollars, and if you ask me it's a rip off.
Coderhire's owner made out like a bandit with [B]$1455[/B] with [B]97[/B] users (97x15=$1455) right before it got shut down. I guess I can understand he left due to health concerns however, in my opinion it sounded like an excuse for something else; perhaps laziness. Then again I don't know this guy personally and I can't judge too accurately.
1) People would pirate other people's hard work.
2) People can buy their own scripts to increase their "Purchase Count" since payments [B]do not[/B] go through coderhire/scriptfodder directly. Not an argument, this is possible and can happen.
3) People can resell crappy code or code they didn't create.
4) I was scammed the first two times using it. After finishing the work, the buyer didn't want to pay both times. A bit personal, but I feel like it applied to a lot of people.
5) **Opinion** The whole "Coderhire has dealt with $400,000," I felt was a lie. If it wasn't a lie, then it's sad. If coderhire had 97 users all contributed 15 dollars (lets assume no one has subscriptions for free) Even if every user sold 20 dollars each, it still wouldn't add up to $400,000. Adam or what ever his name is lied to reap the benefits of gmoders.
6) Also, it's easy to lie about how many "Active users" are online considering it uses Steam Login. Once you log in, you remain apart of the member list?
This is what gets me mad, that the owners of these websites get away with siphoning money from unsuspecting people. [U]It doesn't benefit the coders because LUA is stolen too easily.[/U]
Also what gets me mad is that 97 people actually fell for this idea.
For the people that ScriptFodder or Coderhire has made you big profits, I have no idea how you did it.
If you're complaining about the $15 payment for ScriptFodder, do you have a problem with the way Valve demands payment to upload something onto Steam Greenlight? If you haven't thought about this before, go look up why Valve implemented it because it's an interesting read and fits quite well here
Want another example? Anyone can upload to the Steam Workshop, hence why there is a lot of garbage on there. Having to pay actual money irons out most trolls and requires effort on the users part. I guarantee if there wasn't a fee, people would complain anyway, about standards control :v:
Lastly, give me an example of a script that never a profit, since most of the ones I've looked at have and I think it'd be interesting to look at them. If you're making something to sell, and don't for a second take into consideration what Gmod users actually want, then I find it hard to sympathize with you simply because it's not their fault for not wanting your product

I have no problem paying Greenlight fees because it acts as a sponsor, aka Valve. Which by the way to some peoples shock, is actually a legitimate company. (oooh burn)
You are basically paying money to advertise. ScriptFodder does it's job in that aspect, I can respect that. I understand that filtering out the crap from the great is what the money subscription is intended for. However, because of the fact we're dealing with [B]LUA[/B], (Something that could be copied and pasted literally with a couple key taps) I think it's stupid.
I pay $15 so I get on this "special" list.
Someone reads the list, seeks me out and says I want to buy your script.
User buys script, isn't happy with the support, decides: "Hey, you know what would be fucking great?"
User uploads script for friends.
I just wasted 15 dollars and my time.
Someone could claim [B]fraud[/B] on their payment to their credit cards after receiving the lua. Same issue except now YOU have to pay the fee now.
I had one person who I removed off of my friends list that was offering me a "coderhire" pack in exchange for donator rank on a server. So you have people going around circulating scripts for donator rank on a server. I wouldn't be surprised if that server was using coderhire to begin with.
It's a race to see how quickly you upload your scripts before it gets stolen which only takes a CTRL+C and a CTRL+V.
Eventually there's going to be a huge saturation of scripts that will be passed around (maybe uploaded to the Steam Workshop LOLOL). You'll have people using stolen scripts and they wont even know it (It's already happening) Or they will know it but they wont care. People will be arguing about who coded what, what belongs to whom, etc....
You have to trust your customer not to leak your script. All it takes is some googling to sidestep the whole business model that ScriptFodder is.
[B]PLUS[/B] There it's not a guarantee anyone will buy your scripts to begin with. You pay 15 dollars to be apart of something that can potentially lead you to nothing.
Since there's such a high standard ($15 which for me, personally is a lot) to be apart of ScriptFodder, everyone will try to create something unique and it would be such a shame to see hard work go straight to pastebin.
I'm sure you can assume people will always buy your scripts without first googling what they want (Just freakin google 'DarkRP Lua HUD').
The bottom line is, there's more potential to fail then there is to succeed. Marketing LUA as a sure thing has it's ups and it's downs. I'm strongly against paying a service to do what I could do personally. Easily I could write on the server's forums or contact the admins. I'm not saying there's absolutely no potential to make money, I'm sure there's people reading this that are shaking their head. Maybe I'm wrong, perhaps ScriptFodder is going to be better than coderhire. [B][U]I'm sure though with any business, money is first priority and this business is out for your money otherwise it wouldn't exist.[/U][/B]

Selling it directly still has the chance of your code being leaked, however at least you're not down 15 dollars.
I'd rather spend that 15 dollars on something worth it.
I forgot to mention that 15 dollars a month can also pay for a gym membership.
