I used to model a lot back in 2011, mainly to mod GTA and such, if I showed things like that people would just laugh at me, and then give me advice on how to improve things.
I'm in the middle of making a DarkRP server and need some ideas, and I know you guys love to moan about DarkRP, so, any ideas?
You need about 12 money printers, each with ridiculous names like "Aerosmith Printer" or "<your community name> Printer". Each printer should never blow up, and return even after about 15 minutes of sitting in your base. Add a rule where people need to build their base in a certain way, outlawing shit like 1 way fences and invisible maze rules. Also force every builder to put a text screen containing the code to the keypad next to it. Allow KOS lines, kidnappings, muggings, and theft, and do not put a monetary limit on these things. Install M9K and make the standard gun dealer sell only the handguns, while a donator only class known as the "Heavy Gun Dealer" which uses the EXACT same model can sell all other weapons and at a reduced price. Make about 4 or 5 "SWAT" or "Military" jobs that spawn with excess health, armor and guns, make them donator only. Add Durgz, and make a drug dealer job. Add a whole bunch of "you cant kill hobo's" rules and "Hobos can do what they want" rules so all the minges have a job for themselves.
Now these last steps are absolutely important. You MUST add "STAFF NEEDED" and "CUSTOM JOBS" and "DONATOR" to the server name. Offer donator for $15 via Paypal. Also make admin purchasable for $25. Finally, goto scriptfodder and buy as many scripts as you can for DarkRP. (If you are poor, google desperately for leaks of your fav scriptfodder scripts that are not bugged or backdoor'd).
Now that you have your brilliant server that totally stands out from the 20 thousand of its kind, you can now start getting players. Go on other DarkRP server's nearby your server, and start adding as many people as possible. Offer them in-game perks if they play on your server instead, and offer them donator if they invite lots of people. Keep this up until you average about 70% capacity throughout the day.
From there, you need to stop giving a fuck. Pay more attention to other games like Rust and DayZ. Neglect the server while its down or being DDoS'd, and use the server's news feed as your personal blog. Once your fans see you jump into CS:GO, that's when you have reached the end of your server's life.

Make all your admins passive, make their commands silenced, don't give them a special tag and don't display there rank and encourage them to do their admin activities where no-one can see them.
A player should never know when a specific admin is online instead just put "x admins are online" and discourage the use of the powers for non administrative needs.

This, a million times this. I'd even go so far as to nix the admin count and provide a vague "use <function> to contact an admin" instead (we had a lua script listening for any variation of ADMIN 2 ME which would drop the chatline and return "type @ 'this player is breaking the rules!' to contact staff.") You'd be amazed how many shitbirds disconnect or immediately resort to overt and easily bannable trolling tactics when they don't get an answer to "Any admins online?" and can't figure it out
also revoke ulx who from normals

Administration becomes so much better when the players don't actually know there are admins on. You'll catch more rulebreakers and you'll also teach other players that there just might be an admin watching at any time and they could never know.
Something that happens too often (on a server I administrate) is that I'll try to RP normally, and then someone breaks a rule right in front of me and ruined RP or something. Then I kindly inform them that they broke a rule, explain to them what the rule was, and tell them to come back to continue whatever RP it was and just ignore that rule break. The normal response from them is then "lol what u gonna do there is no admin you have no proof faggot". Then I just do something like put on the admin tag and just say something, and the next thing they say is "i was just kidding lol i didnt mean it sry for breaknig rules i will come back" and the next thing I do is ban them because that is exactly how you spot someone who doesn't give a fuck about the rules or other players and honestly don't deserve to play on your server.
Fun times.
And I have been banned from Naval Play for telling an admin to not be overbearing with the rules. For three months. Because ya know, that's an insult.
Good idea, but you can never hide who's admin from players. Even if the scripts don't tell them, admins or friends of admins will leak that information through chat/voice. That said, the scripts/commands not saying who's admin does help.
Simply make it so an admin can put in a command and it hides who they are when they talk on mic/chat so they can talk annoymously
Simply make it so an admin can put in a command and it hides who they are when they talk on mic/chat so they can talk annoymously
By mic and chat I meant that you can see it in their behaviour. When I was admin, I often gave verbal warnings. I'm not a stuck up cunt, so I'll allow players to argue with my decisions. People would find out that I'm an admin, and in that moment they should, because my behaviour as an admin affects them directly, and they should be able to discuss it.
I've often thought about making an "anonymous admin" feature in FAdmin, but I have no idea how I would do it effectively and in such way that it makes admins and or players behave better.

Eh, we've made it a rule that it's a bannable offense to give information to others of "disguised" admins, as we call them. Admins are capable of changing their IC name at will to assist in staying disguised. Couple that with an OOC name change and people aren't likely to find out that you are in fact an admin.

Never trust the client. The best way is making sure the player does not receive the information in the first place. This includes things like the NWString UserGroup.

It's a shame. If only there was a well optimized entity where you could walk up, press E on it, and aim and fire a machine gun! And that entity should look reasonably good, while only consisting of approximately 400 polys total. And oh golly gee, what a world we'd live in if the guy who had it made actually offered it to SGC in mid-2014.
http://www.filedropper.com/emplacements_2 Give it a try, if you want. This folder contains a lot of the content from my gamemode that never happened, so feel free to explore and recycle it.

I understand you're trying to be sarcastic, but you're right on the money. The playerbase is 12-18 usually, the moderators are all under 17(or act like it), and the administrators are hilariously incompetent at running a gamemode/community. The two head honchos literally do not care about the gamemode or community anymore, and can't do much more than hold grudges and act on their own arrogance. In a year of playing I've literally never seen them actually PLAYING it.
Learn Lua and do it yourself
Learn Lua and do it yourself
I wouldn't trust myself to. A gamemode like this needs to be well optimized considering how much the source engine hates water physics. On top of that I tried coding, I'm just not tuned for it.

Old SGC Admin here, No longer am due to how much I got fed up with being in the clan and other real life issues.
anyway I was one of the relatively newer members and admins of the clan and well decided to join because I was having fun with the game mode somewhere from 2013 to November 2014.
During that time the game mode came back since its closure long ago. This time it was a slow progress as they began to rework on the damage system and add new features, However this was mostly a one man project, yet it was coming along nicely. I was just a regular player, but i will say, Old members such as Red Death, Courier and a few other older players and admins. They where really cool guys, who helped out and were frequent players too. Problem was as the server began to expand we were having problems with EU timezone players and Us players So I was made a moderator and then an admin. Things where good and some rules where added and removed. Such as arming of Blimps with cannons and blimp on blimp warfare. However it seems that there was some internal conflict, the Co-owners did not really like the older admins. Do not know, possible some grudge, I even heard the topic of black-mail come up but kinda thought it was bull. So first there was banning of one admin, who then got angry that he got banned for no reason, anyone who went questioned it got banned as well. Courier was an admin and he got banned because of some problem with him creating his own game mode. Red Death was banned because well Alteran had a problem/grudge with him, shame he was an awesome guy and it felt bad that he got banned.
This is when shit started going down hill. Way more admins and mods where being added. The reason that it was hard to become an admin in sgc was that because most of the older players did not need more admins, But since they were banned this opened up more chances of mods and admins, Most of which did not have experience, Most of which where young or ban happy.
Anyway onto the topic of Old MOTD. There where old rules such as 1 person per turret. No Blimp on Boat combat, No plane machine gun strafing and lots of older hidden rules.
Also until recently there was no progress being made on the game mode, Only after one member began to say about the lack of progress and lots of promises. Surprise Surprise he gets demoted for "Demoralization."
There is a lot more stuff that happened but its like 3am I'm tired as hell.

Technically, I got demoted and permanently banned because I was actively making another gamemode(that I explicitly said I wanted to operate under SGC, so it wouldn't compete with them) and asking players to show their support for the stuff I had in mind against a ridiculously stubborn administration. That, and I wouldn't keep quiet about the blatant mismanagement of the clan, while providing indisputable examples. I drew a line in the sand over the no-planes-attacking-boats rule since it was a self created problem. When they originally implemented the machine guns(which were at first HL2 smg props since they refused to use ANY of the content I had created and so willingly offered them), a rule was made that they were to be used ONLY by planes. Anyone using them on a gimbal anti-aircraft turret was banned for three days to a week. Because of this, boats were made 'defenseless'(disregarding the fact that the machine guns were REALLY, REALLY weak and inaccurate, and couldn't sink the smallest of ships with it's limited ammunition supply). Combined with the fact that airplanes occasionally unintentionally kamikazid into boats trying to strafe- they made the rule that airplanes can't strafe boats anymore. A stupid rule to fix a hole left by another stupid rule. I tried explaining that you CAN NOT possibly run a sandbox gamemode like that- it's just not user-friendly in the slightest.

I would actually be interested but at the moment i have too much shit on my plate (coding a new RP gamemode as well as more shit to sell on SF cos bills are kicking my ass)
maybe in the future when I have some free time i could lend a helping hand
[sp] plus coding naval warfare entities would be a nice challenge, I've previously made a small addon for wiremod that adds various weapons to it that's being used on this server (spoiler for server advertising): 119.252.190.73:27420[/sp]
