I've got an RP server set up (Don't feel like getting a host or making it an actual server.) and eh.. The only thing you'd really have to download is the basic crap for SCARS slim. All the cars (the 3 base ones + 2 ones made in the editor) use HL2 models soo... No extra downloads needed.
I was playing DarkRP, and when I criticized how you're a ghost for a minute and you can't do anything; they banned me. The problem is server owners can't handle criticism. You give a logical opinion and reasons, and when you're right they just start banning. When I said I didn't like it, the owner egged me on to tell him more. I told him potential players will die, see the ghost, and leave. He said, "Tell me more." So I said some guy might even get mad at the ghost after being killed and DDoS. They assume I was referring to myself when I obviously wasn't, and so the owner pastes my IP into chat. I told them I knew more about making a nuclear bomb than how to DDoS. After asking the owner why he can't handle criticism, he ends up banning me because of disrespect. I tried to add him on Steam and he just ignored it. It's not just like this with this server, but it's like it with many DarkRP servers; sometimes even servers that don't use DarkRP. I usually end up concluding I never even should of joined DarkRP to begin with, but I really enjoy the innovation possible. Whether it's making automatic gun shops, shooting ranges with score counters, fancy printer collectors, or whatever else that comes to mind. I usually end up going to DarkRP to have fun, but end up having none because the server is composed of shit.

I love making gun ranges and stuff like that. I literally only play for that sole purpose. 95% of the time I'm in my favorite Sandbox server.

Just minding my own business in a DarkRP sever that I was actually having a good time, but then some kid walks up to me just literally after I spawned and litterly says: "DROP FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR SRIGHT NOW OR DIE YOU HAVE THREE SECONDS.", so I throw couches at him to cover myself so I can at-least get into the forest. S2M is a busted-arse, terrible, ridiculous rule that goes against all logic. If I wanted to use a gun, I'd use it for its intended purpose, to kill people. Uselessly using ammo to shoot into the air is stupid and illogical. It is a staged, unesseceary rule that shouldn't even exist in the first place.

If they really want gun fights to last longer, then do 2 (Kinda 3) things:
1.) Reduce weapon accuracy.
1b.) Add weapon sway.
2.) Make people have a desire to live. Right now in DarkRP you can literally just go buy an AK, shoot some shit up, get killed, respawn, get another AK, repeat.
(mini edit) Also, make Medkits more available. 95% of the time servers have weapons that do like, 30-40 damage per shot so it's nigh impossible to have gunfights longer than 10 seconds. Personally I suggest having medkits as an actual swep that you use to heal your self and you can only get ammo by picking up medkits of some sort (non-healontouch). (mini edit over)
Make something where you loose a decent sum of money....
Anywho, I hate when servers have maps that I literally cannot find ANYWHERE. (Workshop or otherwise). I mean it's like, you want me to play on your server, but you can't have the decency to at least have FastDL for the map.

Expensive guns only work if the players aren't rolling in dosh, which is hard to find in any DarkRP server that's been up more than a day. Along with this, make weapons DIFFICULT to get (say, craft them from scattered parts) and you'd have a semi-working weapon system.. until somebody decides to arrest the whole server and it all goes to hell.
S2M is a rule for people who can't think far enough to see why combat is the way it is. Enforce rules as much as possible with game mechanics, this reduces:
A) False admin calls
B) Rule breaking
C) 100-page MOTDs

I've been hosting a DarkRP server for 2 weeks now, which doesn't have any custom models. Really hate those owners who just put 100MB of shit on their server for everyone to download.
It's not really popular at the moment though. Was doing great for a week but then the player count just dropped.

I think hitboxes for the player are universal across almost all gamemodes. Exceptions would be prophunt and the likes where the player model is made non-human size.
The reason (Why I think anyway) all gamemodes use roughly the same hit-boxes is because most, if not all, playermodels use roughly the same shape/size. That and there's probably some issues with changing up the hitbox anywho.

i think kids are too often ridiculed, even if they are decent players. this is not fair, i rather be playing with some 11 year old who actually plays the game than some 20 year old prop spammer
People adding me from workshop addons I made and then not responding, when I ask them why they added me.
I hate it on Roleplay servers when people only get rich because they have rich friends and so, while making it so your average Joe can barely find items to sell at all (looking at you TnB)
RP servers where the only good ways to make moolah are printers or gun dealer. (BYB in a nutshell)
Kids.
Squeakers. Prop pushers. Prop spammers. All of this because they're "bored". And kiddos who think they're cool by saying hack/DDoS threats.
Thank goodness the build server I go on has pretty good staff.
