All roleplay gamemodes as of the moment are pretty terrible. Most of them are just re-painting the gamemode's menus and calling it 'unique' and not pushing the boundaries of what is known.
Not being able to connect to a server with doubleclick in the server browser.
Just when your finished building and are about to save it, it crashes and you lose it.
Sure, I'll learn it... Lets see what I can do!
I make ration-cookies by using things inside the ration pack, and water from vend- Oh wait, that's contraband, and it's considered FailRP.
Maybe I'll make an series of books based on my character's story, and sell th- Oh wait, that's contraband as well.
Maybe I can help maintain an factory line- Oh wait, nevermind... Can't do that because the COMBEEN magically produce everything.
My grudge with SeriousRP is it's lackluster. You are trapped in a constant cycle of being tortured or beaten, and you are expected to make a collaborative story with crappy restraints and restrictions. Not to mention, everything is controlled by the admins. The players have little to no control over the events of the story/roleplay.
It's just fucking boring, and way too restrictive.
You've been on some very bad servers, why would water be contrband..
When I can't pose ragdolls properly, i.e. they just freak out and mess up. That's the only reason I consider using SFM, otherwise I stick with Gmod.
I don't play multiplayer much, so apparently I'm free from that exasperation.
You've been on some very bad servers, why would water be contrband..
Combination of food items[or creation of new foods] is contraband, and is considered FailRP, on most HL2RP servers.
It's for this very reason that I rarely support SeriousRP or LiteRP. So much restrictions on creativity.

I've never run into that. You've been on some bad servers then boy because from what you described is not normal.
Also if anything SeriousRP makes you think about and be creative. You have restrictions and you need to build a character from that. If you don't have creativity, don't roleplay. It won't get you anywhere without it.
Also making cookies our of Ration packets would be fine as long as you can't bake them because the combeen don't let you have heating surfaces.
So far you can keep a journal just don't sell it or anything.
Some servers have it so you can become part of the Civil Workers Union. It has jobs like the factor line that and others.

Yet in every HL2RP map there are stoves everywhere.
I dunno, I try to make HL2RP fun. The Combine is a background motivation, with CPs and rebels being an extra. The gameplay is focused on civilians. Every day is something new and different, with big events happening on a weekend.
Of course, not too many people played it due to its constant DDoS giving it an uptime of maybe 3 days out of the week.
Okay. Fuck DARKRP. I have fucking sworn to prop crash any server that seems like shit. Server rampant with prebbs and prop killing script kiddies? I will spam crane_interior.mdl over and over, spam muscle constraints everywhere and winches, physgun it around and bam, server crash. Admins are often too fucking dumb and lazy to blacklist those props that arent in construction list\comic list so it's really easy to crash a server that doesn't deserve to have players on it. Only the good servers will be safe from my wrath. I don't feel that prop killers and script kiddies deserve to play. I know you're thinking "wow look at this egotistical asshole how is he better than ayone else he's just as bad as those motherfuckers"
You're right. I am an egotistical asshole for doing this. But im fucking sick of the horrors in the GMod community.
hey thanks for your steam page buddy

shame, 404. guessing this is you.

I don't understand why other communities need to find the need to compete with mine over who has the most members. I'm tired of most community chat being about who is better over another. It was never about that.
And to agree with many on here, I am tired of admin being treated as a product, rather than a privilege and responsibility. Especially these people constantly wanting to donate and always wanting power in return. I always felt that defeated the purpose of it being a donation. I never accepted them because of this.
Personal problems, I guess. But related to Gmod nonetheless.

Just wishing they had the same mindset.

- The usual "His chair is lagging the server!" when everyone's ping is below fucking 20.
Didn't think of it myself, but now I've read somebody has said it... This! And who's still telling all these darn kids that people with higher pings cause the entire server to slow down?
pathetic lua errors when testing code

That's another issue I've got with SeriousRP. Flags.
Why must I be flagged to do anything[aside from metropolice]? This only increases elitism, and alienates new players.
And who's still telling all these darn kids that people with higher pings cause the entire server to slow down?
I never did understand where that idea came from. The only game I've played where other people's pings were a problem was Starcraft. lol
That's another issue I've got with SeriousRP. Flags.

I have to agree with you on that one. It's why you have to do some research and normally people don't want to do some research over a game. Also how does that increase elitism?
On a side-note: Serious RP has gotten me to use good grammar.
Also a thing that gets me mad is the god damn "Something is creating script errors" or "______ mod is creating script errors."
Elitism creates player alienation, and vise versa, for example...
Most Semi-Serious[or Lite] gamemodes have an issue where they believe "Hours Played = Experience" and thanks to this they'll constantly enforce things such as, 'You need 10 hours before playing X'
This form of elitism causes a great deal of alienation on new players and in some respects promotes the image of a low-hour savage, which destroys RP.
In the cases of the flagging system, it can make certain players feel absolutely powerless and useless in the roleplay. The terms for signing up for these flags is also bullshit, considering the entire system is a 'goodboy' system where friends of admins are more-likely to get in, and at that point it's not dependent on how good of a roleplayer you are.
Also a thing that gets me mad is the god damn "Something is creating script errors" or "______ mod is creating script errors."
Me and garry had a Twitter conversation about that and here's the last 2 tweets of it:
@garrynewman My point is, can you just add a command that disables the error messages at the top left of the screen?

@mitterdoo No. The way to get rid of the errors is to fix them. I'm the one that gets the blame if people can't see the addon is erroring.
How lame. The messages are fucking annoying and he mentioned disabling the addon. Sometimes the addon works perfectly fine after the error comes up.
DarkRP
I shouldn't have to say anymore.
Also, the DDoSers.
Darkrp can be fun if you don't play it seriously and don't go on any strict servers. Shooting down the door of a gangster hideout then taking all their shit. As a hobo. Priceless.
Also, I really, REALLY hate it when I make a simple contraption out of 6-7 props only to have some 9 year old admin say "ughhgg laaagggggggggggggg" over the mic then delete my contraption.
And trying to click on a server that you want to join while the server list is refreshing, then accidentally joining a fastdl hardcore furry yiff rp server as the server you wanted to join shifts away from your cursor.
The fact that "workshop admins" apparently exist yet the workshop is never cleaned up.
The saves are an amazing feature in my opinion, if utilized properly there can be really great results. But as many have said before, it's clogged with sex poses and bull shit.
The same with dupes, a great feature in game that is destroyed by all of the bullshit clogging it. I don't know how the rating system works, but most of the time it's a single ragdoll that is in some obscure pack, uploaded to dupes and wouldn't work at all for most players getting hundreds of high ratings. I've found some really great stuff in the dupes about 9 pages in past all of the shit.
I hate how awesome these things could be but they aren't because they lack moderation.
when gmod crashes
Fucking RealCSS weapons and their laggy nontoggleable effects
Seriously how did that crap survive the transition to 13?
When everyone is having fun on darkrp in a raid, a mod comes in and ruins it and everyone gets mad.
Workshop spam, and little kids being idiots on servers.
- Squeakers
- RDMers and Raiders in DarkRP
- Mingebags
- Abusive admins
- Proppusher and propkillers
- People screaming "LAG"
- People requesting to remove a prop for a bullshit reason (ex: lag because they have a shitty computer)
and earlier I was playing on this server some dude asked a dude to remove the lights off the stage (We were using PlayX to broadcast music wide and we had it hosted on a stage with many lights) and then we ask him why he has lag, we said his computer is terrible then the requester eventually stumbled into how his family has no money and their dad is in prison.
SHUT UP. If you don't have money, YOU WOULDN'T BE PLAYING GMOD OR BE ABLE TO AFFORD A COMPUTER AND WON'T BE ABLE TO AFFORD GMOD. TAKE YOUR GODDAMN DRAMA TO THE IDIOT CORNER.
Sorry. This just pisses me off.
Let me get this straight.
Just because your parents bought you an overpowered PC doesn't mean that everyone can afford it. People like you are the actual problem. In my country 400 euro is considered a normal salary and 600 euro is a high one. When you pay all bills, buy food, leave some money for more food, you end up with no money.
"you can buy a PC that will run source engine games at 300 fps for $400" isn't an option either, since I can't just spare 400 dollars, and it will be waste, I'd better keep with my current PC. And owning GMod doesn't mean that you can buy a new PC, what if all of my games were bought from friends or I saved up for them? GMod is a 10 dollars game, not a 100 dollars one so this is an invalid argument.
Also, if you want people me or someone else stop complaining, feel free to gift them/me a powerful PC. Until that moment comes, fuck off.

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS
[editline]10th January 2013[/editline]
Sorry Swog; you're a great poster but you're being a sterotypical PC gaming nazi
any word on when the cl_drawhud issue might be fixed?
I just bound "<respective directional keybind>;cl_drawhud 1" to W A S and D... :c
Maybe if addon creators were smart enough to consider people with low end computers, they could have added options to disable such laggy effects, or features, e.g. PhysX.
I however think there is an option to disable it?
