-what a story-
Watching Gmod's RP situation today, I can barely believe RP in Gmod used to be like this years ago. Minus DDOS and DOX bullshit that was pulled off (that is still being made), I wish I had been around Gmod a few years earlier.
At the time of the Fish Market Collapse their was five main corporations in the server that had a hand in pretty much everything related to the fish market: Kumonryu Trading Guild(mine), FUMUKU International, Quicksilvers Industries, Black Mesa Traders, and a group which I cannot remember. Right before the collapse of the fish market, all these groups met up in a very extravagant meeting, and were discussing how to go about politicizing the concept of having things like farming, mining, and otherwise added to the server in order to increase the amount of trade and markets in the server. While this was going in a local fish monger stormed into the meeting room, and ran over to the guys he was doing business with(Quicksilver) and pretty much made it clear to them that the fish market was under attack after a downfall in price from $660 to $300 and he was trying to figure out what to do. With that we all vowed to withdraw from the Fish Market, and pulled all of our stalls before our own people got hurt. This message didn't reach all of the people in our industries, so we ended up having a few people get the full wraith of protesting labourers who were trying to sell fish, but no one was purchasing. After a few got kidnapped, the protesters got organized and started using DDoS programs on players to extort them for money and such. Basically: Drop your inventory, cash, and passwords for your groups NOW. This type of deal progressed for about two weeks before the Big 5 met up again and discussed the rational options we could go about, and their was a split of interest with two groups saying we should ignore it, while the other three groups, Kumonryu, Quicksilver, and FUMUKU stated we should strike back via contra raids and activities involving the police. This is where Kumonryu Trading Guild's main activities became the Kumonryu Tiger Force, FUMUKU International increased it's security and PMC operations, and Quicksilver became the Shadow Associates Agency and Black Talon Inc. All four groups did their own things with FUMUKU, SAA, and Black Talon providing security work as well as selling military grade equipment to organized governments and such, and at the same time a majority of us were involved in what commonly became known as Doomfort Raids. Even moreso for users playing as the government who were expected to take these buildings with a handgun or light SMG. The groups at the time acknowledged this and went about producing vehicles that would protect government employees, as well as allow for easier deployment of Doomfort Raider teams into the fray with minimal casualties. One of the first deployed vehicles was the FUMUKU Hovering Armored Personnel Carrier or HAPC. Because of the efficency of the HAPC, some contrafarmers actually went to naming it, "The Humblee Bumblee Bee of Death" as your chances of winning once a HAPC was deployed with four SS Agents on board as well as supporting PMCs was pretty negligible to be honest. The only time I recall the HAPC actually going down was when we were in a raid being conducted in a forest setting, and when we were coming in to rappel be the enemies walls, two guys jumped from a tree line and tossed molotovs at us while the HAPC was hovering 10 meters from the ground, everyone died outside the pilot and one door gunner, and they had to be later ransomed back to HQ. Overall, Fearless was pretty interesting for the most part.
You know, that's almost sounding like what went on in Russia in the early 1900s except instead of Corporations it was Government and instead of a Market crash it was WWI causing the inflation. Fuck, Fearless has to be a damn good server to have actual market crashes and that sort of thing.
JoeSkylynx has so many tales about Gmod Roleplay, it's great It's like he's an old man telling stories around a campfire

You could write a whole novel about everything presented here, maybe with a few tweaks here and there, but still keep the original premise. Instead of "huehuehuenrlhuehuehuerobherehuehuehuegetarrestedhuehuehue", you would have branching pathways, little sideplots that go somewhere, details here and there, interesting characters that could fit in any genre, more intelligent players that can think of such situations, etc. That would make DarkRP, "story" wise, a whole lot more interesting and unique for each server. [editline]when[/editline] gameplay wise it's still 1/3 ass, 1/3 admin sits, and 1/3 useless addons tho.

You should just make a thread in general discussion labeled something like "Joe's recollection of Gmod RP" or "Old ass war veteran retelling stories thread" and tell us more.

Yet again I found these absolutely astonishing admins. And by that I mean shitty, ofc. So I planted a C4. My T pal is chilling around the whole time (an admin/mod btw, inside the same T room), going to a safe distance from the C4 at first. But when it reached 10sec, he literally goes right next to the C4 for no apparent reason. The C4 was literally on his screen right next to him, and I had already activated the water trap doors. Okay so I kill another T with C4, nothing too bad, BUT then the admin gives me a private message "revive me asshole", which is practically ghosting (communicating with the dead), to which I said "noob" and proceeded to revive him. Despite this, I got slayed for Disrspect (even when the "ghosting" admin called me asshole first) and the accidental T-kill, even though I revived him. Server name was Icemod-something, avoid if you ask me. [editline]18th June 2014[/editline] And then on another server(EagleGaming), I accidentally killed a T pal with C4 that also killed like 10 Innocents. No big fuzz about it or unnecessary slay, or crying about reviving (which the server didn't even have.) Gotta love reasonable servers who don't get all riled up over nothing.

There is a clear lack of real sandbox/build servers. There are too many of these fake sandbox servers. You join, they say it's a build server, but you can't build as you can't access most or all the tools. You have to "earn" them. Earn them how? By standing around for a few hours on a server? That's what you call earning something? So of course on these servers, all the new players leave instantly or they just start griefing. Because some of these "build" servers have mods to stop you from building, but nothing to stop you from griefing. Thank god for the blacklist. I'm currently working on getting all the shitty "build" servers on this list. Is there someone who has already done this recently and released the list? Would be cool to download it. Then we wouldn't have to waste our time with shit servers.
If you're complaining about restrictions in Sandbox, it's pretty obvious you've never tried to host your own, which if you haven't then I invite you to, without any sort of plugins. Hosting Sandbox can be an absolute pain in the ass, because gmod has a lot of assholes who only play to ruin the game for other people and on a gamemode like this, it's very easy to do so. All it takes is one person to come on and spam something or annoy players, which can lead to other people leaving or at worst, the server lagging or crashing entirely. When you load into Sandbox, instead of having an attitude of 'omg stupid admins restricting stuff!', you should think to yourself why they are there in the first place. That's personally what makes me mad because I've seen it so often in the gmod community. The players are never at fault and it's always ~ evil admins ~ who are the bad guys.
I made a prop of Unikitty from the LEGO Movie. So many little kids adding me, and requesting, 'please make an emmet and other character props!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' And then it was featured on VenturianTale. I really regret publishing that sometimes. Plus, it's poorly made with a terrible broken texture and it is way too oversized.

You're restricting the real player who wants to build in sandbox, not just the people who will grief. You have to spend hours without having all the building tools on a build server, when you could just hop onto one and play the whole game. I never said I wanted to spawn on a sandbox game with the ability to spam or kill people. All I wanted was to use building tools. No dynamite, turrets, or that kind of stuff.
