• Garry's Mod is dying?
The first thing I do after buying a game is to go into the options menu, setup my graphics option, and then check the key configuration. If I don't know what a command means (hmm, what's noclip?), then I try it out. I'm just saying with all the kids playing these days, this question gets asked a lot more often than a few years back.
You and I are not representative of the majority of people getting into Gmod for the first time. Most people, especially kids, are used to things 'just working' and don't think to open the options menu unless they're having a problem and are told the solution lives in there.
but the amount of people asking how to "fly" seriously scares me.
Only way to filter those is by either using a map that's not gm_flatgrass or construct (not effective but it does a good job) or (my favourite) installing a minimum hour limit. Start off with 100h minimum required to join and you already filter a big portion of kids. Yes, everyone was a beginner but still, no one needs people who are even too lazy to check a god damn frikkin options menu.
EDIT: - snip - tldr; just click "dumb".
Stop fight
I am really surprised no one has made a carbon copy of garrysmod but on a better engine. All of these physics sandbox games that I have seen are trying to do their own thing, but really its a formula that doesnt need to be changed a whole lot. Make it on a new engine with greater capabilities, have a set of objects you can spawn, have a set of ways you can constrain them, make it easy enough for other people to make their own constraints and tools. Then once you have that it would be a good idea to improve on things that mods on source cant improve on.

Without the basic HL2 items, there would be a higher barrier to entry for developers that don't also have the experience and patience for 3D modelling and/or converting existing models and textures for import.
What ever happened to space build?
What ever happened to space build?
Most of the people that play Gmod probably don't know it ever existed. I would put the link to the fixed version of Spacebuild 2 on github but I'll probably just get rated dumb again for doing something useful - so people can figure out where I've hosted it for themselves if they actually want to try it.
Kinda, - yes. Years ago the gmod worked way better, without servers being so laggy, crashy. All I see now is people that just spam everything from the dupe tab and fighting with 999 weapons downloaded from workshop because they can't have fun and build a thing.

The good sandbox server dont even have the gmod duplicator to spawn something from the workshop. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1446307 you can find a list with good sandbox servers (with a good building community) in that thread.

Sure, things like the default HL2 props are nice but most of the serious builds in garrys mod use sprops for a lot of things. It would be a great boon to modders as well if it was on a better engine, because it would be much, much easier to import their own assets into the game. I have delved into importing models into source before and its archaic as fuck
No more good DR servers, BlackOps and Sassilization is down, the popular servers have the worst coders I've ever seen.
the popular servers have the worst coders I've ever seen.
PixelTail's GMTower is made by terrible coders?
the popular servers have the worst coders I've ever seen.
I would say that the coder from Next Tier Gaming is pretty good

Your work is cool, but you came off as a dick the first time.

What should I google to find it?
I find that the good servers are generally the ones whose owners are developers, because they make original shit for their server and it works properly
metastruct is one of the best servers to date
Why haven't we gone back to the old legacy browser, or a fancy HTML version of it, if it's generally accepted that the new one is one of the worst parts of GM13?
I find that the good servers are generally the ones whose owners are developers, because they make original shit for their server and it works properly
Also if you're lucky enough to have a server with good mods/admins.
I've made a GitHub issue for genre sorting. https://github.com/Facepunch/garrysmod-requests/issues/459
No more good DR servers, BlackOps and Sassilization is down, the popular servers have the worst coders I've ever seen.
Sassilization's RTS Gamemode still exists and is running.
Sassilization's RTS Gamemode still exists and is running.
I loved that server so much. I think the best part was the casino that never got released.
What's killing Gmod? -Youtubers -Steam Workshop -Five Night's at Freddy's -Ponies -Kiddies Pretty much the workshop integration has made it very very easy for babus to upload their crappy stolen models and reskins and dupes so many dupes
If anything is killing Garry's Mod (and I know it's been stated before) is the lack of creativity that seems to be going on. Not too many people are learning to code nowadays and opt to use the same old addons. The main factor (again stated before) is the browser which makes new gamemodes/servers hard to find unless they have big communities backing them, so even if they have a lot of unique things they won't get the players.
Please. Give me back my Gmod 10.
Please. Give me back my Gmod 10.
I'd like the UI of 10 overlaid atop the mechanical bits of what we have now. There's been fucktons of mechanical improvements made to Gmod over the years and it'd be silly to throw them out, but the UI? Ehh. It's debatable if it's gotten any better or not.
I find that the good servers are generally the ones whose owners are developers, because they make original shit for their server and it works properly
i dev for my own server and i can completely agree with this. Anything i want for the server i can just spend a few hours making then just throw it on the server without having to pay $10 for some addon from scriptfodder. What is really killing the game is all the 8 year old kids who dont know how to build. the closest thing i have seen to someone actually building on my server is people slapping plates on a jeep or propsurfing a huge plate into the sky. And whenever people use wiremod they always use E2's they downloaded to fuck with people
