So i guess its up to Garry then to make gmod play nice with the server?

I suppose so, any real way to get him to look here and possibly help us out with our problem?
I suppose so, any real way to get him to look here and possibly help us out with our problem?
By force ;) just kidding.
I wonder why there are still dedicated servers up and running?
I guess that is the main question! What are they doing and what are we doing wrong?
I think those guys aren't trying to join our own servers as opposed to us wanting to join our own servers however we are met by this immensely aggravating error :(
I am getting the same error as well, no idea on how to fix it, I have had this problem on gmod9 and I wasn't concerned much so I didn't bother with it, I was just playing happily on a space build server then I crashed, I got back on gmod10 and I get this Engine Error the instant I click on the Connect button. No one else in my household is running gmod10 or STEAM. I haven't had a problem up until now. I am very disappointed in Valve, I am considering removing STEAM from the face of my hard drive. Becoming a waste on my computer now...
To bad gmod can't be its own game and runs on its own engine, but i guess that's what makes gmod fun. Can anybody talk to Garry?
I am trying steam support again, the error is with their TF2 servers too so i'm positive if they fix the tf2 one it would probably fix the gmod one too.
Maybe we could post this topic somewhere else?
Well I can host a server and join it all I have done is forward my ports.
I have two mates who are having the issue and both have linksys routers and I have a netgear. That is the only difference I can think of.
I have a linksys router too, maybe this is indeed our problem?
I would go out and buy another router however i'm really into the linksys ones...
Did you have your friends try forwarding the ports and seeing if it works?
I have a Actiontec router
Okay, I just messaged steam support again and no good came of it.
They just told me that they can't troubleshoot it.
Thus meaning that it is up to US to fix this stupid problem. >=[
Well.. if that's the problem..
Use OpenWRT! ;) I have a WRT 54G, but I'm not running the Linksys firmware, and I'm not having this problem.
OpenWRT says it is for linux, how do you run it without?

Sitecom WL-122 Router never had any problems before.

Without derailing the topic, you replace the Linksys firmware with OpenWRT, which is an embedded Linux distro. As a warning, you risk bricking your router.
Reinstall steam and use a Winsock Fix.

Sorry, do you know if winsock is XP only or does it have the ability to apply to vista as well?
Hamachi DOES work with source games. I've tried it. Sometimes it won't appear in the LAN list, but you can still use the connect command in the console.
That's wrong, I've used hamachi several times before I got my static IP with friends, and there have never been any problems with it (note: you need sv_lan 1 with hamachi)

You can try this steam://support/?Issues=Connection* maybe it can point of what the problem is for some of you
LoL, it says steams working, then it crashs 5 sec in.
Bumping until there is a fix.

As will I.
I have the same problem. When I try to connect to my own GMod Dedicated Server, it crashes with an Engine Error.
By the way FamousCra I think that you should contact Valve and not Steam. Steam is only a game download platform (also if it belongs to Valve).
As will I.
I will too.
Please don't let this thread die. I need to know how to fix this. :(

I asked if the people from steam could give me a way to contact whomever but I was told nothing could be done. If you get my a phone number i'd be willing to call them up, or possibly a support email so I don't risk letting my phone bill get too crazy.
I really think something needs to get done, I want to try the previous methods but I am terribly scared something MAY go wrong :(
Is there a file we can edit that will make gmod use different ports. cause using the advance settings on steam didn't work or is it possible that you can't have 2 source 2007 engines running at the same time?
I'm giving this thread one last chance. Please help us someone. Bump.
[ Shout of despair. ]
Bump.
I can tell what your problem is your running on vista and am not joking ether vista's networking setup is totally different to xp's or windows server or linx. Am sorry but to host a gmod server you need a different OS good look. I have just tried it on my vista machine and i got the same error will install it on my windows server 2003 in a bit to test if i was right i tested it on my xp machine and worked with no problem running through the same router different wireless adapter but that wont matter 2 much. Am about 100% certain that it is vista
What the hell, then why would it work before the update, i can understand if it did this before the big update. Oh well, i run a listen server now until i get another pc to host the server.
GREAT NEWS:
I can now join other servers when my server is running and i can join mine with out crashing but a get disconnected with the following message from the server console.
Client "Lone_wolf_S117" connected (192.168.1.65:27006).
Dropped Lone_wolf_S117 from server (Server uses different class tables)
I don't know exactly what i did that fixed it but the last few things i did was install all the SDK tools from steam (i.e. Source SDK, Source SDK Base, source SDK Base - orange box. I going to try some other things
