How long until the new robot overlord deems our existence unnecessary as well?
Going to have to disagree that the Workshop is better. Yes, the files were a lot more updated and most of which work to a better standard than the one's on garrysmod.org but I have found so much content for my server which couldn't be found on the Workshop! Plus most of the garrysmod.org content are little children posting videos of two ragdolls having sex. [I have found so many of those, please don't ask how..] At least garrysmod.org had ORIGINAL content, most of which just needed a little fixing..
Garrysmod.org, if you do not return to us just know we all have fond memories of you.. Good night, and fare thee well.
Workshop commenters are literally the worst thing ever.

Aside from Twitch chat users
Maybe we can try uploading the stuff we managed to download? I've got a good few gigs of models and maps so together we might be able to at least collect most of the useful stuff. If anyone has an ability to host a few gigs then it can work out.
Real shame. Even after it had been abandoned, I still used it to teach myself SWEP scripting. I learned a metric shit ton about GLua just by downloading and reverse coding whatever I could get my hands on. Hell, there was a ton of shit I was still planning on tearing apart and looking at like the old Radiation orb SENT, but it's all gone now.
WE MUST REBUILD IT
well gmod used amazon aws so all the content still exists
You sir, are correct.
You sir, are correct.
NO STOP. WE MUST REBUILD IT FROM NOTHING.
You sir, are correct.
So is anyone going to try and get it back?
Great, the one time I need to scavenge garrysmod.org to find some old addons and scripts and it's gone. Darn this kind of sucks. That website may have been a junkyard, but if you look enough, you'd find some interesting stuff.
:( so many nostalgiac addons there
So is anyone going to try and get it back?
A lot of us in this thread can and would try. Depending on how it was stored serverside, it shouldn't be too difficult to reorganize the content and make it indexable.
You sir, are correct.
Sweet. You should make the bucket public so we can browse all the content
"I felt a great disturbance in the forums, as if millions of files suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."
But seriously, can we agree to either set up a new website or upload what we have left onto something like dropbox?
I HAVE 19 GB OF GMOD SHIT ON MY HARDDRIVE THAT NOW HAS A PURPOSE!
MEGA?
I found a 2.3GB Torrent of gmod addons from 2010 however 0 seeders so i can't even connect to peers.
MEGA?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't megaupload the site that the FBI shut down?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't megaupload the site that the FBI shut down?
That was Megaupload but MEGA is the site that replaced it and is perfectly fine for file sharing
no backups huh?
Not hard to do though. I've deleted my entire iTunes library before, and once nearly formatted my hard-drive because the app meant to partition it was being a dick
Good riddance.
Good riddance.
Yes oh thank God all of that old, mostly usable and not-uploaded-to-workshop content is inaccessible everything is so much better now because of it
:rolleye:
Really though, why "good riddance"? There was nothing wrong with it still being up. It hosted tons of content that still worked in Gmod 13, mostly maps and model/ragdoll packs and maybe a handful of addons that weren't re-uploaded to workshop.
If people were whining because they were downloading addons off of there that are too old to work, that's their problem for being stupid enough not to read the big ol' banner at the top of the page.
Good riddance.
that's such a dumb thing to say now, what's really the point in that?
Once my finals are done, I'll try to upload what I have to mega.
Edit: I am uploading the files now. It might take all day.
All the content gone. wow
Update:
I have about 10% of the files uploaded so far on Mega.
https://mega.co.nz/#fm/0VkwAbQY
It took me 24 hours just to get the first 100 files up.
It's THAT long.
Damn there's some stuff that I can't find on the workshop, when will we get access to the stuff?
Damn there's some stuff that I can't find on the workshop, when will we get access to the stuff?
Unless, Garry has a secret backup plan that somehow holds Terabytes of information, I doubt we will ever see 100% of the files from the site.
I am in the process of uploading all of my old files to Mega now if it helps.
-snip-
The worst part is , i STILL instinctively go to gmod.org when i think i need something . AGhhhhh , theres gotta be a place where we can all dump all the content we all individually have ? Like so we can all dump it on there thats not just a link to the content , kinda of like a repository of stuff we managed to save from gmod.org ? Like a usermade garrysmod.org .would be easier to find then just going through the forum looking for links
