The much bigger picture on the recent events regarding backdoors - Garry's Mod

I'm the one who found the backdoor in Prometheus and started abusing the backdoor, are you trying to say that I was hired by HeX to had found it, take advantage of it and start attack huge servers? I think that's a little bit far fetched and backdoors are found in addons all the time, workshop or not. Marcuz's server was compromised and a backdoor was placed in every update straight in the root directory, if HeX was going to go this far, he would've atleast tried to hide it better, it had different permissions than every other file so it stood out, it had no authentication and was called "buystats.php" which is really fishy, which is how I found it. If HeX were to have done that, I'm sure he would've hid it way better, like inside one of the includes with authentication where only he can access it. I am not defending HeX and I definitely do not approve of a lot of his actions, but this is a little bit far fetched, don't you think? tl;dr hex did not hire me so this is false.

People like this makes you wonder how real the PC master race truly is. Never had any bullshit on consoles. It's a con of PC gaming; you join a server of a crazed kid who has the ability to mess your PC up. It's not acceptable and it shouldn't even be possible but at the same time it has to be possible for tbe server to upload their content to the PC's of other players. All I can say is; be mindful of which servers you join and make sure they're at least VAC secured.

theres nothing wrong with backdoors or ratting/hacking people trust me i do it all the time to my friends just in case they turn my back on me

Here's what I meant; Most servers have some content that has to be downloaded to the client upon joining if you want everything to work flawlessly. You can't simply filter out malicious content, for that Garry's Mod would need it's own virus scanner. Drug-mod had a backdoor apparently. No-one expected it to have one because it was extremely popular among the DarkRP community, and thus thought to be good/safe because everyone used it. Incidents like these will always happen from now on because people now know it's possible. The only way to stop this is by finding the source of the problem (the coder) and simply permanently banning them. If you attempted to do shit like this on a console you were fucked, but on PC? On Steam? Where's our protection against these players? How are we a 100% sure that hackers are being looked into? I'm sure HeX is still there, along with the same person who is responsible for the backdoor in drug-mod. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised anymore if more add-ons had backdoors. I know, modding is necessary for the survival of Garry's Mod. But to what level? Because people's fun and perhaps even their privacy are being ruined because of it. I won't be joining servers anymore unless I know the owner as a friend simply because I don't want someone who's that sad to act like a tough guy (really, I even can't begin to explain how stupid and childish it is) on Garry's Mod to browse through my PC or ruin my spare time.

Regarding the 'virus scanner' - I made something a while back, that detects various calls by detouring some of the functions that backdoor creators use for their backdoor.
