If anything, the only tools that should be added are ones that were removed from GM13 (RT, Leafblower, etc)
What's the point of Leafblower anyway? A friend of mine has it on his server but I could never find a good use for it.
If anything, the only tools that should be added are ones that were removed from GM13 (RT, Leafblower, etc)
Whatever happened to the turret tool? I remember garry removed it because he wanted to implement it in a different way involving the new right-click context menu or something, but nothing ever came of that.
If you plan on adding new default tools, consider this one: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=737640184 Scion did some great work there.
It's a cool tool but honestly that tool is way too complicated for the stock game where pretty much every tool is really simple to use and with minimal menu fuckery.
that tool is way too complicated for the stock game where pretty much every tool is really simple to use
Elastics and Pulleys beg to differ. Anyone with even basic level of reading abilities and comprehension could use tools like the suggested one though.

Since we are working on improving the sandbox tools I think it would be nice to improve the wiki page about creating tools as well. https://wiki.garrysmod.com/page/Tool_Information_Display is missing some info, and https://wiki.garrysmod.com/page/Using_Tools has a ton of broken links.
just stop whats next, wiremod becomes vanilla?
It already is, sort of. The only difference is that people have to download it if they wish to see its models and use it in singleplayer. Regardless if someone is a builder or not, Wiremod has become essential in most contraption types nowadays.
The default tools are what they are because they're part of the source engine, almost every tool is a basic function with tons of uses A couple of simple and really useful things I'd love to see: adding a weight slider to the Physical Properties tool, and holding shift for angle snapping on easy weld like the physgun has
Is there any reason to make the Color palettes tool specific? Ability to reset the Color palettes in tool settings? Ability for multiple palettes that you can switch between? Where would those buttons be placed? [editline]9th August 2016[/editline]
Where's leaf blower?
Omg yes

That isn't already implemented with the color tool?
Could just let it save a setting profile like with the other tools. The Color panel palette is currently shared across ALL tools and color changes are saving and cannot be easily reset.

That way you could create custom color schemes for future use.

All the model selectors will be on the bottom of each tool context menu and be resized vertically automatically so you don't have scrollbars inside scrollbars. Obvious advantage is that you can do this: [t]http://i.imgur.com/uQliEvu.png[/t]
If you could set the default sound to none on the thrusters, that'd be really helpful.
i've replaced all the thruster sound files with an empty .wav file
i've replaced all the thruster sound files with an empty .wav file
Is there a way to do the same for all vanilla HL2 sound effects? I like playing GMod with sound sometimes but the toolgun, HL2 weapon and UI sounds just drive me nuts for some reason.
Is there a way to do the same for all vanilla HL2 sound effects? I like playing GMod with sound sometimes but the toolgun, HL2 weapon and UI sounds just drive me nuts for some reason.
Find the sound names one-by-one and replace them.
If we are talking about new tools and such, I'd like to say that it might be a good idea to look at the actual building community for ideas. One thing I'd love to see implemented is Precision Alignment and Advance Duplicator 2. AD2 should be added and the current workshop system removed completely. It only serves as a great crashing tool, and doesn't really work that well for actually saving contraptions and designs. Not to mention that being able to have a vanilla AD2 tool would also mean that saved files would be on a cloud network, and would overall just be fucking awesome as backups for when computer harddrives fail and all. Also does anyone remember the discussion of a virtual keyboard system similar to Wiremod's Pod Controller? The idea which was being discussed in the GMod 13 beta, was that we'd have a system similar to Pod Controller, in that players would put thrusters and such onto their contraptions, and then could click E on the thrusters and link them to specific seats with keys on their keyboard. When the vehicle is entered, the player would be able to use the keys the assigned without them effecting their default movement keys within Garry's Mod. Seriously, why a virtual keyboard/pod controller has not been added in vanilla is the greatest bit of confusion for me. Oh yeah, and someone made a small suggestion to me while we were playing an RP server... Whatever happened to sound emitters? Seriously, having sound emitters where you could upload custom sounds would be godsent for having radios and such in your houses.
No new tools. [editline]13th August 2016[/editline] I guess this thread is as good as done as noone seems to care anyway.
Most of us do care, it's just the "no new tools" thing sorta kills a lot of the motivation people have for this type of thing. Could we possibly get a competition of sorts in the future where the community can submit tools/prop packs, which they think should be vanilla, as to broaden the horizons of the vanilla experience?
*cough* sprops *cough*
not happening
not happening
I CAN DREAM
Most of us do care, it's just the "no new tools" thing sorta kills a lot of the motivation people have for this type of thing
I don't see why... addons and the workshop exist for a reason. The only tool that should be added is advanced ball-socket, since it's actually a valve thing.
I just want Advanced Duplicator 2 to replace the current duplicator. A man can dream right?
I just want Advanced Duplicator 2 to replace the current duplicator. A man can dream right?
But it does replace the current duplicator... if you download it. If you want to use it, use it. What difference does making it a default tool make?
But it does replace the current duplicator... if you download it. If you want to use it, use it. What difference does making it a default tool make?
If we remove the current vanilla duplicator, it will replace that. And before you take a breath to say anything against this: Give us one good and understandable reason as to why we should not remove the current duplicator. Take a look at the dupes section to ease your decision.

The lack of quality dupes on the workshop is irrelevant and has nothing to do with the tool. Frankly I'm baffled as to why you would want this anyway - suppose there is an update which has unforeseen bugs that break shit... right now it would be fixed by the wire team within a day at most, if it was vanilla you would have to wait forever. It just sounds like you're too lazy to go find addons yourself, and you hate newer or less experienced players, which isn't a good enough reason to add or remove something.
